STUDENT NOTES

Today:


*         Preparations for Battle for the Saddle have commenced, as it's right around the corner! If you are interested in participating in the behind the scenes and videos shown throughout the rally, there will be meetings TODAY and every day during lunch for the next two weeks in room 902. Anyone can help making these videos, we hope to see you there!



*         The CSU College Application Workshop is today in the Library starting at 9:30 AM. If you signed up and did not receive a pass, please come to Student Services for assistance.


*         Attention Diamond Seniors! TODAY you will be receiving a treat during homeroom. Please meet right outside of the student store to receive your special treat!


*         Rooter's Bus for Mt. Whitney game!  Support Miners Football and ride the Rooter's bus to the game TONIGHT.  Cost is $1 and includes food, drink, a seat on the bus, and entrance into the game. Permission Forms are available through Homeroom or in Student Services Office. The form needs to be signed BY A PARENT. You may turn in your permission form up until you get on the bus. There will be a tailgate starting at 5:15 pm and we will be departing EDHS for Mineral King Bowl at 5:45 PM. This is a Pink Out game so be sure to wear your pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness!


*         Friday Night Football is at the Bowl TONIGHT.  We will be playing Mt. Whitney. This game will be a PINK OUT in awareness and support of the fight against breast cancer.


*         El Diamante's Miner Diamond Players present "Ordinary People," their fall production. Performances are at 7pm TONIGHT & Saturday, and a matinee performance at 2pm on Saturday. Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults. Tickets may be purchased beginning October 1 on the school website, or at the door.

*         Missy Yavasile from SOAR College Planning will be speaking at the next PTSA meeting about how to lower the cost of college and how to maximize scholarships and grants regardless of your family income. All parents & students are welcome! The meeting Monday, October 21, at 5:30 pm in the EDHS Library. Please see the attached flier, "El Diamante PTSA Oct 21", for more information



*         The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a multiple choice test used to determine qualification for enlistment in the United States Armed Forces and is given once a year on the El Diamante High School campus. You do not have to be interested in joining the military to take the ASVAB. It is a great career exploration tool for anyone to take advantage of. To take the exam, students must be in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade. The ASVAB will be administered on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2019 in the Library from 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM. *         COS is going to be hosting a Transition Night on their campus on Thursday October 24 at 5:30 PM. High school students and their families are invited to come and learn about further education options. Students with 504 Plans, IEPs or any other medical condition are encouraged to attend. For more information, please see the attachment "COS Transition Night".


*         Need a new lanyard or a sticker for your Hydroflask? EDHS' Miner Diamond Players will be selling swag before school, after school, and at lunches from October 14 through October 25. Miner Diamond Player lanyards are $5, and logo stickers are $2. Come by our table during lunch, or to room 701 before and after school, to support our program.


*         Soroptimist International of Visalia and United Way will be hosting a one-day Dream It, Be It Career Conference on October 26, 2019 from 10:00 am-3:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Visalia-Geneva Hall. There will be activities for each participant, mentors, and prizes given out. Lunch will be included. There is no charge to attend but preregistration is required. *         Attention Parents of Advanced Placement (AP) Students:  All AP exams are now available for purchase.  The cost of each AP exam offered through college-board is $94.  You may purchase the exams either in the finance office on campus OR on the EDHS web-store online.  All test purchases must be made no later than November 5, 2019.  No deposit is required, but exams must be paid in full for El Diamante to order your exam from collegeboard.  (If your student currently qualifies for free OR reduced lunch they can inquire about a reduced test price with Mrs. Reynolds in the student services office).  Any student who does not purchase their exams IN FULL by November 5th will not have an exam ordered due to ordering deadlines and procedures implemented by the Collegeboard.


*         Applications are being accepted for students seeking a Congressional Nomination to attend a United States Service Academy. For graduating seniors, the Academy Nomination Application must be mailed or hand delivered to Congressman Nunes' Visalia Office by Friday, November 15th 2019. Please see the attached flyer for more information.


*         Girl's Soccer Conditioning has started and will be Monday's, Tuesday's and Thursday's. If you plan on trying out for the team, it is highly encouraged and recommended to come out. Any questions ask Coach Heiden in the girls locker room.


*         Boys Soccer Conditioning has started and will be held on Wednesdays. We will meet at 3:45 at the stairs near room 312. No cleats are needed just comfortable shoes to run in. If you are interested in trying out for boys soccer you are encouraged to join us. Any Questions see Coach Gonzalez in room 312.


*         Attention EDHS Students and Families! Please join our new EDHS Activities and News Remind account to keep up to date on all the things that are happening here at El Diamante. Please see the attachment "EDHS Activities Remind Flyer" on how to sign up.


*         The EDHS PTSA is looking for your used Miner Gear.  If you have Miner shirts, shorts, sweats, etc that are too small/large or just sitting in your closet, please consider donating them to the PTSA.  We will resell them at our meetings, and proceeds will go toward Holiday Care Packages and student scholarships.  You can drop them off in the office, in a bag labeled "PTSA."


*         Pink slips will now be processed in the Student Services office. If you have taken and passed Driver's Ed or College Careers with a C or better, stop by Student Services to fill out and turn in a pink slip request. After submitting a request, the pink slip will be ready for pick up in 1-2 school days. Please see Ms. DeRoma in Student Services if you have any questions.



*         As a reminder, Work Permits are only issued during the school year at the school site. Work permits are not available during school breaks (Thanksgiving, winter, and spring) or school holidays. You may request a work permit during summer break at the District Office. Please allow at least 24 hours for the work permit to be processed.


*         Attention Students! There will be no hanging out in the parking lot before school, during lunch, or after school. If you are on school grounds, you must come on to campus.


*         Attention students! If you use the skateboard lockers that are located next to the band room, please remember to take your lock off when you take your skateboard home for the day. You cannot keep your lock on to "reserve" a spot.


*         The XL Program is up and running! This year's program offerings include, AM & PM Tutoring, Jiu Jitsu, Drama Production, Africana Studies, Computer Programming, and much, much more. As always, snack is free and available to all El Diamante students. Stop by Computer Lab 62 for more information.

SENIOR NOTES



*         College Application Deadlines & Help: Below are some of the most common application deadlines for this fall college application season. Mr. Stahl will be available for college application help from Oct 2 Nov 22 every WED and FRI in computer lab 61 during homeroom.  Come by the Student Services Office and sign up to receive a Homeroom Pass to attend. REMINDER THAT ALL CSU/UC APPLICATIONS ARE DUE ON NOVEMBER 30TH. The last day to get help from Mr. Stahl is NOVEMBER 22, before we go on break.

*         College of the Sequoias (COS)- cos.edu

COS is Visalia's local community college. Students can attend here and complete a vocational or certificate license. Students can also attend her for before transferring to a 4 year university to pursue their Bachelor's degree in their desired subject.  There are many pros and cons to attending a community college. Speak with your parents and discuss your goals for college. A definite positive is community colleges cost less than university tuition. A reminder that all COS Application workshops will be held on site and COS staff will be here to guide students through this process. More information to come.

*          California State Universities (CSU System)- Cal State Apply

CalStateApply is the website designed to help students and their families apply to the California State University (CSU) system. The CSU is comprised of 23 excellent campuses. CalStateApply assists students in planning for college, in selecting the appropriate CSU campus to attend, in planning how to finance their education, and in applying for admission. Applications open on October 1st and are due no later than November 30th. https://www2.calstate.edu/apply

*         University of California (UC System)-My UC Application

MyUCApplication is the website designed to help students and their families apply to the University of California (UC) system. The UC System is comprised of 9 excellent undergraduate campuses. The UC Application website assists students in planning for college, in selecting the appropriate UC campus to attend, in planning how to finance their education, and in applying for admission. Applications open on October 1st. They can be submitted during November 1-30. https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/apply-now.html

*         The Common Application

The Common Application membership<https://www.commonapp.org/search-colleges> represents institutions from 50 U.S. states, 20 countries, and includes more than 170 public institutions, 49 minority-serving institutions, and 64 international institutions is an undergraduate college admission application that applicants may use to apply to any of 876 member colleges and universities in 50 states as well as internationally.  Each school has their own admission criteria so please check your school of interest and their website for more details. Application deadlines vary from November 2019-January 2020 depending on your school

of application. Please check for your earliest deadline. Early decision may be available. https://www.commonapp.org/apply/first-time-students

*         Private Schools/ Out of State Schools

Each private institution or out of state institution may have their own personal application to be completed.  It is extremely important that you check your school's website for directions and more importantly application deadlines. Application deadlines are estimated to vary from November 2019- January 2020. Please check for your deadline dates immediately. Early decision may be available.



*         Attention Seniors and Senior Parents: Ordering information packets are available in the Student Services Office for Senior Cap and Gown Presentation. Cap, Gown and Graduation Announcement orders will be accepted on Monday, October 28th in the Civics / Econ Classes. Students who do not have a Civics / Econ class may place their orders during lunch outside room 617.
