STUDENT NOTES

Today:

*         Welcome all to Saturday University. If you need to makeup attendance, then please come to Saturday University. The classes are designed to be interactive and worth your time, plus you will also have an opportunity to do school work and improve your grades. Come with friends or ask your favorite teacher if they would be willing to teach Saturday University. Our next session is TOMORROW January 25th from 8:15am-12:15pm here on campus. Please stop by Mr. Abbott's room 366 to sign up or for more information. Hope to see you there!

Old Announcements:

*         Miner Foundation will be meeting Monday, January 27th at 5:30 pm in the Career Center.  Come join us for details on the upcoming Miner Foundation Auction!

*         In lieu of our January PTSA meeting, we will have a special speaker on Monday, January 27th, at 7:00 PM. Anna Isaias from the District Attorney's office will speak on human trafficking and social media in Tulare County. Yes, it does happen in our neighborhood! Please come and listen to what we can do about it. This is for parents and students of La Joya and El Diamante and anyone in the community that wants to know. Please see the attachment, "District Attorneys Presentation", for more information. Spread the word!

*         CSF applications for this semester are now available in Rooms 608, 609, and 617. They are due by Thursday, February 6th. Reminder that you must reapply for membership EACH semester. Questions? See Mrs. Perez in Room 608.

*         Visalia Unified School District is hosting a series of community presentations called, "Vaping: Fact vs. Fiction". Parents and all community members are welcome. Childcare will be provided. Please join us so you can be better prepared to talk with your children and teens about the dangers of vaping. Our next presentation date is Thursday, February 13th at Goshen Elementary from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.

*         FOR THE LOVE OF ART! - Are you or do you know a high school student artist looking to make $ on their art?  Visalia Education Foundation (VEF) can students sell their art...it's easy and fun!  Check out VEF's website for information on their upcoming art show and sale, For the Love of Art at http://www.visaliaedfoundation.org/. The deadline for submission is Thursday, February 27th, but it's not too early to start thinking about what you'll create!

*         Beanies will be allowed during the colder months from now until Saturday, February 29th, 2020 and must be of a solid color or contain the school logo.  All approved headgear must not cover the face and shall be worn as intended to provide protection outdoors only and may not be worn indoors.  The school or district is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged headgear.

*         Miner Foundation DIGGING FOR DIAMONDS Spring Dinner & Auction featuring live music by RUN 4 COVER - Saturday, March 14th, 2020 at 5:30 pm - at the Visalia Elks Lodge.  Proceeds of your donations go directly to funding scholarships, campus wide improvements, and club or team support.  Donate an item and earn 50% back of donation sales proceeds for your club or team and 20% back on each ticket your club or team sells! *         If anyone has lost a house key, head phones, back pack or shoes please come to the Discipline office to identify and claim items.

*         2nd Semester Schedule Changes:  Due to the lack of openings in classes, there will be no schedule changes unless the following errors occur:

1.      You have an incomplete schedule.

2.      You have already completed and passed a class listed on your schedule or

3.      You need to be enrolled in a required class that is missing from your schedule.
Requests for teacher changes and period changes or elective changes cannot be accommodated due to the impact these type of change have on class size. If you want to drop an AP class, please see your AP teacher or the Student Services Office for the Request to Drop an AP Course form. Please review this form with your AP teacher and Parents and obtain the required signatures. Student Services encourages you to fill out a request to see your LD if you have concerns with your schedule.

*         El Diamante School Marquee messages available to purchase for $50 a week.  Say Happy Birthday or Congratulations to your student.  See the office for details.

SENIOR NOTES

*         Grand Canyon University will be visiting El Diamante for a college presentation on Thursday, January 30th during homeroom in the Library. *         The El Diamante High School Local Scholarship Application is now open. The deadline to submit your application is Friday, January 31st, 2020 at 4:00 PM.  To submit your application, please click here<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1IixwRQfIVi-A0JqTeUgnddvT29pu3RvkdjJshRBnNDc/>.

*         Senior CSF members: The CSF scholarship application is now open. The application can be found on the CSF Google Classroom. Application due date is Friday, January 31st - no late applications will be accepted. Turn applications in to Room 617.

*         CASH FOR COLLEGE F.A.F.S.A. NIGHT: SENIORS ONLY - Monday, February 3rd, 2020 EDHS Library.

Every senior and their parent must have one in order to submit their FAFSA or Dream Act Application.

*         There will be a Senior Homeroom Meeting on Wednesday, February 5th in the gym. Please report to your homeroom class before going to the gym.

*         California Aeronautical University is going to be visiting El Diamante High School on Tuesday, February 18th during homeroom in the Library. *         There are several scholarships available if you are a Senior and a member of PTSA!  The State PTA scholarship application is available in Student Services office or online at capta.org<http://capta.org>.  The deadline is Saturday, February 1st.  The El Diamante PTSA scholarship is also available in the Student Services office, and is due Tuesday, March 31st. *         Seniors: Grad Nite is Friday, May 15th, 2020. The destination will be Disneyland and CA Adventures Park. The cost for Grad Nite is $245, CASH ONLY; tickets will go on sale at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, March 9th, 2020 - this is the ONLY day you can purchase tickets. The ticket is non-refundable! You will need to line up to purchase your tickets with the people you want to be on the same bus with.  There will be NO BUS CHANGES after you purchase your ticket.  Students are not permitted on campus until 7:00 a.m. - "camping out" is not allowed.  In order to purchase your tickets to Grad Nite, you MUST be on track to graduate, be on track with a 94% attendance rate the week prior to Grad Nite and make sure to clear all fines through the Finance office and the Library.  You will not be admitted to purchase tickets for Grad Nite without a completed Grad Nite Permission packet which includes your parent signatures and signatures from the library and finance office.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  Copies of the permission packet will be provide to seniors at the Senior Meeting in February. Afterwards, they will also be available on the EDHS website and in the Student Services Office.
