It was an all-around team effort and the girls were able to defeat teams from Rio Vista, Clay and Granite Middle Schools. Great job ladies. The Girls JV Volleyball team also defeated Divisadero 25-18, 25-16 on Tuesday. Saleen Mariscal led the way with great defense, multiple kills and several service points. Karissa Ortiz also added great defense from the back row. Way to go girls. The team's next game will be Wednesday at Green Acres. The Varsity Volleyball team lost a close match to Divisadero on Monday night, 25-23, 25-27 and 14-16. The top players were Payton Diaz, Kassandra Perez and Karlie Bilbrey. The course was 1.75 miles long and top finishers for the girls were Kierah Trujillo who finished in 12 minutes and three seconds in 1st place. Juliet Perez finished 4th, Lucio Taylor was the top 7th grade girl overall in 5th place. Damian SantaCruz took first place in the boys race finishing with a time of 9 minutes and 53 seconds. Cole Kenison came in 2nd place at 10 minutes and two minutes. Cisco Cabrera was the first boy crossing the line for 7th grade in a time of 10 minutes and 43 seconds. Also, to Mr. Harrell for defeating the entire second lunch! Congratulations to the La Joya Cross Country team for their outstanding performance at their home meet last Thursday. The course was 1.75 miles long and top finishers for the girls were Kierah Trujillo who finished in 12 minutes and three seconds in 1st place. Juliet Perez finished 4th, Lucio Taylor was the top 7th grade girl overall in 5th place. Damian SantaCruz took first place in the boys race finishing with a time of 9 minutes and 53 seconds. Cole Kenison came in 2nd place at 10 minutes and two minutes. Cisco Cabrera was the first boy crossing the line for 7th grade in a time of 10 minutes and 43 seconds. Brian Gunsolus took 4th overall and second for 7th grade boys. Great job to the other La Joya runners who all finished with great times. We would like to dedicate the Month of October to be the Month of Respect. Each week we will have a themed challenge to show our La Joya PRIDE by showing Respect to others.
