In order to register for Sat University, please add yourself to the appropriate Google Classroom grade:

Remember - you need to register by the Tuesday before the SU if you want to GUARANTEE LUNCH!!!

All seniors will be sent to the mini gym TODAY, Thursday, October 12th. Your 2nd period teacher will release you near the end of class.  The meeting is scheduled to give seniors Cap and Gown order information.

MOONLIGHT HARVEST TICKETS GO ON SALE STARTING MONDAY, OCTOBER 9 - Moonlight Harvest is Saturday, October 14 from 8:00 - 11:00 PM at EL DIAMANTE HIGH SCHOOL.  Tickets are single sale tickets which means 1 ticket = 1 person admitted to the dance.  Prices are $15 with an ASB Sticker, $25 without an ASB Sticker, $35 at the door.  Tickets are available in the Finance Office before school, during lunch, and after school.  IMPORTANT - YOU MUST HAVE A DANCE CONTRACT SIGNED BY A PARENT AND YOU BEFORE YOU CAN PURCHASE A TICKET.  DANCE CONTRACTS ARE AVAILABLE IN THE FINANCE OFFICE.
Fall Sing - Concert Under The Stars is coming Tuesday, October 17 GW Choirs and Soloists. More information to come.

GW Decals are available to order through the PTA. Pick up an order form in the front office. What a great way to show your Blazer Pride!

Musical Auditions are rapidly approaching! If you are interested in auditioning for the school musical or want to work behind the scenes there is a MANDATORY meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 18th in room M-1 during lunch. You must attend this meeting if you want to be a part of the school musical. The musical this year is Disney's The Little Mermaid. For questions or concerns please contact Mr. Anders in M-1 before school or by email randers at vusd.org<mailto:randers at vusd.org>. Look forward to seeing all of you there!

ATTENTION ALL PARENTS AND STUDENTS: Students are not allowed to walk through the Visalia Adult School Parking Lot or Campus. Parents please do not pick up students at the Visalia Adult School. Students may be sited for trespassing or loitering.

GRAD NITE TICKETS will go on sale in the month of February 2018.  The cost will be $195.
Golden West FFA Alumni will be hosting their 2nd Annual Harvest Moonshine Dinner & Dance. Saturday, October 21, 2017 @ Ritchie Barn, Visalia, starting at 5:30 p.m. Tickets for the event are $40, which includes a New York Steak Dinner. We are pleased to announce that registration for our 2017 Expanding Your Horizons Girls' Conference has been extended to this Friday, October 13th. All registrations must be complete with student names, grade levels and chaperone information in order for it to be confirmed and for students to be scheduled. Please see the attached flyer with addition information.

ATTN SENIORS PLANNING ON ATTENDING A California State University (CSU)
The CSU Application Workshop will be held Weds., Oct. 18, 2017. You must apply now for Fall of 2018.   If you indicated in your "Post Grad Plans" that you plan to attend a CSU, then you are already signed up for it, and a pass will be sent for you on that day.  Stop by the counseling office to confirm that your name is on the workshop list.  If not, please see Mrs. McIntosh to sign up.
In addition to this Workshop, there will be another one, Oct. 25, 2017 at our Visalia Unified District Office (5000 W. Cypress St.)  in Room 10 of the Learning Center at 6 p.m.
Now is also the time to look for "Campus Preview Days" as all of the CSU have special Open House Events to help make your final decision on which campus you are going to choose! Check out https://www2.calstate.edu/apply/choosing-a-campus/pages/campus-preview-days-fall.aspx for dates and times!

Are you a sophomore that is interesting in being a leader for Golden West?  We are looking for nominees for HOBY - a state leadership seminar held during the summer.  The school will pay for two-three students to attend the 3-4 day seminar and participate in hands-on leadership activities, meet leaders in the state, and explore their own personal leadership skills while learning how to lead others and make a positive impact in our community.  The students will represent GWHS so we want to select a student with strong leadership potential to attend.  If you believe you would be a good candidate then please see Mrs. McIntosh in the counseling office to nominate yourself by 10/18.  We will then hold interviews for the students who are interested in attending.

ATTN SENIORS: The 2018-19 College of the Sequoias Scholarship Application is now available!  By filling out this one application you are open to hundreds of scholarships opportunities at COS.  COS gave over $400,000 in scholarships last year. Don't miss out!!  See the Golden West Scholarship page to apply.  The application deadline is November 27, 2017.
A representative from CSU Stanislaus will be on campus, Friday, October 20, 2017 during 5th period in P-21.  Have your questions answered & learn more about CSU Stanislaus: Majors, Financial Aid, and job placement and careers, California State University, Stanislaus serves a diverse student body of more than 9,000 students and is widely recognized for its dedicated faculty and high-quality academic programs and is rated as one of the "Best Value Colleges" in California.  Sign up in the Counseling department presentation binder to attend.

US Academy Night: Academy Night is approaching. Academy night will provide students and parents with information on the appointment and nomination process for those students interested in attending a United States Service academy (Air Force, Merchant Marine, Army, or Naval academies). The event is hosted by Congressman Devin Nunes, and will be held Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the Clovis Unified School District Professional Development Building (1680 David E. Cook Way, Clovis, CA). To RSVP please complete and return the RSVP form, which is located in the GWHS Counseling Office, Presentation Binder, by October 13th, 2017.

Seniors:  The Comcast Scholarship Application is now open.  Students must email Ms. Waters (counselor) in order to gain access to the application, which will be completed online via a Google Classroom format.   Applicants must meet the following criteria: minimum 2.8 GPA, demonstrate leadership abilities in school activities or through work experiences, strong commitment to and involvement in community service, and plan to attend an accredited college. One GWHS student will be selected for this $1,000 scholarship. The application includes (1) Demographic information, (2) activity record, and (3) one-page essay.  The deadline to submit the application is 10/20/17 at 3:30 PM. Late applications will NOT be accepted. If you have any additional question please see Ms. Waters in the Counseling Office.

Clubs:

Anime Club launches with 50 student members. Due to the high amount of interest are extending our club days to every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at lunch. Still interested in joining? Stop on by S-1 and join the fun.

Come check out and be part of The Native American (Indian) Club. Next meeting Tuesday October 17 at lunch room FS7.
