Sports ANNOUNCEMENTS The La Joya Junior Varsity Softball Team defeated JFK on Monday. The Lady Explorers were led by Pitcher Karlie Bilbrey who pitched a complete game. Offensive standouts were Ryleigh Rush (3 hits); Bilbrey, Ariana Ruiz, Emilie Lopez, and Alyssa Lackey (2), Jazilyn Vargas and LisaMarie Rendon (1). Defensive standouts were Vargas and Bilbrey. The Varsity Softball team started the game against JFK with a 9 run first inning. This was started by Aaleyah Pineda hitting her first homerun every for La Joya and Destiny Espino finishing the game with 2 run homerun. The final score of the game was 14-0. The team had a great day at the plate with 16 hits. The following players had hits in the game: Aaleyah (2 hits, 1 HR), Laine Garcia (3 hits), Maya Bivens (2 hits), Bella Amaro (1 hit), Anisah Beavers (1 hit), Madison Chamalbide (2 hits), Brianna Garcia (1 hit), and Destiny (2 hits, 1 HR). Take the time to meet with your teachers to make up any missing or low scoring assignments. * El Diamante Dance Team Attention 8th grade students, if you are interested in taking dance next year at El Diamante, and want to be placed in a class higher than Introduction to Dance, you will need to attend one workshop as well as auditions next week. Workshops were held earlier this week. You are required to have attended one workshop in order to audition today, Thursday, March 30th starting at 6:00pm. Dance packets are due at time of audition. Students need to wear solid color dance attire, tan or black jazz shoes, and hair secured out of the face. Students who are interested in Introduction to Dance may sign up with their counselor - no audition necessary. Students will be placed in one of the following classes - Introduction to Dance, Intermediate, Advanced or Performance (In Motion Dance Team). * Make a Wish Thank you everyone that has made a wish. All students will receive a flyer in their 7th period class on Tuesday, and extra flyers will be available at Open House. Pitching standout was Chris Camy throwing 6 shutout innings and 8 strikeouts. And Josiah Pando throwing 1 inning to close out the game. Montgomery hit a single to score one of the runs to make it 2-0. Defensive standouts were Camy, Yosida, Shy, and Fishel. La Joya had great support from the fans and our number one supporter Max Marquez. * Varsity Baseball The La Joya 8th grade baseball team defeated Woodrow Wilson 7-1. Offensive standouts were Colton Montgomery, Trevor Shy, Louis Matta, Arrix Rios, Joel rosales, Kristian Alapisco, and Bryan Lara. Outstanding pitching from Arix Rios with 5 strikeouts and pitch 6 outstanding inning with only letting up 1 run. Defensive standouts were Cole Yoshida,Chris Camy,Josiah Pando, and Trevor Shy. * Junior Varsity Softball The La Joya Junior Varsity Softball Team defeated Green Acres, 17 - 0, on Tuesday. The Lady Explorers were led by Pitcher Karlie Bilbrey who pitched a complete game.
