Fall Sing - Under the Stars, "Tunes, Tacos & Treats" - October 24th @ 7pm.  Concert is FREE - Everyone is invited. Tacos Galacticos will be selling tacos beginning at 6pm, $1.50 per taco. Bake sale also begins @ 6pm. Come early and save your spot on the lawn with your chairs and blankets.

As of now students must have a valid GW student ID card to be allowed off campus during lunch.
Attention all students regarding TARDIES: If you have 4 or more tardies in one week you will lose off campus lunch privileges or be assigned lunch detention. To avoid these restrictions, please work to be ON TIME TO CLASS!

Failure to attend assigned Tardy Detention will result in loss of privileges. Example: Rallies, and extracurricular such as attending athletic events.

Retake pictures are in! Come into the attendance office before school during lunch and after school to pick them up.

The Golden West baseball program is once again selling Christmas trees and wreaths!  Simply fill out the attached order form and return it with payment to Brent Hall here at GW.  All orders must be in by November 2.  Tree and wreath pick up will be Saturday, December 1 at the Varsity baseball field.

1. The Golden West One Acts are rapidly approaching! "A Night of Full Sends" will be performing Wednesday Oct. 17th, 19th and 20th at the Rotary Theatre at 7:30pm and 2pm. Tickets are $5 for Students and $8 for adults and can be purchased in the Finance Office starting Oct. 8th before school, after school and during lunch. Come on out and support the Drama Program! 2. The Golden West Musical Auditions for 'Singin' In the Rain' are coming up soon! If you are interested in auditioning OR crewing, there will be a MANDATORY meeting Wednesday Oct. 31st at lunch in M-1. Please bring your lunch as the meeting will most likely take all of the lunch period. If you do not attend this meeting you may not be considered for auditions or for crew. Black Students Leadership Forum: Saturday, October 20th from 9am - 2pm at the Clovis Community College. Cost is $5 per person.

Seniors: On Friday, October 19th, Jostens returns to collect the cap and gown order forms from seniors during their Civic/Econ classes. For the seniors who don't have a Civic/Econ class, they will be sent by their teacher during first period.

Counseling:

The Fresno State Ambassador will be available EVERY OTHER Thursday from 8:30 am to 3:00 p.m. in the Career Center for those students interested in attending Fresno State or any other CSU.  Her name is Liliana. Please sign up in the "Presentation Binder" in the Counseling Dept. if you would like to meet.

ATTN SENIORS PLANNING ON ATTENDING COS:  The 2019-2020 College of the Sequoias SCHOLARSHIP Application is now available!
This one, online application matches students to hundreds of scholarship opportunities. The application DEADLINE is November 26, 2018.
To Apply visit the Golden West Scholarship website and follow the link instructions.  Because this one application matches students to hundreds of scholarships this is an important application to complete.  DON¹T MISS OUT!

Academy Night is approaching. Academy night will provide students and parents with information on the appointment and nomination process for those students interested in attending a United States Service academy (Air Force, Merchant Marine, Army, or Naval academies). The event is hosted by Congressman Devin Nunes, and will be held Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the Clovis Unified School District Professional Development Building (1680 David E. Cook Way, Clovis, CA). To RSVP please complete and return the RSVP form, which is located on the Counseling Dept. scholarship webpage or see Mrs. McIntosh in the Counseling Dept., by October 13th, 2018.

A representative from California Aeronautical University (CAU), Bakersfield will be on campus, Wed., October 24, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. in the Career Center.  CAU is training the next generation of pilots and aviation professional and wants you to be a part of it! Airlines around the world are facing a growing shortage and CAU offers a pathway for students to enter the aviation profession. CAU offers FAA approved courses in preparing you to not only become a professional pilot, but also aviation maintenance, dispatch, administration and more!   Please sign up in the Counseling Dept. Presentation binder to reserve your spot.

ATTN 9th -12 GRADE GIRLS - The Soroptimist International of Visalia invites you to participate in the DREAM IT, BE IT Career support program.  The Dream it, Be It program can help you plan your future.  By participating in this program you will learn about career opportunities, setting and achieving goals, overcoming obstacles to success, and moving forward after setbacks. The program is limited to the first 50 girls to sign up.  The next meeting is Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018 at the 210 Café, 210 W. Center St., Visalia.  More information is located in the Counseling Dept. Presentation Binder.

Athletics:

Boys' Basketball- tryouts will begin on Monday, October 29th.  Freshmen will be in the Main Gym from 3:40-5:10; JV will be in the Mini Gym from 6:00-8:00 and Varsity will be in the Main Gym from 6:00-8:00PM. All boys interested in playing basketball this season need to attend. Tryouts will be held Monday-Thursday.

Girls' Basketball - Girls that are trying out for basketball need to be cleared and in the gym practicing on the dates and times posted.
Come by FS - 3 if you have any questions. Practices are at the following dates and times.  All returning players that are not in a current sport are expected to attend.

10/17 3:30- 4:30 Wednesday Mini
10/23 3:30-4:30 Tuesday Mini
10/24 3:30-4:30 Wednesday Mini
10/29 & 30 Monday & Tuesday     3:40-5:00 Frosh & JV Varsity 5-6:15     Main

Clubs:

Diversity Club members: We meet this week on Tuesday and Thursday during lunch. There are some important events coming up and you need to be here to participate. Meeting starts promptly at 12:50 pm both day and meets in A-9, Mrs. K's classroom. See you there and new members are always welcome!

XL Program:

Golden West Pro Youth XL Program will be taking students on a College Campus Tour of USC (University of Southern California) and the Museum of Tolerance on Tuesday October 30th, 2018!  This trip is free and is open to all students who meet minimum academic requirements - space will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. There will be a mandatory meeting for the USC trip on Tuesday October 23nd, 2018 in the GWHS Library.  The meeting will be at 3:30 pm and students must have turned in a permission slip to attend.  To be considered to go on the trip, attendance to this meeting is mandatory. Hip-Hop Dance is happening on Wednesdays and Thursdays in the dance room from 3:30-5:30 pm.

Boxing on Mondays and Tuesdays in P-29 near the stadium from 3:30-5:30 pm.

Math Tutorials every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in Mr. Lopez's room P-14.

Mr. Elsharkawy in room S-5 will tutor Chemistry and Physics on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Sports Medicine on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the Trainer's room from 3:30-5:30 pm.

Mark your calendars: We have PM Weightlifting, on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 pm with Mr. Decosta.
