·         The Marines will be on campus on Mondays, the Army will be on campus on Tuesdays, and the National Guard will be on campus Thursday's in the quad area during lunch to answer any questions you may have. If you are interested in the Navy or the Air Force, please stop by Student Services so we can set up an appointment for you.




STUDENT NOTES



Today:



·         Boys Basketball practice TONIGHT May 22 at 6:00 PM at La Joya Middle School.



·         If you are interested in Cross Country for next school year, there is going to be a MANDATORY meeting this TODAY May 22 during lunch in Room 908 to discuss summer training.



·         Facet Night begins at 5:30 PM TONIGHT May 22 for Seniors ONLY. Facet Night will begin for all Underclassmen at 6:00 PM. Yearbooks will be distributed in the EDHS Library. If MONEY IS OWED, there will be a sales table with extra autograph sections, photo pocket pages, and clear protective covers for sale. If there are any Yearbooks left, they will be on sale on a first come, first serve basis for $90 each. All transactions must be in cash. Food trucks will be present for purchase of food during Senior Sunset.



·         Senior Sunset will be TONIGHT May 22. Seniors your event will begin in the gym at 7:30 doors will open at 7:15. Come for an evening of shared memories as you view the senior slideshow, then you will walk together out to the track to enjoy music, and a sweet treat as you watch the sun go down.



New Announcements:



·         WIN Academy (also known as Saturday University) will be this Saturday, May 25 from 8:15am-12:15pm. There will be a sign on the front gate letting you know which room to go to. Seniors, bring your friends and have fun while making up attendance! If you have any questions, please see Mr. Abbott in room 366.



·         If you will be attending COS next year and are interested in working there, the COS Welcome Center is hiring! Requirements include a high school GPA of 2.75 or higher and must be enrolled in at least 6 units for the Fall 2019 semester. For more information and applications, please see the attached flyer or come in to Student Services.



·         Seniors: All your textbooks and fines must be paid off in order for you to participate in the Graduation Ceremony on June 4. See Mrs. Pena in Finance or Mrs. Evaro in the library if you believe you still have a fine or an outstanding textbook. See Mrs. Vang in Student Services if you have questions.



·         Commencement Ceremony: Students need to check in and arrive to the RHS gym at 6pm. Leave all items in your car or with your family. If you arrive with items, you will be asked to return to your cars to put away your belongings. Absolutely no keys, cellphones, lasers, etc.



·         El Diamante High School Graduation is Tuesday, June 4th at 7:30 p.m. at the Mineral King Bowl.  There will be 'metal wanding' at graduation again this year.  Gates will open at 6:00 PM.  Please: No balloons or noisemakers allowed at graduation to ensure all parents will be able to see and hear their student's name clearly.  Enjoy the ceremony!
Old Announcements:

·         Last year, El Diamante donated almost 180 pints of blood, the most of any high school in Visalia! This year we are shooting for even more! The Blood Drive is scheduled from 11:00 AM - 2:30 PM on Thursday, May 23rd. If you are 16 years old, 110 pounds or more, in good health and have the required parent permission form, you can donate! Student signups are in the Student Services office if you choose to donate. Staff and parents are welcome to donate as well.


·         If you are interested in taking the ASVAB, the Army will be holding a testing date at COS on Tuesday May 28th from 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM. You do not need to be interested in joining any military branch to take the test. For more information, see Student Services.


·         Finals for seniors begin on Thursday, May 30th, Periods 1, 3 & 5 and Friday, May 31, Periods 2, 4 & 6. All seniors still need to attend school on Monday, June 3, 2019 as this is a make-up senior finals day.


·         Finals for underclassmen will begin on Wednesday, June 5- Periods 0, 2 & 4; Thursday, June 6- Periods 0, 1, & 3; and Friday, June 7- Periods 5 & 6. Finals end at 12:30 each of these days.

·         Looking for a summer job? Employment Connection is having a Job Fair on Tuesday, June 11th and is open to students 16 or older. See the attached flyer for more information or stop by Student Services.

·         Fresno State is hosting the Central Valley Emerging Leaders Summit (CVELS). This free 3 day leadership development institute will once again bring together high school students from across the Valley to build their leadership capacity. The Summit will take place on the Fresno State campus July 31, August 1 & 2, 2019. Priority application deadline is May 20; applications will continue to be accepted until all spots are filled. Students who are selected will receive an email; parents/guardians and counselors will be copied. For more details, please see Student Services.



·         AP Biology: If you are planning to take AP Biology for the 2019-2020 school year, please pick up the summer assignment from Mrs. Fifield in room 313 before school, at lunch, or afterschool by Friday, May 31st.



·         AP EUROPEAN HISTORY: There is no required assignment, but anyone interested might read The Prince by Niccolò Machiavelli and learn the names of the states in Europe. Of course, reading anything about European history from 1450 to the present would give you insights into the course content. ·         AP UNITED STATES HISTORY: There is no required assignment for Mr. Morrison's AP U.S. History class, but anyone interested might consider learning the names, parties, and dates of service of the U.S. Presidents. Of course, reading any book on U.S. history would give you insights into the course content. If you would like a list of the Presidents, you can stop by 619 or visit my course website. ·         Attention Students: Headgear is not allowed. This includes hats, caps, bandanas, sweatbands, hairnets, head bands, do-rags, and beanies. This dress code will be enforced and you will be asked to remove with possible confiscation and parent pick up.

·         Dress Code Reminder: See-through or fish-net fabrics, halter tops, tube tops, bare midriff, spaghetti straps, off-the-shoulder; excessively short skirts or shorts and low-cut tops are not acceptable. Basketball jersey style tank tops with scooped front and armholes must be worn with a T-shirt. Shirts with cut-off sleeves are not allowed.



·         Students if you need to request a DMV Pink Slip, please go to Mrs. Springer's room 318 with your transcript and pink slip request form. You can put in a request to get your Pink Slip before school, during homeroom, and during lunch. Please allow 2-3 school days for processing before picking it up. We will no longer issue Pink Slips in the Student Services office.

SENIOR NOTES



·         Seniors: Reminder that graduation practice is Tuesday, June 4 at 8 a.m. in the Mineral King Stadium.  Please bring a pen or pencil.  Practice is mandatory. You will not be let into the bowl until 7:40am, therefore do not arrive before this time. Don't be late!   Please remember, if you are planning on participating in the ceremony, you must attend practice.  Students not at practice will not be allowed to participate in the event.  You must also have all student fines and obligations taken care of to participate in the Commencement ceremony. No alterations to caps and gowns are allowed.  Please pay close attention to the parking restrictions around the Bowl when attending graduation practice and the ceremony.  You cannot park in the Redwood parking lot. You are allowed to park in the Mt. Whitney Parking lot and walk across the bridge to the Mineral King Bowl. Violators presenting safety hazards and not adhering to the parking restrictions could be cited and/or towed. If you have any questions see Mrs. Vang at 735-3504.



·         Attention Seniors! Commencement Dress Code:  Staff will check for appropriate attire before being allowed into the Redwood Gym graduation night. Men: Collared shirt, tie, dress shoes, dress slacks -- no denims or Levis. Women: Dress or dressy pants, dress shoes. No flip flops, sandals, Birkenstocks, tennis shoes, shorts, sunglasses, cameras or other distractive accessories.  No alterations to cap and gown are allowed! You cannot bring your cellphones, keys or purses into the RHS gym. If you have any of these items with you, you will be asked to bring it to a family member to hold for you before being allowed into the Redwood Gym. This will be strictly enforced!  We will all wear our caps and gowns as they come out of the box to preserve the dignity of the event.



·         The Academies Charter Management Organization is pleased to announce The Academies Alumni Scholarship. One $500 award will be granted to a qualifying applicant. This scholarship is a merit-based award for college-bound high school graduates who attended one of The Academies charter schools for all or part of their K-8 education. The deadline to apply is June 7, 2019. For more information about qualifications and how to apply, please see Student Services.


·         Attention Graduating Seniors: EL DIAMANTE CLASS OF 2019 FINAL TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS must be made using the online Google form found on the El Diamante website under Student Services/Transcript Request: https://www.vusd.org/Page/16520.  Once you have accepted the college/university you will be attending Fall 2019, please fill out the request form. You must include the COMPLETE MAILING ADDRESS for the college/university you will be attending. Final transcripts will be mailed out the week of June 17, 2019 after grades have posted.
