The Golden West High School Choirs are presenting SACRED & PROFANE - their annual Classics Concert on February 27 in preparation for their upcoming California Music Educators Association Choral Festivals. This concert will feature the five GW Choirs and student soloists presenting outstanding poetry set to music. Come hear the choirs and soloists Zach Glasgow, Caleb Bolin, Jacob Plaugher, Micaiah Cabasa, Valeria Cabrera, Jillian Lambert, Hannah Polk, and Marian Williams. Tickets are $5 Special performance of Please Stay #IKeptLiving.

Saturday University is back. Please be sure to register as soon as possible to attend this coming Saturday, February 24th. Check google classroom for more dates!

Please be aware that we will start with Tardy Sweeps immediately.  In order to avoid after school detention due to being caught in a tardy sweep please make sure that you are in your classroom prior to the tardy bell ringing.

Attention Seniors!!!  GRAD NITE UPDATE: Last day to purchase tickets is March 9th at the Finance Office.  Seats are limited.  Tickets are $190; cash or checks made payable to Golden West High School. Permission slips are available in front of the finance office and both sides must be completed, including medical info and parent signature! Bring your student ID, completed permission slip, and money to purchase a ticket.

ATTN SENIORS - SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES about to EXPIRE:

Visalia Optimist Oratorical Contest will award up to $22,500 an is encouraging area students to speak their minds about the topic "Where Are My Roots of Optimism?" as part of the Optimist International Oratorical Contest for 2017-18 school year. The contest is open to students under the age of 18 as of October 1, 2017. For further details and to apply please visit the Golden West Scholarship webpage. Due date is February 23, 2018.


Visalia Education Foundation Scholarship Application is now available. The Foundation awards over $50,000 in scholarships to Visalia Unified School District High School seniors each year. By filling out this one application you may qualify for up to 22 different scholarships. See the Golden West Scholarship web page for more information and to apply.  Applications are Due to Visalia Unified District Office by 5 p.m., Friday March 9, 2018.


Counseling Dept:

Attention Class of 2018! If you are a senior planning to attend College of the Sequoias next year, please stop by the counseling department, to explore the COS Career Technical Education Look Book. You can come find information about COS CTE Degrees and Certificates. There is a sign-up sheet in the Presentation binder for you to list your name and major. There's even a chance to be recognized by COS during National CTE Month in February. Please stop by before Friday, March 2.

The ASVAB test will be March 7, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is the most widely used multiple aptitude battery in the world. If you are curious about your future career choice or interested in the military, take advantage of everything the ASVAB Career Exploration Program has to offer and sign up to test! Whether you are a planning to go to college, a vocational school, the military, OR, if you are just not sure what you want to do yet, the ASVAB Career Exploration Program can provide you with important information about your skills, abilities, and interests - AND help set you on the right course for a satisfying career! Sign up in the "Presentation Binder" in the Counseling Office to test.

ATTN: JUNIORS & SENIORS ONLY:  A representative from California Aeronautical University (CAU), Bakersfield will be on campus, Friday, March 2, 2018, during lunch in B-1.  CAU is training the next generation of pilots and aviation professional and wants you to be a part of it! Airlines around the world are facing a growing shortage and CAU offers a pathway for students to enter the aviation profession. CAU offers FAA approved courses in preparing you to not only become a professional pilot, but also aviation maintenance, dispatch, administration and more!  Pizza will be provided, while it lasts.  Please sign up in the Counseling Dept. Presentation binder to reserve your spot.

AP students and parents: Please refer to the AP documents for information regarding the fees, dates, and deadlines for 2017 AP exams. https://www.vusd.org/Page/12318 You may also obtain forms for Fee Waivers and/or your one free AP exam provided by VUSD.  We also accept payments via credit card online at the GW webstore!  (http://webstores.activenetwork.com/school-software/golden_west_high_sch/).  March 2nd is the absolute last day to pay for AP Exams!

Clubs:

FCA: FCA Thursdays! Grab a friend or two then head on over to room A-1.

Blazer Buddies meet every Wednesday during lunch in P-4. New members are   welcome!

Anime Club: We will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch. Join up in S-1.

GSA Club: GSA club meets every Thursday during lunch in A-9. New members always welcome!

XL Program:

XL has Afterschool Intervention available every Wednesday and Thursday in E-10 from 3:30-4PM for students who have detention that needs to be served.

Does helping others and your community appeal to you? Some of our activities include hospital visits to visit sick children, feeding the homeless at local shelters, cleaning up Visalia by gathering trash around downtown and removing graffiti. We even have fun field trips planned for Quantum Leap and Clay Cafe. We want to create mentors for the incoming middle schoolers by joining in and hanging out with them as friends and peers. If you think you would be interested in any of the activities listed then please visit the XL program in room E- 10 to learn more about our Youth Council.

It's coming this spring!!! Mr. Rodgers will once again be offering his EMS/Health Careers XL Class!  Start date is March 1st, so plan ahead as this class fills quickly...field trips and guest speakers!!!  Check out the tentative schedule at:  http://bit.ly/emss2018
