Good morning Explorers, let's remember to have La Joya PRIDE in everything we do!

STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS
*  Students and parents - please plan to join us for our Back to School Night on Thursday, August 24th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.  This is a great opportunity for parents to meet your student's teachers, join PTSA, vote for our School Site Council representatives, and much more.
*The next PTSA meeting will be Tuesday, August 22nd from 5:30 to 6:30pm in Room LM3.
*Attention 8th graders!  Do you qualify for CJSF?  Check with your English teacher to see if you qualify for this prestigious status!  Sign-ups will begin this Thursday before and after school and end on Tuesday, August 22nd!  Bring your report card from last year and one dollar to Mrs. Gibson in room 101 or Mrs. Allen in room 503!
*If you are interested in being a cafeteria aide, please speak with Mrs. Mcleroy in the cafeteria between classes.  Students who are in 7th grade would help during 2nd lunch, and the 8th grade students would help during 1st lunch.

* Athletics is selling pizza on Friday, $2 a slice and $1 for a water.

*If you have a missing class period or two classes that are the exact same, then please report to the 7th or 8th grade pods across from the library to report this.  Schedule change requests for a different elective will be available at a later date.
*School picture day is Friday, August 18th.  All students will have their picture taken during their PE class.  Remember the dress code still applies and to wear your best smile!
*Safety is important!!!  When both coming and leaving school, students need to walk on the sidewalks and in the cross walks only.  Please do not walk or ride in the parking lot or streets.  If you are riding a skateboard, bike, or other device; please use caution and wear your helmet.  You will be cited by Visalia Police Department if you do not.
*As a reminder, please walk on the sidewalks while on campus.  This will help keep the grass and our campus looking its best.
*Schedule Change Requests
 Schedule change request forms are now available in the Pathfinder, Magellan or Front Office.  If you would like to request a different elective or some other change, please fill one out and return it to the front office no later than Monday, Aug. 21st.  Changes are not guaranteed, so you should follow your original schedule unless called into the office and given a new schedule.
*       Dress Code Reminder
Just a quick reminder about the Dress Code.  The Visalia Unified School District Student Conduct Code for grades 7-12 reads as follows:  Clothes shall be worn as intended and be sufficient to conceal undergarments which shall be worn and covered at all times.  See-through or fish-net fabrics, halter tops, tube tops, spaghetti straps, off-the shoulder and low-cut tops are not acceptable.  Other types of dress that expose bare midriffs or cleavage are prohibited.  Basketball jersey style tank tops with scooped front, back and armholes are only allowed if worn with a T-shirt with sleeves.  Shirts with cut-off sleeves are not allowed.
* PE will be selling P.E. clothes during class on Thursday, August 17th and Monday, August 21st. Cost is $10 for the shirt, $10 for the shorts and can be paid for with cash, money order or check made out to La Joya.

SPorTs ANNOUNCEMENTS
* Fall Athletic Try-outs will begin on August 21st.  If you plan on playing Football, Volleyball or Cross Country, please complete the FamilyID registration form on FamilyID.com.  For further questions, please see Coach Henderson in the Boys P.E. Department.  Athletic try-out dates are as follows: Football and Volleyball try-outs start Aug 21st; Cross Country will hold their first practice on Monday, August 28th, so please come dressed and ready to run.  Practice will be from 3:20 to 4:30.   Thanks, Coach Hefner and Coach Beggs
