Good morning Explorers, let's remember to have La Joya PRIDE in everything we do!

STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

* Athletics is selling pizza today, $2 a slice and $1 for a water.
*  PRIDE Store
    Attention students, the PRIDE Store will be offering pizza today.  Only ten PRIDE tickets per slice.
* Library News
Attention students.  In order to be able to come to the library at lunch you must get a pass from Miss Dill in the library before lunch.  There will be a limited number of passes available.  If you get a pass you must eat your lunch first and then show the pass to be excused to the library.  You must turn in the pass to Miss Dill.  Students that do not have a pass will be sent back to the cafeteria.  This is for both first and second lunches.  The library will be closed on Fridays at lunch for Reading Revolution teams to meet and train for the competition.

*  There is still time to sign up for CJSF (California Junior Scholarship Federation).  Please come before or after school, and bring your report card and $1 to Mrs. Gibson in room 101 or      Mrs. Allen in room 503!  Don't miss out on being a part of this prestigious society!!  Today is the last day to sign up for CJSF.

*  Monday, January 29th is a minimum day, students will be released at 1:30.
*AVID will be visiting Fresno State Saturday February 17th and we would like to invite one 7th grader and one 8th grader to join us. We will be touring the campus, eating lunch in the dining hall, and watching Fresno State Men's Basketball VS. Colorado State. It will all be free!!!!   All you have to do is put your name in a drawing today at lunch. We will draw the names at Tuesday's rally. Good Luck!

* Saturday University
Today is the last day to sign up for tomorrow's Saturday University. Have a friend sign up with you and receive 10 Pride Tickets for attending. Students who attend will also be entered in a drawing for a Starbucks gift card. Go to the La Joya website to sign up today!

*Would you like to be in the La Joya School Play? If so, auditions will be next Tuesday & Wednesday (January 30 & 31) afterschool until 4pm. You only need to attend one of the audition days. If you would like to audition, come see Mr. Morris in Room 301 to get your monologue and set up an audition appointment. Don't let your fear of auditioning keep you from joining our school play! Go see Mr. Morris with any questions you may have!


SPORTS NEWS

Congratulations to the 7th grade boys soccer team who played a great game against Divisadero yesterday. They ended the game 4-5. Goals for La Joya were Jesus Martinez, Ralph Garcia, Noah Medina and Jaszper Malone. Coming up with saves in the goal were Isaiah Diaz with three, Jesus Martinez with four and Seth Taylor with four saves. Great job boys!

On Wednesday the jv boys basketball team defeated Divisadero, 53-38. Leading the Explorers in scoring were Avery Conway and Joseph Diaz (10 points each), Noah Garcia and Elijah Martinez (7), Elijah Tamayo (5), Alex Hernandez and John Chavez (4), and Rylan Montgomery, Max Martin, and Cooper Schimpf (2).


The Girls JV basketball team defeated Divisadero 23-7 on Wednesday.  Sofia Perez led the way with 6 points, Kiersten Shade had 4 points and Katty Zhang had 2 points and 8 rebounds.  The team played great defense and held Divisadero to just 2 points in the first half.  Way to go girls

The Varsity Girls Soccer team defeated Divisadero 2-0. Goal Keeper Mya Rodriguez recorded 3 saves. Emily Yanez & Bella Flores each scored a goal.



Friday 1/26

8th Grade Girls Basketball are at home for the La Joya Girls Basketball Tournament.  Release the players at 2:45, Game time is 3:30 vs. Valley Oak.

Saturday 1/27

8th Grade Girls Basketball continue play in the La Joya Girls Tournament, game times TBD.
8th Grade Girls Soccer is at Rio Vista Middle School for a tournament.  Game times are 8:00, 10:00, 12:00 and the last one is TBD.
