"It's Cool to Go to School III"

Ø  The high school attendance incentive program-"It's Cool to Go to School"-is back!  Any student with PERFECT attendance this year is automatically entered into the drawing for a new Nissan Versa, courtesy of the Groppetti Automotive Family.  There are two ways to achieve PERFECT attendance this year; please visit your Attendance Office for contest rules.

1. If you would prefer to take History online for summer school, instead of regular summer school, you must sign up in the counseling office. Spots are limited; it is first come first serve.
2.  Attention ALL MW Athletes!  If you plan on participating in any sport next school year, NOW is the time to register for the SPORT PHYSICAL CLINIC on Thursday, May 18th in the MW Gym.   You can pick up forms in the Nurse's Office or Attendance Office.  Please return the completed forms and $2.00 to the Nurse by Friday May 12th.  No late registrations will be taken.

3. THIS IS CRAZY! Unless Jostens can order us more yearbooks, we only have 24 books left that we can sell!! We will be having a ONE DAY ONLY SALE THIS Friday, May 5th, FOR $80, CASH ONLY (normally $90). Come to Room B-207 before school or at lunch only while they last! THIS WILL BE YOUR LAST CHANCE TO BUY A YEARBOOK UNTIL OAK DAY. First come, first served...don't go without a yearbook, it's going to be GREAT!

4. Senior Grams on sale now until May 11!  Tell your favorite Seniors, "Congratulations.  I'll miss you.  Love you forever!"  Purchase your grams for $2 each in the Quad at lunch.  The souvenir Grams will be delivered on Friday May 12.

5. Current Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors- come out this Friday during lunch to the Amaral building and cast your vote for next year's class officers.

6. Attention Juniors and Seniors:  If you want to take a Freshman or Sophomore to the Prom on May 13th, you must fill out a Jr/Sr Prom Invitation to get approval.  The forms are with Mrs. Eickelberg in the Attendance Office and must be submitted NO LATER THAN Tuesday, May 9th.

SPORTS BULLETIN

May 2

Congratulations to the varsity baseball team for defeating Hanford West 13-0 on Friday.  The Pioneers exploded for 15 hits against Hanford.  Winning pitcher Holden Powell kept the Huskies' hitters at bay, recording 11 strikeouts and finishing 3-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBIs at the plate.  Philip Dinis finished 3-5 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs and Matt Rodriguez went 3-5 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Teachers, please excuse the F-S track team today at 1:15, the bus will leave for El Diamante at 1:30 for the WYL F-S Championships.  For tomorrow, May 3, please excuse the Varsity dive team at 9:00am, the suburban will leave at 9:15am for Lemoore, the baseball teams at 2:15, the bus will leave for Hanford at 2:30, and the softball teams at 2:30, the bus will leave for Lemoore at 2:45. It's Audition Time for Speeches at MWHS Commencement 2017

There will be two speech opportunities at this year's Commencement Ceremony:

#1- the Welcome Speech--a pre-written speech in English AND Spanish; and

#2- the Senior Speech-written by the applicant.

#1-The Welcome Speech will be a pre-written speech.  We need someone to read the English version AND someone to read the Spanish version.  When you sign up, you will be given a copy of the speech to practice.

#2-The Senior Speech will be written by the applicant.

Auditions will be held on Thursday, May 11th, after school in Mrs. Oto's classroom, B25.  You may sign up with Mrs. Eickelberg beginning Monday, May 1st.  You may choose to audition for all speeches OR just one.

Criteria:

Discover Student Loans Scholarship Award

Deadline: 05/31/2017 @ 11:59pm ET

Amount: $100,000 in scholarships to 40 individuals

Criteria:

The Wagner-Verduzco Pre-Medical Scholarship

Deadline: 06/01/2017

Amount: $300-$600

Criteria and Application Process:

This is a scholarship that will be dispersed to one female and one male Visalia high school senior or alumni in the amount of $300.00 each. Or one $600 scholarship if there is only a single applicant. The scholarship is awarded by Dr. Esteban Verduzco and his wife Caty. He is a graduate of Mt. Whitney high school c/o 2000 and alumni of UC Davis Medical school and Yale Internal Medicine Residency. Preference will be given to pre-medical students of a low-income background or those with a pledge to return to Tulare Co. to practice, interest in Latino or Native American health issues, or other marginalized groups. The deadline is June 1, 2017.
