STUDENT NOTES

TODAY:

*         Attention Students: Math Peer Tutoring Sessions will start back up TODAY, January 25th every Tuesday-Thursday. Come to the Career Center (next to the Library) before the homeroom bell rings. Please have your ID card for check-in. Peer tutors can support you to achieve your math goals!

*         We now have weightlifting available in the after-school XL Program. We will be weightlifting from 3:30-4:30 PM after school on Tuesday's and Thursday's. If you would like to learn how to weightlift, or would like to utilize our equipment in the weight room, please join Mrs. Panuco (Miss Emerson) after school on the designated days!

*         Attention Class of 2022! The El Diamante Local Scholarship deadline has been EXTENDED. The deadline to submit your application is now Friday, February 11th, 2022 at 4:00 PM. *         Hello!  We wanted to make you aware that this Saturday, January 29th there will be Saturday Academy on the El D campus from 8:15 AM-12:30 PM.  You can makeup attendance and improve your grades by catching up on missing assignments. We don't have any specific teachers or classes, but you can bring your Chromebook and have an open classroom to turn in missing work on Schoology or Edgenuity. Please email Mr. Abbott (mabbott at vusd.org<mailto:mabbott at vusd.org>) if you are planning to attend. But, if you just decide to show up without sending an email then that's great too. Also, please email Mr. Abbott before Wednesday morning if you would like to order a free lunch. There will be a sign at the front gate telling you which classroom to go to. Please let Mr. Abbott know if you have any questions or concerns. Hope to see you there!

*         Attention Parents: We are hosting our Spring Parent Nights this week via Zoom. Please view the videos available on the El Diamante website at your convenience. These videos will review the upcoming registration process, graduation requirements, A-G requirements, and other important post-graduation information.  We will follow up with a Question and Answer session for parents to get more information. Any questions contact Student Services at 735-3532 or e-mail your student's Learning Director. *         Hello El Diamante Students!  Yearbook wants to include as many people as possible for this year! *         California Lions Clubs are again sponsoring a Student Speaker Contest in February with cash awards and scholarships of up to $10,000. It is open to all students in grades 9-12. The topic is "HOW CAN KINDNESS REUNITE OUR COUNTRY?" This is a wonderful public speaking opportunity to earn money toward higher education by presenting a 10-minute speech at one of the Lions Clubs in Visalia. Amounts of awards begin at $100 and increase up to $10,000. If you are interested or would like to know more, see Mrs. Hatcher in Room 610 who has more information and interest letters that need to be returned by Monday, January 31st in order for you to be contacted by a Visalia Lions Club member. This is a wonderful and exciting opportunity given throughout the state of California. We encourage all students to consider participating in this annual event as they move forward with their education.

*         Attention Students: Walgreens has established an exciting annual arts competition for high school teens in selected US cities - Expressions challenges you to create art that reflects your world and the issues you connect with:  Social Justice, Mental Health, Unity, Equity and more. You can express yourself in video, painting, short stories, poetry -  whatever moves you! The contest begins January 15th and runs through March 31st. Entries are reviewed by judges around the country. There are cash prizes and more for the winners. *         FREE COVID-19 TESTING. Testing available to VUSD students, parents & staff. Cottages open Monday-Thursday from 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM (Lunch from 1-2PM) and Fridays from 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM (Lunch from 11AM-12PM). Testing available: PCR Tests. Results take 2-3 business days. Testing also open to parent/community members to volunteer at VUSD campuses. *         Attention Students: Please remember to bring your fully charged Chromebook to school with you every day.

*         Visalia Unified School District's After-hours Academic Assistance (AAA) will provide after-hours academic support through a virtual platform. This program is available to all VUSD students grades K-12 at no charge, four evenings a week. Homework assistance will be led by certificated VUSD teachers in all grades and mostly all subjects. The AAA program helps students with homework from content previously covered in class. *         Seniors: Grad Nite is Friday, May 13th, 2022. The destination will be Magic Mountain. The cost for Grad Nite is $141, CASH & CREDIT CARD ONLY; tickets will go on sale at 7:30 AM on Monday, March 7th, 2022 - this is the ONLY day you can purchase tickets. The ticket is non-refundable! You will need to line up to purchase your tickets with the people you want to be on the same bus with. There will be NO BUS CHANGES after you purchase your ticket. Students are not permitted on campus to purchase tickets until 7:00 AM - "camping out" is NOT allowed.  In order to purchase your tickets to Grad Nite, you MUST be on track to graduate and eligible for extracurricular activities the week prior to Grad Nite and make sure to clear all fines through the Finance office and the Library. You will NOT be admitted to purchase tickets for Grad Nite without a completed Grad Nite Permission Packet which includes your parent signatures and signatures from the Library and Finance Office. NO EXCEPTIONS. Copies of the Permission Packet will be provided to seniors at the Senior Meeting in February. Afterwards, they will also be available on the EDHS website and in the Offices.
