STUDENT NOTES

TODAY:

*         If you are interested in tennis for the next school year, attend the short informational meeting on TODAY, May 10th at lunch or after school in room 914. If you miss the meetings, see Coach Harding to get info on summer practices and startup. Go Miners!

*         Attention Miners: XL conditioning for Football will take place every week Monday-Thursday at the green turf by the weight room.

*         We now have weightlifting available in the after-school XL Program. We will be weightlifting from 3:30-4:30 PM after school on Tuesday's and Thursday's. If you would like to learn how to weightlift, or would like to utilize our equipment in the weight room, please join Mrs. Panuco (Miss Emerson) after school on the designated days!

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS:

*         Attention Football Players - Spring Football Practice will start on Monday, May 16th, at 3:30 on the Varsity Practice Field. All current Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors that are planning on playing football in the fall are expected to attend. *         Attention Seniors that attended Ridgeview: Ridgeview Middle School will be Celebrating their first Graduating Class! You are invited to enjoy breakfast and visit with your favorite Ridgeview teachers on Monday, May 23rd from 7:30-8:30 AM in the Ridgeview MPR.

*         Attention Seniors: The Visalia Unified School District had adopted the Criteria for the State Seal of Civic Engagement. Students may now earn a seal on their transcript and diploma or Certificate of Completion. A sash will be awarded to wear at their graduation ceremony. To earn the seal, students must demonstrate excellence in:

     *   Civic learning
     *   Participation in civics-related projects
     *   Contributions to their community

An understanding of:

     *   The United State Constitution
     *   The California Constitution
     *   The American Democratic System

*         Visalia Unified School District's After-hours Academic Assistance (AAA) will provide after-hours academic support through a virtual platform. This program is available to all VUSD students grades K-12 at no charge, four evenings a week. Homework assistance will be led by certificated VUSD teachers in all grades and mostly all subjects. The AAA program helps students with homework from content previously covered in class. *         Attention Miners! College of the Sequoias is partnering with Reedley College, Porterville College, and West Hills College Lemoore to offer the Jump Start Internship this summer. From July 5th - July 28th, students who are interested in industrial careers, will have training in electrical, OSHA safety, exposure to industrial technology careers, industry tours of local manufacturers, and more. Upon completion of the internship, students will receive $1,500. High School juniors (incoming seniors) are encouraged to apply for the internship. Once you have committed to the college/university you will be attending Fall 2022, please fill out the request form (only 1 response will be accepted). You must include the COMPLETE MAILING ADDRESS for the college/university you will be attending. Final transcripts will be mailed out the week of June 13, 2022 after 2nd semester grades have posted.

*         Seniors Attending Grad Nite:  As a reminder, you must attend all of your classes on Friday, May 13th in order to be eligible to attend Grad Nite. *         Attention Seniors! Commencement Dress Code: Staff will check for appropriate attire before being allowed into the LJ Williams theatre graduation night. Men: Dress shirt, tie, dress shoes, dress slacks -- no denims or Levi's. Women: Dress or dressy pants, dress shoes. No flip flops, Birkenstocks, tennis shoes, shorts, sunglasses or other distractive accessories. No alterations to gown are allowed! We will all wear our gowns as they come out of the box to preserve the dignity of the event.

     *   Seniors: Reminder that graduation practice is Friday, June 3rd at 8 AM at the Mineral King Stadium. Please bring a pen or pencil. Practice is mandatory. Don't be late! Please remember, if you are planning on walking you must attend practice. Students not at the practice will not be allowed to participate in the event. You must also have all student fines and obligations taken care of to participate in the Commencement ceremony. No alterations to gowns are allowed and alternations to cap must be preapproved by Mrs. Calvero. Last day for cap approval is Friday, May 20th. Please pay close attention to the parking restrictions around the Bowl when attending graduation practice and the ceremony. Violators presenting safety hazards and not adhering to the parking restrictions could be cited and/or towed. *If you have any questions call Mrs. Calvero at 735-3502.

*         Hello! The El Diamante Girls Golf team is looking for players for next year. My name is Mr. Abbott, and I am the Girls Golf coach. Every year we get brand new players, and we will teach you everything you need to know. We can also provide golf clubs, golf balls, everything you need. There will be an informational meeting at the beginning of lunch TOMORROW, May 11th in room 603.

*         Any girls interested in trying out for volleyball next year, and have not already received summer information, please go see Coach Clyburne in room 368 as soon as possible.
