·         Miner Emporium:  Come by the Miner Emporium (student store) and check out the new gear. We have beanies, bucket hats, hoodies and t-shirts with our new logo. Get them while supplies last.

·         The Marines will be on campus on Mondays in the quad area, the Army will be on campus on Tuesdays in front of the Career Center, the Navy will be on campus on Wednesdays in front of the Career Center, and the National Guard will be on campus on Thursdays in the quad area, to answer any questions you may have.

STUDENT NOTES

New Announcements:

·         Congrats to Javi Cardenas for placing first place at the Dos Palos Wrestling Invitational last weekend and Tanner Ragan for placing 2nd.

·         Josten's will be on campus at lunch this Friday, 12/7/18 in front of the library to deliver class ring orders.  They will also be available to take graduation product orders and answer any questions you may have.

Old Announcements:

·         Attention Miners, for the month of December our focus is on Kindness and helping others. There are numerous victims affected by the Camp Fire in Northern California. This month's homeroom competition will focus on supporting those victims. Drop your coins in the donation box in your homeroom classroom. 100% of the proceeds will go towards buying gift cards to aid the victims in need of food and clothing. The competition will run from December 4th-6th. The homeroom class with the most donated will earn a pizza party on Friday December 7th.

·         Winter Formal will be held on Saturday, December 8th from 8 - 11 PM in the El Diamante High School Gym.  Tickets will go on sale beginning Monday, December 3 in the Finance Office before school, during lunch or after school for $20 per single ticket w/ASB, $30 per single ticket w/o ASB, $50 per single ticket at the door. Tickets will be on sale through lunch on Friday, December 7.  If you do not purchase your tickets by the end of lunch on Friday, you will have to purchase tickets at the door for the increased price.  If your date to the dance is NOT a VUSD student you must have an approved guest pass in order for your guest to attend the dance.  Guest passes may be picked up in the Student Services Office and must be turned back in to Mrs. Vang no later than Wednesday, December 5 by 3:30 pm in order to get it approved (NO LATE GUEST PASSES WILL BE APPROVED!).  Remember that you must be clear of all fines in order to be eligible to attend.  In addition, you must present a current valid school I.D. at the door to be admitted to the dance!  No exceptions!  Appropriate dancing and behavior is expected!  Dress Code will be strictly enforced.

·         All those interested in trying out for the boys golf team this season, please come to an informational meeting on Thursday, Dec. 13 at lunch in room 368. All new and former players need to attend.

·         The Interact Club is helping the Tulare County Library by collecting non-perishable food and personal hygiene items to donate to FoodLink and Visalia Rescue Mission in order to help out those in need this Holiday Season. If you would like to participate, please bring things like canned goods and travel soaps or toothpaste to Mr. Borquez in Room 308 before Friday December, 14.

·         Attention: Football Pictures are in and can be picked up during lunch in the football office.

·         Anyone interested in Boys Tennis see Coach Harding in room 301 about preseason practices and tryouts.

·         California Lions Clubs are again sponsoring a Student Speaker Contest in February with cash awards and scholarships of up to $10,000. It is open to all students in grades 9-12. The topic is "FREEDOM OF THE PRESS, WHAT DOES IT MEAN? This is a wonderful public speaking opportunity to earn money toward higher education by presenting a 10 minute speech at one of the Lions Clubs in Visalia. Amounts of awards begin at $100 and increase through each of the 6 levels of competition. If you are interested or would like to know more, see Ms. Reynolds in Student Services who has more information and interest letters that need to be returned before January 17 in order for you to be contacted by a Visalia Lions Club member.  This is a wonderful and exciting opportunity given throughout the state of California. We encourage all students to consider participating in this annual event as they move forward with their education.

·         Attention Students: Headgear is not allowed. This includes hats, caps, bandanas, sweatbands, hairnets, head bands, do-rags, and beanies. This dress code will be enforced and you will be asked to remove with possible confiscation and parent pick up.

·         Students if you need to request a DMV Pink Slip, please go to Mrs. Springer's room 318 with your transcript. You can put in a request to get your Pink Slip before school, during homeroom, and during lunch. Please allow 2 school days for processing before picking it up. We will no longer issue Pink Slips in the Student Services office.

SENIOR NOTES

·         Seniors: A representative from Fresno Pacific University will be here for a visit this Thursday, December 6th. If you are interested in applying or learning more about this university; sign-up in Student Services.

·         Seniors: A representative from San Joaquin Valley College will be here for an informational presentation next Tuesday, December 11th. If you are interested in attending this presentation, please sign-up in Student Services.

·         Scholarship Workshop:  Seniors-Ms. Bitney is hosting an ongoing scholarship workshop on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school in room 605 from 3:30 to 4:30.  This is a great resource for assistance and information about scholarships, so make sure to go by and see her.

·         Seniors- College Covered is offering a drawing to randomly select eligible students to win a $10,000 scholarship award to help pay for college.
