Today:


*         Mock Trial is holding an informational meeting during lunch TODAY in room 606. Bring your own lunch and pick up the audition papers. Auditions will be the following Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:30-6:00 or homeroom if you are unable to make those times. Any questions, see Ms. Moore in room 606.



*         If you are interested in the Girls Soccer Team, we are holding skills and conditioning practices TODAY @ 3:30 on the north fields. This is a great way to begin getting ready for the upcoming season! Any questions you may contact Coach Heiden in the Girls PE office.


*         We invite you to attend the El Diamante Freshmen/Sophomore Parent Night! It is at 6:00 pm, TONIGHT, September 24th in the EDHS library. We will discuss how to prepare your students for the rest of high school and college, as well as share some important information on useful resources. We hope to see you there!

New Announcements:


*         Animal Charity will hold its first club meeting TODAY in the gym at lunch. Dog and cat food donations are being accepted at the meeting.


*         Attention Students! There will be no hanging out in the parking lot before or after school. If you are on school grounds, you must come on to campus.

Old Announcements:


*         COS Senior Informational Meeting - There will be a COS Informational meeting on Wednesday, September 25th and Thursday, September 26th during homeroom in the EDHS Gym. All seniors will attend one of these meetings to hear about the COS application process, requirements to attend COS and Financial Aide options. Please see your homeroom teacher for more information on when your homeroom class will attend this meeting.



*         Attention Junior and Seniors you and your parents are invited to attend our Junior/Senior Parent Night. The event will be on Wednesday, September 25 at 6:00 pm in the EDHS Theater.  We will be discussing Graduation & A-G requirements, College systems, NCAA, Financial Aid and more.  If you have any questions please follow up with Senior LD - Mr. Stahl or Junior LD Mrs.  Garcia



*         PSAT is available to purchase for $17 at the finance window or on the El Diamante Webstore. The last day to purchase is September 27th.


*         The Fall Rally will take place next Friday, September 27 after 4th period. The schedule will be as follows:

*         Attention anyone who wants to wrestle for El Diamante this upcoming season, practices will start September 30th at 3:30 pm in the wrestling/dance room. Bring workout attire and your wrestling shoes.



*         Moonlight Harvest Dance:  Will be held on Saturday, October 5 from 8 - 11 p.m. in the Mt. Whitney High School Gym.  Tickets go on sale beginning Monday, September 30-Thursday, October 3 in the Finance Office before school, during lunch or after school for $15 per single ticket w/ASB, $25 per single ticket w/o ASB, $45 per single ticket at the door. If your date to the dance is NOT a VUSD student you must have an approved guest pass in order for your guest to attend the dance.  Guest passes for students outside of VUSD may be picked up in the Student Services Office beginning September 30 and must be turned back in to Mrs. Vang no later than Wednesday, October 2 by 3:30 pm in order to get it approved (NO LATE GUEST PASSES WILL BE APPROVED!).  Remember that you must be clear of all fines in order to be eligible.  In addition, you must present a current valid school I.D. at the door to be admitted to the dance!  No exceptions!  If you have lost or misplaced your current ID, please stop by the Student Services Office at lunch or after school to make one for $10!  Appropriate dancing and behavior is expected!  Dress Code will be strictly enforced. Please see attached dress code. The time for pictures will be 6-7 pm and the starting again at 8 pm in the MWHS Gymnasium.


*         Grades 9-11 school picture make-ups will be Wednesday, October 2 in the Career Center, you must sign up in Student Services for an appointment.


*         Congressman Nunes' Annual Academy Night is at 6:30 PM on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at the Clovis Unified School District Professional Development Building in Clovis. This evening is for students of all grade levels, along with their parents, to meet representatives from the academies, gather information and learn about academy life and the congressional nomination process. Please see attached flyer for more information.


*         We are inviting 5th to 10th grade students and parents/guardians to Ignite Your Curiosity about the endless career options! Join professionals for conversations about their careers, training needed, and education requirements. Each industry panel will consist of 3-4 professionals. You and your child will choose 3 different panels to visit during the evening. It is going to be held on October 14th, 2019 at 6:00 PM at El Diamante High School. Hope to see you there!


*         The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a multiple choice test used to determine qualification for enlistment in the United States Armed Forces and is given once a year on the El Diamante High School campus. To take the exam, students must be in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade. The ASVAB will be administered on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2019 in the Library from 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM. *         Applications are being accepted for students seeking a Congressional Nomination to attend a United States Service Academy. For graduating seniors, the Academy Nomination Application must be mailed or hand delivered to Congressman Nunes' Visalia Office by Friday, November 15th 2019. Please see the attached flyer for more information.


*         Attention students! If you use the skateboard lockers that are located next to the band room, please remember to take your lock off when you take your skateboard home for the day. You cannot keep your lock on to "reserve" a spot.


*         The XL Program is up and running! This year's program offerings include, AM & PM Tutoring, Jiu Jitsu, Drama Production, Africana Studies, Computer Programming, and much, much more. As always, snack is free and available to all El Diamante students. Stop by Computer Lab 62 for more information.

SENIOR NOTES



*         CAL GRANT OPT OUT:  With the implementation of Assembly Bill 2160, California public high schools are required to submit a Cal Grant high school Grade Point Average (GPA) for all graduating seniors, unless the student or parent has opted out of the submission process.  If you do not want El Diamante High School to report a GPA, please pick up the Opt Out Form in the Student Services Office before October 1st.



*         Seniors: If you have not taken your senior photo with Essence photography, you must make an appointment as soon as possible by calling 799-1255. If you cannot make it to the studio, Essence will be coming to our campus for ONE DAY ONLY, Tuesday, October 1. Sign up in Student Services Office before 9/26 to secure a make-up spot with Essence. You DO NOT have to purchase pictures in order for your picture to be in the yearbook. We would love to have ALL seniors in the yearbook!





*         College Application Deadlines & Help: Below are some of the most common application deadlines for this fall college application season. Mr. Stahl will be available for college application help from Oct 2 Nov 22 every WED and FRI in computer lab 61 during homeroom.  Come by the Student Services Office and sign up to receive a Homeroom Pass to attend. REMINDER THAT ALL CSU/UC APPLICATIONS ARE DUE ON NOVEMBER 30TH. The last day to get help from Mr. Stahl is NOVEMBER 22, before we go on break.

*         College of the Sequoias (COS)- cos.edu

COS is Visalia's local community college. Students can attend here and complete a vocational or certificate license. Students can also attend her for before transferring to a 4 year university to pursue their Bachelor's degree in their desired subject.  There are many pros and cons to attending a community college. Speak with your parents and discuss your goals for college. A definite positive is community colleges cost less than university tuition. A reminder that all COS Application workshops will be held on site and COS staff will be here to guide students through this process. More information to come.

*          California State Universities (CSU System)- Cal State Apply

CalStateApply is the website designed to help students and their families apply to the California State University (CSU) system. The CSU is comprised of 23 excellent campuses. CalStateApply assists students in planning for college, in selecting the appropriate CSU campus to attend, in planning how to finance their education, and in applying for admission. Applications open on October 1st and are due no later than November 30th. https://www2.calstate.edu/apply

*         University of California (UC System)-My UC Application

MyUCApplication is the website designed to help students and their families apply to the University of California (UC) system. The UC System is comprised of 9 excellent undergraduate campuses. The UC Application website assists students in planning for college, in selecting the appropriate UC campus to attend, in planning how to finance their education, and in applying for admission. Applications open on October 1st. They can be submitted during November 1-30. https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/apply-now.html

*         The Common Application

The Common Application membership<https://www.commonapp.org/search-colleges> represents institutions from 50 U.S. states, 20 countries, and includes more than 170 public institutions, 49 minority-serving institutions, and 64 international institutions is an undergraduate college admission application that applicants may use to apply to any of 876 member colleges and universities in 50 states as well as internationally.  Each school has their own admission criteria so please check your school of interest and their website for more details. Application deadlines vary from November 2019-January 2020 depending on your school of application. Please check for your earliest deadline. *         Private Schools/ Out of State Schools

Each private institution or out of state institution may have their own personal application to be completed.  It is extremely important that you check your school's website for directions and more importantly application deadlines. Application deadlines are estimated to vary from November 2019- January 2020. Please check for your deadline dates immediately. Early decision may be available.



*         Sign-ups for the first UC College Application Workshop are now open. Please come by Student Services to sign up. They are being held on October 3rd, 2019 in the library. There are two time slots, one at 9:00 AM and one at 11:00 AM.



*         CASH FOR COLLEGE F.A.F.S.A. NIGHT: SENIORS ONLY - Monday, October 7, 2019 EDHS Library.

Session 1:  5:00- 5:50 pm   English language and Spanish Language

      Session 2:  6:00- 6:50 pm   English language and Spanish Language

      Session 3:  7:00- 7:50 pm   English language and Spanish Language
You must sign-up in the Student Services Office beginning September 23 to hold your place for a session at this event.  Last day to sign up is October 4!  Please be sure to have a FAFSA FSA ID before the workshop! You can do it on the student aid website: https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/filling-out/fsaid. Every senior and their parent must have one in order to submit their FAFSA or Dream Act Application.
