*         Miner Emporium:  Come by the Miner Emporium (student store) and check out the new gear. We have beanies, bucket hats, hoodies and t-shirts with our new logo. Get them while supplies last.

*         The Marines will be on campus on Mondays in the quad area, the Army will be on campus on Tuesdays in front of the Career Center, the Navy will be on campus on Wednesdays in front of the Career Center.







STUDENT NOTES




·         Attention junior and senior students: It's that time of year again! The ANNUAL ENCHANTED EVENING PROM DRESS event will be taking place on Saturday March 17th at the Wyndham Hotel Back Entrance (Formally known as the Visalia Holiday Inn) from 6:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. You must sign up in the Student Services Office by March 14, 2018.

·         2018 Winter Athletic Awards took place February 26th. Please see the attachments or go on the El Diamante Athletic Webpage to view our award winners.

·         EDHS Cheer Packets are available for pick up in the student services office starting February 26th, and due March 13th. You must complete a packet in order to try out for the EDHS 2018-19 cheer squads. See Miss Skadan for further questions.

·         Attention all students: If you are interested in learning about ASB/Student Government and Leadership opportunities there will be a meeting on March 1 at lunch and again after school in room 601. Class officer packets will be available as well as information for those students who want to enroll in the leadership class next year. If you have questions see Ms. McKee in 601.

·         Do you like to write? Do you like to take pictures? Do you like to work with InDesign or Photoshop? If any of these sound good to you, register for Journalism next year. Looking for interested students to be a part of The Dig. If that is YOU, see Ms. Moore in room 606 or your learning director.

·         Academic Awards Night is coming up on March 5th at 6:30 in the gym.  To qualify you must have had a semester GPA of 3.67 or better in either the spring semester of last year or the fall semester of this year (for freshmen it is just the fall semester of this year.)  If you qualify for an academic award you will receive a letter of invitation on Friday in your home room.  Be sure to take the letter home and show it to your parents.  If you don't get a letter but feel you should have, come to the Student Services office and see Mr. Buenafe.  Thank you!

·         Current Sophomores and Juniors: The Ambassador Applications are now available online and in the Student Services Office. The application must be completed with two teacher recommendations. This program will take place in the 2018-2019 school year. As a reminder, you must have an overall 2.75 GPS to become an Academic Ambassador. See your Learning Director if you have questions.

·         Students- If you have requested Official Transcripts or a Pink Slip from Mrs. Davis, please come pick them up in the Student Services office.

·         Beanies are allowed during the colder months from November 1st to March 1st and must be of a solid color with no logo or lettering however may contain the school logo. All approved headgear must not cover the face and shall be worn as intended to provide protection outdoors only and may not be worn indoors. The school or district is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged headgear.

·         Spring Fling guest passes are now available: The dance is Saturday, March 3rd at Mt. Whitney High School Gym from 8 - 11 PM!  If your date to the dance is NOT a VUSD student you must have an approved guest pass in order for your guest to attend the dance.  Guest passes may be picked up in the Student Services Office and must be turned back in to Mrs. Vang no later than Wednesday, February 28th by 3:30 pm in order to get it approved (NO LATE GUEST PASSES WILL BE APPROVED!).  Remember you must be clear of all fines in order to be eligible.  Dance Tickets go on sale starting February 27- March 2 until 3:30pm in the Finance Office. Tickets prices are: $15 w/ASB sticker, $25 w/out ASB sticker, and $35 at the door. In addition, you must present a current valid school I.D. at the door to be admitted to the dance!  No exceptions!  If you do not have a current ID, please stop by the Student Services Office at lunch or after school to make one!  Appropriate dancing and behavior is expected!  Dress Code<http://www.vusd.org/files/filesystem/Moonlight%20Harvest%20Dress%20Code.pdf> will be strictly enforced.  Hope to see you there! A dance contract (located in Student Services Office) must be completed and submitted to Finance Office before you can purchase a ticket (if you have already signed a dance contract this school year, you are clear for the current year dances).

·         Visalia Unified School District seeks to form a student task force to provide input and insights to the superintendent and the board on issues that are of high interest to students. This task force will meet 4-6 times a year with dates and times to be determined. We will seek students who can serve a 1 or 2 year term on this task force. Our first topic will be VUSD dress code. To apply for membership on the task force, go to: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1NNuJfPyswZf7X8P_7PMhuvrmyKPCdNfgvta4TwcouJg/edit and complete the application. Deadline to apply is March 7th. For questions, contact your principal or email Angela Sanchez, Area Superintendent at asanchez at vusd.org. The membership of this task force will be comprised of 20-25 VUSD high school students who:

o    Are currently in the 10th or 11th grade

o   Are you from all of our traditional and educational options high schools

o   Represent a wide range of student viewpoints, beliefs, backgrounds and experiences.

o   Would like to learn and provide input and insights to the superintendent and the board of education to assist them in making decisions that positively affect our students.

SENIOR NOTES



·         Attention Seniors! If you are interested in auditioning for the musical performance at the El Diamante High School Graduation Ceremony on June 1, please sign up in Student Services Office before Monday, April 9. Auditions will be on Tuesday, April 24 at lunch and/or after school in the room #702. See Mrs. Vang if you have questions.

·         Seniors! Tomorrow (March 2) is the FAFSA deadline. If you haven't done yours yet, and you plan to go to college, better get moving. It's not that hard... go to www.fafsa.ed.gov<file:///C:\Users\treynolds\Desktop\www.fafsa.ed.gov> and do it today!

·         Attention Seniors! If you are interested in auditioning to be the Graduation Speaker at the El Diamante High School Graduation Ceremony on June 1, please sign up in Student Services by Wednesday, April 11 and pick up the information sheet detailing the speech criteria. You must submit a copy of your speech by April 18 to Mrs. Vang. Auditions will be at lunch and/or after school in the career center on April 26. See Mrs. Vang if you have questions.

·         Proteus Scholarship: offering 20-25 $500 scholarships. Criteria: Applicant family must be low income, parents or student must have received a service from Proteus in the last 2 years, must be enrolled as a full time student for 2018-2019 school year, and plan to attend a two or four-year College. Applications and more information for this scholarship are available in Student Services. Deadline is 4/1/18.

·         Scholarship Workshop:  Seniors-Ms. Bitney is hosting an ongoing scholarship workshop on Mondays and Wednesdays after school in room 605 from 3:30 to 4:30.  This is a great resource for assistance and information about scholarships, so make sure to go by and see her.

·         Seniors attending COS after graduation: COS is offering a support program for Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics (STEM) majors at COS. This program serves incoming freshmen studying STEM at COS by guaranteeing them a seat in hard-to-get critical science and math courses. If interested, you can find information and the program application at www.cos.edu/realm<file:///C:\Users\treynolds\Desktop\www.cos.edu\realm>.

·         Seniors-Covered College is offering a drawing to select students to win $10,000                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           scholarships.  For details, go to coveredcollege.com.

·         Seniors: Transcript request forms are available in the Student Services Office. If you need an official transcript, please fill this out and allow 2-4 days for Mrs. Davis to process your requests. Your first 3 Official transcripts are free.  After that you will be charged $1 per transcript. Tulare County Charter of ACSA Student Scholarship Application is now available in the Student Services office. The application is due on Friday, March 2, 2018. Applications for this scholarship require:

Ø  The applicant must be graduating this school year.

Ø  The parent or legal guardian must have a current membership with the Tulare County Charter of ACSA. (Association of California School Administrators)

Ø  The applicant must have maintained a G.P.A. of 2.5 or higher for the seven semesters prior to the application deadline.

Ø  Applications must be received by no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018.

·         "Digging for Diamonds" Annual Miner Foundation Dinner Fundraiser.  The event will be held at the Elks Lodge on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 6:00 PM. Tickets are now available to purchase in the Finance office for $25 each. Tickets will soon be available on El D's website for credit card purchase. There will be a silent and LIVE auction at the event.  The money raised at the event will go to scholarships and school improvement projects. It is always a really fun evening and an opportunity to help out by donating items for auction and/ or bidding on items!
