"It's Cool to Go to School III"

Ø  The high school attendance incentive program-"It's Cool to Go to School"-is back!  Any student with PERFECT attendance this year is automatically entered into the drawing for a new Nissan Versa, courtesy of the Groppetti Automotive Family.  There are two ways to achieve PERFECT attendance this year; please visit your Attendance Office for contest rules.

1. Tomorrow Tuesday March 14, 2017 MWHS will be holding its biannual blood drive in the gym. This semester we are putting a little twist on the blood drive. As part of Mr. Pioneer week the blood drive will be used as a competition for our top 5 Mr. Pioneer candidates. Those who donate blood can do so in the name of a top 5 candidate, and the candidate that gets the most donors will get competition points to help them towards their goal of winning Mr. Pioneer. Our goal is to raise 200 pints of blood!   We are asking staff, faculty, students, and Community members  to come out and support this great cause. To participate, pick up a blood drive packet from the front office, and see Ms. Shipley to sign up for a time by March 13th.  The California Blood Center is in dire need of blood. Come out and donate, you can help save a life!

2. If you would like to join the XL Soccer Team, please stop by and sign the roster in room S-11 (no experience needed) Practices will be Monday - Thursday (time TBD) AND games will be on Fridays (time TBD). We will schedule games against XL programs from Redwood, El Diamante, Golden West and Sequoia. Let's have some fun!
3. Attention Senior & Junior girls and boys, the Enchanted Evening Dress Give-Away and Tuxedo Rental is April 1, 2017. Please sign up with Mrs. Cantu in the counseling office by March 24th! There will be no late sign ups.



4. Need help in your classes? Come to PM Tutorial. We have tutors specialize in all levels of Math, English, Science, Social Science, and Spanish. Our tutors are ready to help!



Ø  Have questions concerning College or Careers? Come and visit you College and Career Ambassador at the library before and after school.



Ø  Interested in joining a club? Come to S-11 and find out about the various opportunities


5. We are in need of SCICON Counselors for the weeks of April 3rd and April 18th. Please sign in the counseling office if you are able to attend.

6. Come play video games created by the freshmen in the Academy of Computer Science during lunch this Friday in the quad.

SPORTS BULLETIN

Mar. 9

Congratulations to the Varsity softball team who picked up their 2nd win on the season with a 10-9 victory over Tulare Union on Tuesday.  Mt. Whitney scored a combined 10 runs through the first four innings on 12 hits.  Leading the way for the Lady Pioneers were Ashely Rojo with three hits and 2 RBIs, Lexi Barrios with 2 RBIs, and Kaitlyn Coffman with 2 hits and 2 RBIs.  Evelyn Havran hurled a complete game to earn the win.

After Suffering their 1st loss of the season to Tulare Western, the JV softball team bounced back with a 14-9 win over Tulare Union.  Caitlyn Jump went 3-4 with a triple, Kellsi Medeiros hit a 3-run home run, and Savannah Negrete 2-4.



Congratulations to the JV baseball team for their 8-2 win over Ridgeview.  Leading the way were Nick Magana with 2 hits and 2 stolen base and Brandon Hernandez 2 hits and a stolen base.  Magana also earned the win on the mound with 6 strikeouts.



Boys and girls soccer players, team pictures can be picked up in the Attendance Office before school, at lunch, or after school.



Attention all students who are interested in wrestling next year. Pioneer Wrestling is having practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5:30pm.  No experience is needed.  Boys and Girls are all welcome. If you have any questions see Coach Meza in room K12.



The XL Program is helping out anyone wanting to try out for cheer. They'll help out with conditioning, tumbling, and jumps. Tuesdays and Fridays from 3:30pm-4:30pm.



The boys basketball awards banquet will be on Tuesday, March 14 at 6:00pm in the MW Gym.



Spring Sports pictures: Boys Tennis, today March 9; Softball, Tuesday, March 14; and Baseball, Wednesday, March 15.



Anyone interested in cheer for the 2017-18 season, important dates.  Parent meeting, Friday, March 17, 6-8:00pm in the MW Cafeteria, Cheer Clinics, March 21-23, 4-6:30pm in the MW Gym, and Cheer Tryouts, Friday, March 24, 4-9:00pm in the MW Gym.



Attention boys golfers, we have added the Visalia City Invitational @ Visalia Country Club on Monday, March 27 at 12:00.



Teachers, please excuse the swim and dive team today at 1:45, the bus will leave for Porterville at 2:00.   For Friday, March 10, please excuse the JV softball team at 1:15 for home Tournament game and the Frosh and JV baseball teams today at 2:30 for home game vs. Porterville.  There are no early outs for Varsity baseball, game time is 7:00pm.  Thank you and good luck to all our student-athletes.

1.  Mecha Club is meeting every Thursday at lunch in T2. Everyone is welcome


2.  There will be an FCA meeting tomorrow Tuesday the 14th in M-6 at lunch. We will have a guest speaker and lunch will be served.

3.  PLS (the poetry club) will meet tomorrow Tuesday in J-5 during lunch.

4.  Attention MW FFA members: Come to our monthly meeting on Wednesday March 15, 2017 at 4:15 in X-1. After the meeting those who signed up will be going to the sectional meeting at Roller Towne. Reminder there is no bus, so you need your own transportation..

Attention seniors:  If you applied to a 4 year college and you received a D or an F on your transcript last semester, or if you dropped or changed a class that you reported on your college application, you ABSOLUTELY MUST let the college Admission Offices know!  You can either call or email, but emailing is the preferred method, so that you have proof of making them aware.  If you do not contact them concerning these circumstances, there is a very good chance that the colleges will revoke your admission offer, because you will be falsifying your application.  The UC and CSU campuses report that they will definitely revoke your admission offer, if you do not make them aware of these circumstances. 2.  Attention Seniors Who Are Attending Grad Nite:  Bus Selections will happen on Wednesday, March 22nd, beginning at 7:30 am.  Make sure you have access to your school email account.  If you do not, please see Mrs. Eickelberg.  A link will be sent out to your school email that will allow you to select your Bus.  So be prepared!

Amount: $250

Criteria:

1.  This scholarship is designed for students who intend to major in education studies at the college level in order to become teachers.

2.  Some active involvement in school activities, sports, performing arts, clubs

3.  Must be 2016 VUSD graduating senior with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above, and be on track for graduation

Application Process:  Please stop by the MWHS Counseling Office for the application packet.



Pioneer Aquatics Booster Club

Deadline: 3/30/2017
Amount: $500 (2) for top boy and girl entries / $250 (4) for outstanding entries (girl or boy)

1.      Criteria: Minimum participation of four semesters in MW Aquatics

2.      Must be or become a PABC member

3.      Plan on continuing education (college or trade school)

4.      Submit a quality 1-2 page essay on How the MWHS Aquatics Program has had an impact on your life.
Application Process: Pick up applications in the counseling office. Turn in packets to the counseling office by Thursday, March 30th with the attached application form.



Blue Diamond Growers Scholarship

Deadline: 03/31/2017 (received by date)

Criteria:

Applicants must come from almond producing area of CA

Intend to be a full time student at a 4 year university

Intend to major in selected fields of agriculture
