Parents and Students:
The Golden West Orchestra would like to invite you to the annual combined high school orchestra concert. This concert has been going on for at least 21 years and continues to be a growing tradition. The concert has both intermediate and advanced orchestras from all four high schools. Each year seniors may audition to play a solo with the chamber orchestra and this year our very own Ashlie Dixon will be performing "Vocalise" by Rachmoninoff.
The details are as follow:

Price: $7 tickets can be bought through me or at the door. If you are interested in tickets please reply to this email.

GW Decals are available to order through the PTA. Pick up an order form in the front office. What a great way to show your Blazer Pride!

ATTENTION ALL PARENTS AND STUDENTS: Students are not allowed to walk through the Visalia Adult School Parking Lot or Campus. Parents please do not pick up students at the Visalia Adult School. Students may be sited for trespassing or loitering.

Golden West FFA Alumni will be hosting their 2nd Annual Harvest Moonshine Dinner & Dance. Saturday, October 21, 2017 @ Ritchie Barn, Visalia, starting at 5:30 p.m. Tickets for the event are $40, which includes a New York Steak Dinner. For tickets, contact Pam Gruber at 731-9317 or pamelagruber at aol.com<mailto:pamelagruber at aol.com>  (Please note:  this is a 21 year or over event).

Athletics:

Girls Basketball: Girls interested in playing basketball should come by FS -1 before school. If you are not in another sport at the moment you need to come by and get a schedule. Tryouts begin on the 30th

GIRLS SOCCER: Practices have started. If you are not in a fall sport, you should be kicking with us. Mon-Thurs 5pm. Stay informed with Remind: @gwgirlss .

Counseling Dept.:
ATTN SENIORS PLANNING ON ATTENDING A California State University (CSU):
If you missed the CSU workshop you can still get help in the XL after school program.  Our College & Career Ambassador, Angela Santana is available after school in the library.  Application deadline is Nov. 30, 2017 for fall of 2018.
In addition to this Workshop, there will be another one, Oct. 25, 2017 at our Visalia Unified District Office (5000 W. Cypress St) in Room 10 of the Learning Center at 6 p.m.
Now is also the time to look for "Campus Preview Days" as all of the CSU have special Open House Events to help make your final decision on which campus you are going to choose! Check out https://www2.calstate.edu/apply/choosing-a-campus/pages/campus-preview-days-fall.aspx for dates and times!
The COS Application Workshop will be Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017. You must apply now to COS for fall of 2018.   If you indicated in your "Post Grad Plans" that you plan to attend COS, then you are already signed up for it, and a pass will be sent for you on that day.  Stop by the counseling office to confirm that your name is on the workshop list.  If not, please see Mrs. McIntosh to sign up.
ATTN SENIORS: The 2018-19 College of the Sequoias Scholarship Application is now available!  By filling out this one application you are open to hundreds of scholarships opportunities at COS.  COS gave over $400,000 in scholarships last year. Don't miss out!!  See the Golden West Scholarship page to apply.  The application deadline is November 27, 2017.
A representative from CSU Stanislaus will be on campus, TODAY, Friday, October 20, 2017 during 5th period in P-21.  Have your questions answered & learn more about CSU Stanislaus: Majors, Financial Aid, and job placement and careers, California State University, Stanislaus serves a diverse student body of more than 9,000 students and is widely recognized for its dedicated faculty and high-quality academic programs and is rated as one of the "Best Value Colleges" in California.  Sign up in the Counseling department presentation binder to attend.

Seniors:  The Comcast Scholarship Application is now open.  Students must email Ms. Waters (counselor) in order to gain access to the application, which will be completed online via a Google Classroom format.   Applicants must meet the following criteria: minimum 2.8 GPA, demonstrate leadership abilities in school activities or through work experiences, strong commitment to and involvement in community service, and plan to attend an accredited college. One GWHS student will be selected for this $1,000 scholarship. The application includes (1) Demographic information, (2) activity record, and (3) one-page essay.  The deadline to submit the application is 10/20/17 at 3:30 PM. Late applications will NOT be accepted. If you have any additional question please see Ms. Waters in the Counseling Office.

GRAD NITE TICKETS will go on sale in the month of February 2018.  The cost will be $195.

Clubs:

Are you wondering what to do for lunch???  Come to FCA Thursdays! Grab a friend or two, head over to room A-1 and let us treat you to lunch. You be well fed, as well as, encouraged and challenged in your faith.

GSA Members: There is an event at The Source, a meeting place for LBGT youth and allies this Saturday at 1pm. Club meeting is this Thursday to see who is going and to plan upcoming events. New members always welcome!
Meeting is Thursday at lunch in A-9. See Mrs. K in A-9 for more information.

Women of Excellence: Our meetings have changed from Wednesdays to Tuesdays during lunch in A-9. See Mrs. K in A-9 if you have any questions.

Anime Club is meeting every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in S-1 (lunch). You do not need to attend all three days to be a member. Grab you lunch and join the fun!
