STUDENT NOTES

Today:

*         TODAY is a Diamond Day for our Seniors who passed the CAASPP test their Junior year with a 3 or higher in Math and/or English. Seniors with the Diamond symbol on their ID cards will be let out for lunch 5 minutes early. If you do not have your ID card, you will not be allowed to leave early for lunch.

*         Basketball tryouts continue this week. Tryout schedule is TONIGHT at 6:00 PM. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to be determined based on volleyball playoffs. Water Polo and Cross Country athletes that have seasons still going will have tryouts when their seasons conclude, please stop by the gym after your practice to check in with Coach Lynch. All football players interested in trying out should be attendance.

*         Attention Parents of Advanced Placement (AP) Students:  All AP exams are available for purchase. The cost of each AP exam offered through College Board is $94.  You may purchase the exams either in the finance office on campus OR on the EDHS web-store online.  All test purchases must be made no later than TODAY November 5th, 2019.  No deposit is required, but exams must be paid in full for El Diamante to order your exam from collegeboard. Any student who does not purchase their exams IN FULL by TODAY, November 5th will not have an exam ordered due to ordering deadlines and procedures implemented by the Collegeboard.

New Announcements:

*         Reflections Art Contest entries are due this month! Friday, November 22 is the last day to turn in your entries for the PTSA Reflections Art Contest. Check this link out for more information!  https://capta.org/programs-events/reflections/. There are flyers around campus with information as well, or ask your art/dance teachers.

*         ATTENTION SENIORS:  It's time for the senior panoramic photo. This will take place next Thursday, November 14th during homeroom. Report to your homeroom class first! Your teacher will escort you to the GYM for the picture. No props, signs, hand gestures, etc. Please be careful not to block anyone's face from the pictures. T-shirt designs must adhere to VUSD dress code guidelines. Anyone not willing to follow these guidelines and those of the photographer and administration will be asked to leave and will not be in the picture. Thanks in advance for your cooperation!

Old Announcements:

*         The XL Program will be hosting a College Application workshop on November 7th from 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM in Computer Lab 62. This is a great opportunity to get one on one help to finish up your college applications in time for November 30th!

*         The next PTSA meeting is Tuesday, November 12th at 5:30 PM in the library.  Tanya & Jerry Perez, experienced teachers and parents of two successful El Diamante graduates, will be presenting helpful ideas and strategies for applying for colleges, and advice on what to keep in mind throughout each year of high school.  All students (freshman-seniors!) and parents are encouraged to attend.

*         Miner's Got Talent Fall Show is November 14th, try outs will be November 7th and 8th at lunch in room 601. Sign up in Students Services.

*         Miner's Got Talent Fall Show is November 14th in the El Diamante Theater at 6 PM. Admission is $2 or two canned food items. All proceeds will go to the PTSA Holiday Food Drive.

*         Applications are being accepted for students seeking a Congressional Nomination to attend a United States Service Academy. For graduating seniors, the Academy Nomination Application must be mailed or hand delivered to Congressman Nunes' Visalia Office by Friday, November 15th, 2019. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

*         Fresno State's Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department is hosting a special event for high school students to inform them about this discipline and the many career opportunities on November 16 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. There will be free food and prizes for all attendees. Students will have a chance to network with current Fresno State students and faculty in the department. Please see the attachment, "Fresno State Special Event" for more information.

*         The EDHS PTSA is looking for your used Miner Gear.  If you have Miner shirts, shorts, sweats, etc that are too small/large or just sitting in your closet, please consider donating them to the PTSA.  We will resell them at our meetings, and proceeds will go toward Holiday Care Packages and student scholarships.  You can drop them off in the office, in a bag labeled "PTSA."

*         Pink slips will now be processed in the Student Services office. If you have taken and passed Driver's Ed or College Careers with a C or better, stop by Student Services to fill out and turn in a pink slip request. After submitting a request, the pink slip will be ready for pick up in 1-2 school days. Please see Ms. DeRoma in Student Services if you have any questions.

*         As a reminder, Work Permits are only issued during the school year at the school site. Work permits are not available during school breaks (Thanksgiving, winter, and spring) or school holidays. You may request a work permit during summer break at the District Office. Please allow at least 24 hours for the work permit to be processed.

*         Attention Students! There will be no hanging out in the parking lot before school, during lunch, or after school. If you are on school grounds, you must come on to campus.

*         Attention students! If you use the skateboard lockers that are located next to the band room, please remember to take your lock off when you take your skateboard home for the day. You cannot keep your lock on to "reserve" a spot.

*         The XL Program is up and running! This year's program offerings include, AM & PM Tutoring, Jiu Jitsu, Drama Production, Africana Studies, Computer Programming, and much, much more. As always, snack is free and available to all El Diamante students. Stop by Computer Lab 62 for more information.

SENIOR NOTES

*         College Application Deadlines & Help: Below are some of the most common application deadlines for this fall college application season. Mr. Stahl will be available for college application help from Oct 2 Nov 22 every WED and FRI in computer lab 61 during homeroom.  Come by the Student Services Office and sign up to receive a Homeroom Pass to attend. REMINDER THAT ALL CSU/UC APPLICATIONS ARE DUE ON NOVEMBER 30TH. The last day to get help from Mr. Stahl is NOVEMBER 22, before we go on break.

*         Seniors:  Grad Nite is Friday, May 15, 2020. The destination will be Disneyland and CA Adventure Park. The cost for Grad Nite is $245, CASH ONLY; tickets will go on sale at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, 3/2/20 - this is the ONLY day you can purchase tickets. The ticket is non-refundable! You will need to line up to purchase your tickets with the people you want to be on the same bus with.  There will be NO BUS CHANGES after you purchase your ticket.  Students are not permitted on campus until 7:00 a.m. - "camping out" is not allowed.  In order to purchase your tickets to Grad Nite, you MUST be on track to graduate, be on track with a 94% attendance rate the week prior to Grad Nite and make sure to clear all fines through the Finance office and the Library.  You will not be admitted to purchase tickets for Grad Nite without a completed Grad Nite Permission packet which includes your parent signatures and signatures from the library and finance office.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  Copies of the permission packet will be provide to seniors at the Senior Meeting in February. Afterwards, they will also be available on the EDHS website and in the Student Services Office.
