Good Morning Green Acres!

8th grade students:  If you are interested in presenting the student speech at the Promotion Assembly, see your English teacher for a rubric.  We will have the speech auditions take place on Thursday, May 17 after school.  Your speech should be approximately two minutes long and what you decide to talk about is up to you.  We look forward to hearing from you and your words.

Leadership:

This Friday, May 4th, we are having an open mic lunch. Come up on stage and show off your amazing performing skills, and the best performance will win a prize. So come on out and show off your skills. You can sing, tell jokes, and play an instrument, dance- its open mic lunch! Let's see what Chargers can do!

Student's leadership will be holding a singing competition to determine who will be singing a duet with Ms. Aguirre in the Memorial Day Assembly. Try-outs will be on May 8th during both lunches. The winner will be announced on May 10th in our weekly broadcast. For their audition students will be singing Star Spangled Banner. Who wants to be Charger Famous and sing with the ultra-talented Ms. Aguirre? Try-outs are May 8th! Start practicing!

(The singing competition will run through Tues. May 8th)

Upcoming events:

Charger Scavenger Hunt and Charger Games are coming for us to have some fun in May and enjoy the rest of the year! Look out for details!

ATTENTION STUDENTS:
There are currently 263 students with overdue or lost books from the Green Acres library. Please get these books turned in so you will not have library issues at the end of the school year.  THANKS, Mrs. Yoshida

Rules to follow:
Students:  School staff will check for dress code every day throughout the whole day.  DO NOT wear inappropriate clothing.  When in doubt about an item, see an administrator.

Sports:

Track uniforms need to be turned in to Mrs. Freitas in order to receive your invitation to our team party. Please do this before Friday May 4th. (4/30-5/4)

To: GAMS Faculty/staff and families:
We are collecting pictures of family members that have or are currently serving in US armed forces for our annual Memorial Day assembly and commemorative slideshow. Please email your picture to Mrs. Gibson (email on the website / teachers). If you would like to send a picture with your student, please write the name of the service member along with the student's name on the back of the photograph and we will return it. Please send pictures by May 14th.

Yearbook:
To 8th grade parents and students: yearbook is asking for your student's baby picture for the end of the year 8th grade slideshow. We would love to have a picture of every 8th grade student. Please send your picture to Mrs. Gibson in room 43 or even better email the picture to Mrs. Gibson (email is on the school website under teachers). Please send your picture in by April 30th. When sending a photo please have student name and phone number on the back or it will not be returned. Thank you, GAMS Yearbook staff!

Saturday University:
Students Saturday University provides enrichment, intervention, and standards recovery for History, Language Arts, Science, Technology, Sports, Arts, Math and Clubs. By attending and participating you will be eligible to recover one full day of absence and help raise your grades. Remember students to sign up outside room 15.  We only have a few Saturday University days left, the next Saturday University for the month of May will be on 5/5, 5/12 and 5/19.

COC:
Christians on campus meeting on campus Wednesday 1st Lunch Mrs. Bailey Rm 4 and 2nd lunch Rm 43 bring a friend.

Charger Café:

Reimburse Meals are available to All Students at Green Acres M/S during Breakfast & Lunch!
Students, please ask your parents/guardian to put money on your account online-www.MySchoolBucks.com

Some cafeteria tips for faster service:
a.        Memorize your student ID number and say your Full name for Breakfast and at Lunch-DO NOT SHARE IT!!
b.        Students-Please have your Money out of your backpacks, Wallets and Be Prepared with what you would like to order in the Ala Carte' Line.
c.        When you finish eating, clean up your trash and place plastic bottles & aluminum cans in green recycling containers.
d.        Students will be dismissed by tables when their trash and table are completely clean.
e.        No food will be allowed in the picnic area or anywhere on the main campus.
f.         Express line at the Murphy Center is only for combos, hot food and sandwiches. No a 'la cart!
