*         Lunch Campus Exit:  Students will have 10 minutes to exit campus for lunch. This is being done to ensure that there is adequate time for you to return and not be tardy to class. Students will not be allowed to exit through the attendance office without administrative approval or parent pick up. Should a student be tardy, they will be assigned a lunch detention.


*         Cell Phones:  This is a reminder regarding cell phones, students who possess cell phones on campus must abide by the rules governing their use as outlined in the Student Conduct Code.  Misuse of cell phones could lead to confiscation and/or banning the use of such items. Students who possess these items at school are entirely at their own risk. The school or district is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged devices (BP 5131 b). Cell phones are to be turned off during class time and at any other time as directed by a district employee. If student refuses to give cell phone to teacher or district employee, this will be considered defiance and will lead to disciplinary actions.



*         Picture Retakes:  All students are required to take their picture for ID cards.  If you missed picture day, please sign-up in Student Services to have your picture taken on Tuesday, September 26th.  Students, who want to retake their pictures, bring your original picture packet and return it to the photographer on retake day.  Everyone must sign up for a time slot in Student Services.



*         Visitor Parking:  This is a reminder to not park in designated visitor parking as this is reserved for individuals visiting our campus. Thank you for your help in the matter!



*         Locker Rooms: No loitering in or near the locker rooms before school, during class time and after school.



*         Personal Items:  As a reminder students are responsible for any personal items that are brought to school and assume all liability for any of those items if they become damaged, lost or stolen.

*         Attention Skateboard Riders: Please lock your skateboards inside of the skateboard racks that are located in the front of the school. You will need to bring your own lock. Skateboards are NOT allowed on campus. Reminder: Please remove your bike and skateboard locks off the racks when you leave.  There is no saving lockers or racks for the next day.



*         Miner Emporium:  Come by the Miner Emporium (student store) and check out the new gear. We have beanies, bucket hats, hoodies and t-shirt with our new logo. Get them while supplies last.

*         Beanies:  Beanies are not to be worn on campus with the exception of the colder months; beanies are allowed from November 1st to March 1st only.



*         The Marines will be on campus on Mondays in the quad area, the Army will be on campus on Tuesdays in front of the Career Center, the Navy will be on campus on Wednesdays in front of the Career Center, and the National Guard will in front of the Career Center to answer any questions you may have.



*         Loitering Policy

Specific areas where student loitering is prohibited:

1.       Parking lots, Restrooms (Students are not allowed to go to their vehicle and retrieve items during class time)

2.       Playing fields outside the gated area (unless under adult supervision)

3.       Bicycle/skateboard racks

4.       Front of the school on Whitendale Avenue

5.       Bus drop off lane on Crenshaw Street

6.       On school grounds after school hours unless in a supervised activity or classroom







STUDENT NOTES






*         Rotary Scholarship Volunteers Needed:  The Rotary Scholarship is having their annual event on September 23rd and are looking for volunteers to help set up that morning from 9:00am-12:00pm.  If you are interested in volunteering, please come to Student Services to sign-up with Mrs. Rodarte.  You will receive a letter recognizing your volunteer hours from the Rotary.

*         Academy Night: Are you interested in pursuing a college education at a US Service Academy (Air Force Academy, Merchant Marine Academy, Military Academy-West Point, Naval Academy, and ROTC)?  If yes, Congressman Devin Nunes will be hosting an Academy Night on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, from 6:30-7:30pm, at the Clovis Unified School District Professional Development Building in Clovis, CA.   This is an opportunity for you and your parents to learn more about the nomination and appointment process. Students and Parents must RSVP before October 13th.  Please see Mrs. Rodarte in Student Services for an RSVP form.



*         ProYouth XL/SEED:  Students Empowered by Exposure to Diversity - would like to extend an invitation to all our students interested in going to the Maya Cinemas at Fresno on September 26th, (Transportation and movie concession is provided by the school district and ProYouth.) We are watching "Dolores" a Documentary based in Dolores Huerta who is among the most important, yet least known, activists in American history. An equal partner in co-founding the first Farm Workers Unions with Cesar Chavez, her enormous contributions have gone largely unrecognized. Dolores tirelessly led the fight for racial and labor justice alongside Chavez. Becoming one of the most defiant feminists of the twentieth century and she continues the fight to this day, at age 87."  - Go to your XL office to get more information regarding the fieldtrip and to pick up a permission slip.  It is first-come, first-served, reserve your spot!  Pick up a participating permit after school at the XL office.


*         The PSAT* will be on October 11, 2017
*PSAT Registration Information: Beginning Monday, August 28th purchase test from Mrs. Pena in the Finance Office or online through the EDHS Web store no later than 10/4/17.
Tests are sold on a first-come, first-served basis and may sell out. The cost is $16.



*          XL Program: Is a great resource for students and parents. We offer Free Tutoring, Enrichment courses, Credit Recovery classes, SAT Prep, and Intervention (re-teaching of class lessons, class work and Benchmark). This Semester we are offering:  -A.M. Tutorials -P.M. Tutorials ( Student Tutors are available for private tutoring upon request) -Ag-Science -Pre-Season Athletics -Animation and Storyboarding -Special Effects -Urban Arts (Hip-Hop) -XL Resource Center.  FREE SNACKS ARE AVAILABLE AFTER SCHOOL FOR ALL STUDENTS IN CAFETERIA. SERVING TIMES ARE FROM 3:16-3:45pm & 5:00-6:00pm.





*         ASVAB Prep Workshop: All Juniors and Seniors - Jasmine Reed, our XL College and Career Ambassador, will be having an ASVAB Prep Workshop in the Library September 19th from 3:30-5:30. For more information please go to Lab 62 (XL Office) and ask for Jasmine Reed for more information and to sign up.



*         ASVAB Test:  Juniors, and Seniors: The ASVAB Test will be given here on campus Wednesday, October 25th in the library at 8:30am. If you would like to participate please sign-up in the Student Services office.



*         Attention Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors:  Picture retakes or make-ups will take place on Tuesday, September 26th beginning at 7:30 AM - 10:00 AM in the EDHS Gym.  If you were absent during picture day and are going to make-up picture day, please pick up a picture order form in the Student Services Office and sign up for a time slot to have your picture taken. If you are retaking your pictures, you must also sign up for a time slot to have your picture taken and bring your original picture packet with you to exchange.

SENIOR NOTES






*         ATTENTION SENIORS WHO HAVE NOT TAKEN THEIR PICTURE FOR THE YEARBOOK:  There will be a LAST CHANCE opportunity to take your senior picture for the yearbook on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 in the Career Center.  Please sign-up in the Student Services Office for a time slot to have your picture taken.



*         Attention Seniors: El Diamante automatically uploads your GPA to the Cal Grant system electronically. This informs your colleges of your eligibility and qualification for certain grants and monies without you having to complete further forms for the Cal Grant. You do have the option to opt out of sending your GPA to colleges by coming into the student services office by September 28, fill out the OPT OUT form and have parents sign for approval. See your Learning Director if you have any questions.



*         AES Scholarship Deadline Is Approaching:  The deadline for the 12th annual AES Scholarship is October 6, 2017.  Visit our website at http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm.



*         COS Informational Meeting:  ATTENTION ALL SENIORS who are planning on attending the College of the Sequoias in the fall. There is a COS Senior Informational Meeting on Thursday, September 28 during homeroom in the Gym. If interested in attending this informational session, please sign-up in the Student Services Office with Mrs. Rodarte.



*         Senior Panoramic Picture:  Attention all Seniors; It's almost time for the senior panoramic picture.  Mark your calendars for Wednesday, October 18, 2017.  Seniors should report to your homeroom class, and then go to the gym for the picture.  No props, sign hand gestures, etc.  Please be careful not to block anyone's face from the pictures.  You are expected to dress appropriately (in dress code).  Anyone who is inappropriately dressed will not be allowed in the picture


*         Attention Seniors:  There will be a UC Application Workshop with UC Merced on Monday, September 25th in the Library.  Please sign up in the Student Services office.  Space is limited.


*         College Application Workshops: Seniors and parents!  See the attached list of College Application Workshops as well as other helpful workshops and informational meetings that will be held at El Diamante and the District Office throughout the year.  We will advertise events at El Diamante individually as they come up.


*         Senior ASB ID Cards:  Are available to pick up in Student Services Office before school, at lunch or after school.  You must bring your ID card to switch for ASB card.


*         Attention Class of 2018: While working on college applications this year, we recommend looking into the Wendy's High School Heisman Scholarship. They give out 100 scholarships to students ranging from $1,000 - $10,000. Application deadline is October 2.  Visit WendysHeisman.com to learn more.



*         CASH FOR COLLEGE F.A.F.S.A. NIGHT: SENIORS ONLY - Thursday, October 19th

5:00pm-8:00pm, EDHS Library. You must sign-up in the Student Services Office beginning October 2 to hold your place for a session at this event.  Last day to sign up is October 13!  Please see attached FAFSA & Dream Act Application Workshop 2018-2019 Checklist.
