ATTENTION ALL PARENTS AND STUDENTS: Students are not allowed to walk through the Visalia Adult School Parking Lot or Campus. Parents please do not pick up students at the Visalia Adult School. Students may be sited for trespassing or loitering.

GRAD NITE TICKETS will go on sale in the month of February 2018.  The cost will be $195.
Seniors, if you took your senior portrait here during the summer, Mrs. Hunter in the finance office may have your student I.D.  Come see her before/after school or at lunch.
Pictures are in! Students may pick up pictures throughout the day between classes, during lunch or after school. Please pick them up at the attendance desk.
Dress Code: please be advised that dress code will be strictly enforced.  Please refer to the student conduct code handbook for the dress code policy.

Counseling Dept.:
PSAT - The PSAT is a practice test for the SAT.  Students who are planning on going directly to a 4-year university after high school should take this practice exam.  It is available for juniors, sophomores, and freshmen.  The actual exam will be administered on Wednesday, Oct. 11 from 7:45 am - 12pm.  The cost of the exam is $16.  Mrs. Hunter will start taking payments to sign up for the exam on Monday, September 25 during lunch at the finance window.  Starting Tuesday, September 26 she will take payments before school, at lunch, and after school and will accept cash and checks.  Checks should be made out to Golden West High School.  The tests will be sold on a first come, first serve basis and we only have a limited number of exams.  Last year we sold out in 2 days so please come early if you want to take the PSAT.  Fee waivers are available for JUNIORS only.  Juniors who qualify for the fee waiver and can take the test for FREE.  Please see Mrs. Shaewitz in the counseling office for a fee waiver starting Monday, September 25 during lunch.  If you have any questions regarding the PSAT, please see Mrs. Shaewitz.
Seniors:  The Comcast Scholarship Application is now open.  Students must email Ms. Waters (counselor) in order to gain access to the application, which will be completed online via a Google Classroom format.   Applicants must meet the following criteria: minimum 2.8 GPA, demonstrate leadership abilities in school activities or through work experiences, strong commitment to and involvement in community service, and plan to attend an accredited college. One GWHS student will be selected for this $1,000 scholarship. The application includes (1) Demographic information, (2) activity record, and (3) one-page essay.  The deadline to submit the application is 10/20/17 at 3:30 PM. Late applications will NOT be accepted. If you have any additional question please see Ms. Waters in the Counseling Office.
A LEAD representative will be on campus, Monday Sept. 25 at lunch in P-21 to share about the LEAD program. #LEAD helps youth develop skills in communication, public speaking, character building.  At the end of the program #LEAD offers a summer internship with 240-hour paid work experience, working with local community professionals.  The Visalia cohort will meet twice a month at College of the Sequoias.   Sign up in the Counseling Office "Presentation Binder" if you are interested in attending the information meeting.

ATTN SENIORS:  The Fresno State Ambassador will be available EVERY Wednesday from 9:30 am to 1:45 p.m. in the Career Center for those students interested in attending Fresno State.  Her name is Pakou Thao. Please sign up in the "Presentation Binder" in the Counseling Dept. if you would like to meet.
Clubs:
First Native American Indian Club meeting set for TODAY, Tuesday at lunch room FS7. All GW students invited be part of starting something great!

Blazer Buddies Club meeting this Wednesday during lunch in P4. Bring your lunch.


Chinese Culture Club first meeting will be on this Friday 9/22 at lunch in room FS-8.  All GW students are invited to come and have fun!

Women of Excellence and GSA club members: Since most of you are in both clubs, we will combine meetings and activity for Homecoming this week. The official meeting is Thursday during lunch in A-9. but, we will be working on booth decorations all week during lunch and after school in A-9. See you and make sure to dress up!

Athletics:

Wrestling! Boys & Girls (fall) Pre-Season Conditioning will begin for those interested, that are not participating in a winter sport should come out and workout. You must be cleared to participate. Practice started Monday September 18, @ 4pm. Report to Mini Gym. Pre-Season workouts will be Monday- Wednesday. If you have any question contact Coach Sanchez (209)613-4856.
Boys Basketball Fall practice began Tuesday September 12th at 3:30 pm in the main gym. Any non-Fall sport athlete is welcome to come.

Athletic Clearance: Golden West is now offering online student - athletic clearance through Family ID.  This is a secure and user friendly way to register for our athletic clearance.  All information can be found on the Golden West website .....trailblazerathletics.com then click on Student Athletic Clearance tab.   This form of clearance will now be mandatory along with a current physical.
XL Program:

ProYouth XL/SEED  - Students Empowered by Exposure to Diversity - would like to extend an invitation to all our students interested in going to the Maya Cinemas at Fresno. (Transportation and movie concession is provided by the school district and ProYouth). We are watching "Dolores" a Documentary based in Dolores Huerta who is among the most important, yet least known, activists in American history. An equal partner in co-founding the first Farm Workers Unions with Cesar Chavez, her enormous contributions have gone largely unrecognized. Dolores tirelessly led the fight for racial and labor justice alongside Chavez. Becoming one of the most defiant feminists of the twentieth century and she continues the fight to this day, at age 87."  - Go to your XL office to get more information regarding the fieldtrip and to pick up a permission slip.
The Golden West ProYouth XL Team is currently looking for students that would like to be Student Tutors!  This is a paid position through XL and students must fill out an application which can be picked up in Room E-10.  Minimum qualifications are:  Cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher, an A or B in the course they wish to tutor, good communication skills, and preference will be given to upperclassmen.  All applicants must fill out an XL application that includes two teacher recommendation forms.
