*         El Diamante High School Graduation is Thursday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mineral King Bowl.  There will be 'metal wanding' at graduation again this year.  Gates will open at 6:00pm.  Please: No balloons or noisemakers allowed at graduation to ensure all parents will be able to see and hear their student's name clearly.  Enjoy the ceremony.



*         Lockers:  Please have all items removed from your locker on or before the last day of school Friday, June 2nd.  Any items left behind WILL BE DISCARDED.  Locker rooms will be closed over the summer for maintenance



*         Dress Code: As the weather begins to warm up, please be advised that dress code will be strictly enforced.  Please refer to the student conduct code handbook or the dress code policy posted in the attendance office.



*         Locker Rooms: No loitering in or near the locker rooms before school, during class time and after school.



*         Reminder students: The upstairs 300's are off limits during lunch time.



*         Personal Items:  As a reminder students are responsible for any personal items that are brought to school and assume all liability for any of those items if they become damaged, lost or stolen.

*         Attention Skateboard Riders: Please lock your skateboards inside of the skateboard racks that are located in the front of the school. You will need to bring your own lock. Skateboards are NOT allowed on campus. Reminder: Please remove your bike and skateboard locks off the racks when you leave.  There is no saving lockers or racks for the next day.



*         Miner Emporium:  Come by the Miner Emporium (student store) and check out the new gear. We have beanies, bucket hats, hoodies and t-shirt with our new logo. Get them while supplies last.

*        Beanies:  The beanie period has officially ended as of March 1st. Beanies were allowed during the colder months from November 1st to March 1st.





STUDENT NOTES



*         FINALS:  Finals for all underclassmen will begin on Wednesday, May 31 - Periods 1 & 3; Thursday, June 1 - Periods 2 & 4; and Friday, June 2 - Periods 5 & 6.  Finals end at 12:35 each of these days.  Buses will leave at 12:40 each day.


*         AP CLASSES 2017-2018: Students who have signed up for AP classes next year, pick up your summer assignment from the AP teacher and check out your book from the library if needed.

*         Prom Pictures:  Prom pictures are in; please pick them up in the Finance Office before school, at lunchtime or after school.


*         Library Books: The library is accepting returns on library books, English novels and textbooks at this time. Please return any EDHS book you no longer need, any EDHS book under your bed, any EDHS book in your closet or in your car can be scanned at the library for check in. THE ABSOLUTE LAST DAY FOR BOOK RETURN IS JUNE 2nd.



*         AP Euro:  Summer assignments can be picked up in my classroom (room 614) beginning Monday 5/22 for all students enrolled in AP Euro next year



*         AP Human Geography:   TAKING AP HUMAN GEOGRAPHY NEXT YEAR! Please come by Mr. Rice's room (618) to pick up you summer assignment!



*         AP Statistics:  Please pick up your Summer Assignment for AP Statistics from the Student Services office. See Mr. Harding in room 301 if you need to check out a graphing calculator.



*         AP Psychology:  Summer Assignment Pick-up this Friday at 9:30am in the library.  Bring your ID card or your schedule.

*         Summer School:  The list of students who got in to summer school will be posted on the window in the Student Services Office, it is sorted by the grade you will be in next year.  If you did not get in to summer school, there is a notice in the Student Services Office on how to do the lottery the first day of summer school.



*         BLOOD DRIVE:  The need is constant.  The gratification is instant.  It is time for giving blood at our blood drive on Thursday, May 25th.  If you are 16 years old, 110 pounds, in good health and have parent permission you can donate.  Student sign-ups are in the student services office.  Staff and parents are welcome to donate as well.  Breakfast will be provided before school for those donating in 361- and 363.



*         XL AM & PM Tutorials:  Are back in the library. Stop by in the mornings (Monday, 7 AM to 9 AM. Tuesday - Friday, 7 AM to 8 AM) or after school (Monday through Friday 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM) to receive academic help from one of our student tutors.



*         XL Jiu Jitsu:  The XL Program is now offering a new class JIU JITSU. Jiu Jitsu is Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM in the Wrestling Room.



*         Visalia College Fair:  Will be on Monday, June 12, 2017 at the Visalia Convention Center.  Colleges from across the state and country will be in attendance to discuss how to make students' college aspirations a reality.  Please see attached flyer for more information and where to register.



*         Visitor Parking:  This is a reminder to not park in designated visitor parking as this is reserved for individuals visiting our campus. Thank you for your help in the matter!

*         XL Culinary Art with Mrs. Lugo.  Starts today and will run every Monday from 4:00-6:00 pm in room 504.  Students will receive a food handler's certification and learn to cook amazing food.

Loitering Policy

Specific areas where student loitering is prohibited:

1.       Parking lots, Restrooms (Students are not allowed to go to their vehicle and retrieve items during class time)

2.       Playing fields outside the gated area (unless under adult supervision)

3.       Bicycle/skateboard racks

4.       Front of the school on Whitendale Avenue

5.       Bus drop off lane on Crenshaw Street

6.       On school grounds after school hours unless in a supervised activity or classroom




SENIOR NOTES






*         Attention Seniors!  Commencement Dress Code:  Staff will check for appropriate attire before being allowed into the Redwood Gym graduation night.  Men:  collared shirt, tie, dress shoes, dress slacks.  Women:  dress or dressy pants, dress shoes.  No flip flops, sandals, Birkenstocks, tennis shoes, shorts, sunglasses, cameras or other distractive accessories.  No alterations to cap and gown are allowed!  This will be strictly enforced!  We will all wear our caps and gowns as they come out of the box to preserve the dignity of the event.



*         Seniors: Reminder that graduation practice is Thursday, June 1 at 8 a.m. in the Mineral King Stadium.  Please bring a pen or pencil.  Practice is mandatory.  Don't be late!   Please remember, if you are planning on walking you must attend practice.  Students not at the practice will not be allowed to participate in the event.  You must also have all student fines and obligations taken care of to participate in the Commencement ceremony. No alterations to caps and gowns are allowed.  Please pay close attention to the parking restrictions around the Bowl when attending graduation practice and the ceremony.  Violators presenting safety hazards and not adhering to the parking restrictions could be cited and/or towed.   *If you have any questions see Mrs. Naylor at 735-3504.

*         SCHOLARSHIPS:  There are scholarships still available!   Please check the attached Scholarship Information Sheet for the most current posts of scholarships.



*         FINAL Transcript:  If you would like to request an official transcript to be sent to a College or University after graduation, please fill out a transcript request form in the student services office and give it to Mrs. Davis.  Transcripts will only be mailed out if you provide an address.  ~Thank you



*         STEM Majors:  COS is offering a program for current high school seniors that are planning to attend COS in the Summer/Fall as a STEM major.  For qualified candidates, the realm program will offer guaranteed placement in critical math and science courses as well as structured support and tutoring.  Please see the attached flyer for more information on eligibility and how to apply for the program.



*         Seniors: All textbooks, novels and library books should be returned to the library before graduation. To practice or walk in graduation you have to be clear of all books and fines in the library. Please stop by and verify what items are outstanding on your account ASAP.

CLUB NOTES






*         ASL club meets every other Wednesday in room 365 during lunch.

*         Christian Club will meet every Monday at lunch in room 354.

*         Key Club meets in room 604 each week on Wednesdays. Grab your lunch and join us to find out about service opportunities for our school and community.

*         Fashion Club members the XL program Quilt class is now open on Fridays. Starting this semester the class will be on Mondays and Fridays. Come join us create quilts for the Valley Children Hospital. Everyone is welcome to help us!

*         Tennis:  SOCK TAN PRIDE!! All interested in coming out for tennis next year see Coach Harding this week in room 301 for information about summer tennis.

*         Miner Foundation:  Is now looking to fill positions for the 2017-2018 school year.  We are currently seeking positions for director (voting member of the Foundation) and Treasurer these positions would typically be a two year term.  If you are interested in any other position we would be happy to accept your nomination.  Please contact Sandi Cahill for more information at scahill at visalia.k12.ca.us.
