*         New Student Identification Card:   The purpose of this message is to inform you and your student of our new student identification card monitoring system called CodeREADr. CodeREADr is utilized by all Visalia Unified School District High Schools and have been successful in monitoring travel, behavior, attendance, and safety during the lunch time period.

On August 11th, 2017 your student will be receiving a letter in their 6th period regarding codeREADr. Please check the El Diamante Webpage as a digital copy of the letter will be provided. The tentative start date will be August 14th, 2017 for 12th grade and August 21st, 2017 for grades 10 through 12.

*         Dress Code: As the weather begins to warm up, please be advised that dress code will be strictly enforced.  Please refer to the student conduct code handbook or the dress code policy posted in the attendance office.



*         Locker Rooms: No loitering in or near the locker rooms before school, during class time and after school.



*         Reminder students: The upstairs 300's are off limits during lunch time.



*         Personal Items:  As a reminder students are responsible for any personal items that are brought to school and assume all liability for any of those items if they become damaged, lost or stolen.

*         Attention Skateboard Riders: Please lock your skateboards inside of the skateboard racks that are located in the front of the school. You will need to bring your own lock. Skateboards are NOT allowed on campus. Reminder: Please remove your bike and skateboard locks off the racks when you leave.  There is no saving lockers or racks for the next day.



*         Miner Emporium:  Come by the Miner Emporium (student store) and check out the new gear. We have beanies, bucket hats, hoodies and t-shirt with our new logo. Get them while supplies last.

*        Beanies:  The beanie period has officially ended as of March 1st. Beanies were allowed during the colder months from November 1st to March 1st.





STUDENT NOTES




*         CSF Registration:   Will be next week August 21-27. We will take applications in the gym every day during lunch. Please have the application filled out and last semester's report card attached. Applications are available in the library, room 605, or on the EDHS website under Student Services.



*         College Night:  The annual College Night will be at the Visalia Convention Center on Tuesday, September 12, from 5:30 to 8:00 PM. This event is for any student and their parents, who will be, or currently are, working towards attending a college or university. Information pertaining to entrance requirements and financial aid will be presented. Representatives from local universities, colleges, and other schools will be on hand to provide information and answer questions.  We hope to see you there.


*         Tulare County Youth Council:  TCYC is actively recruiting for the 2017-2018 Tulare County Office of Educations-Tulare County Youth Council.  If you are a 9,10,11,12 grade student interested in being a part of the youth council please complete attached application and return by September 8, 2017.  We are looking to recruit new students to represent your school this upcoming school year. We meet twice a month and we do some great things in the community.  The Youth Council will provide an opportunity for young people in our community to have a voice in the services that the Tulare County Office of Education provides, as well as contribute to local policy issues in areas of concern for the youth of our county.   Participants will have opportunities to develop relationships and skills that will help build their competencies and better prepare them for their future endeavors.


*         Rotary Youth Exchange Scholarship Study Abroad: An informational meeting for parents and students interested in spending a year of their high school studying overseas.  Each year Rotary handles over 8,000 students in this opportunity of a lifetime.  Join us on September 3rd, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at San Joaquin Valley College, 8344 W. *         ID CARD SCANNING AT LUNCH:  Beginning this Friday, August 18th, all students will be required to have their current, 2017-18 ID cards scanned in order to leave and re-enter campus at lunch time, no exceptions.  You will receive your new ID card when you have your picture taken on Wednesday or Thursday this week.  It is your responsibility to have your picture taken and to get your new ID card.  If you miss taking your pictures with your entire class (PE or Junior English), you will need to report to the gym before school or at lunch on Wednesday or Thursday this week.  That will be the only opportunity to take pictures and get your ID.  All students, grades 9 - 12 are required to have a current student ID - there is no charge to take pictures for ID's - you are not required to purchase a picture packet.


*         Attention Class of 2021:  If you are interested in running for an officer position, election packets are available in Student Services and room 601.  The deadline is August 21.  Questions see Ms. McKee in room 601 or Mr. Sheaff in room 501.


*          XL program is a great resource for students and parents. We offer Free Tutoring, Enrichment courses, Credit Recovery classes, SAT Prep, and Intervention (re-teaching of class lessons, class work and Benchmark). This Semester we are offering:  -A.M. Tutorials -P.M. Tutorials ( Student Tutors are available for private tutoring upon request) -Ag-Science -Pre-Season Athletics -Animation and Storyboarding -Special Effects -Urban Arts (Hip-Hop) -XL Resource Center
FREE SNACKS AVAILABLE AFTER SCHOOL FOR ALL STUDENTS IN CAFETERIA. SERVING TIMES ARE FROM 3:16-3:45pm & 5:00-6:00pm.



*         XL Program:  We are looking for Juniors/Seniors who are interested to work as a Tutor for the XL program. Applications can be picked up in Lab 62 and Interviews are August 22 & 23.



*         Visitor Parking:  This is a reminder to not park in designated visitor parking as this is reserved for individuals visiting our campus. Thank you for your help in the matter!

Loitering Policy

Specific areas where student loitering is prohibited:

1.       Parking lots, Restrooms (Students are not allowed to go to their vehicle and retrieve items during class time)

2.       Playing fields outside the gated area (unless under adult supervision)

3.       Bicycle/skateboard racks

4.       Front of the school on Whitendale Avenue

5.       Bus drop off lane on Crenshaw Street

6.       On school grounds after school hours unless in a supervised activity or classroom

*         CLUB RUSH DAY: Will be on Wednesday, August 30.  Come and see what clubs El Diamante has to offer.  Sign up to be a member of the Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior or Senior class.  This is a great way to get INVOLVED on campus.  BE the AMAZING MINER you were meant to be.

*         Back-to-School-Night: Will be on Monday, August 21 beginning at 6:00 PM.  El Diamante cordially invites parents, students, and members of the community to our Back to School Night. This is an excellent opportunity to sign up for Miner Foundation, PTSA, ELAC committees and the XL program at the information tables set up in front of the library.  This event will provide an opportunity to visit your student's classes and receive information on academic expectations and requirements.  New parents will have the opportunity to attend a parent portal workshop at 5:30 PM in the Library.  Administrators will be on hand to answer questions. Jostens will be available on campus for class ring and custom letter jacket orders.
