Ø  Attention Students:

Ø  Students who arrive to school after the tardy bell 1st period and the gate is locked will be assigned one day lunch detention that day in B24.  IDs will be collected in the office.  When the student goes to detention that day, the ID will be returned to them at the end of the detention.   Also, ALL students who are not in the gate when the tardy bell rings 5th period will have their off campus privileges revoked for one week. Student IDs will be collected at the gate and returned after school.

2. Attention All Pioneers, if you are struggling in a class or need extra help with homework assignments XL student tutors are here to help you! XL tutoring services are offered before school on Monday’s 7am to 9am and Tuesday thru Thursday 7am to 8am. After school tutoring is offered Monday thru Thursday from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. Tutoring services consist of; Math 1, Math 2, Math 3, Pre-Calculus, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, English, and Spanish. All tutoring services are FREE and are held in the Library. Please take advantage of the tutoring services that XL student tutors are willing to offer you to improve your grades this semester.
3. Attention all students and Mt. Whitney staff, the Hip-Hop Club is having a Custom Button-Making fundraiser. Button size are 2 ¼ inches and are only $3 dollars. If you are interested in getting a customized button please email your school appropriate picture to Ivet the XL Site Director at isoria at pyheart.org<mailto:isoria at pyheart.org> Please allow 3-4 for days for pick up. This fundraiser is going on until the end of the school year. For more information on the Custom Button-Making fundraiser talk to a Hip-Hop Club member or stop by the XL room S-11.

5. Mr. Perrotta’s Biotechnology classes are raising money through the Living Water World Missions charity to provide clean drinking water for villages in Guatemala. If you would like to donate to this worthy cause, please stop by room H-5 to contribute. No amount is too large or small. If we can raise $4500, we will provide clean drinking water for an entire village of Guatemalans. Thank you for considering this!
6. Junior and Senior boys who need help renting a tuxedo for Prom, please see Mrs. Araiza for more information.
7. Attention alll students, the XL program is hosting a 5 vs 5 Soccer Tournament after school on Friday, April 26th, and Friday, May 3rd. Winners of the Soccer Tournament will go to the finals on Friday, May 10th. Winners will also receive a gift cards and some XL swag. If you are interested in participating please stop by the XL room to register your team. Deadline to sign up will be Thursday, April 4th. Every student is welcome to participate. If you have any questions about the 5 vs 5 Soccer Tournament please stop by the XL room and speak to Ivet or Carlos.
8.  Attention all Pioneer students: Did you know Most Famous athletes go broke within 2 years because they lacked Financial Literacy. They simply did not know how to properly manage their money. Citizens Business Bank will be coming on campus TOMORROW, April 25th at 3:35 in room  S-12 to present a lesson on Financial Literacy. Every student is welcome to attend. Students who sign-up and attend a minimum of 3 lessons will receive a reward and pizza party at the end of the school year. For more information on this workshop please see Ivet Soria in room S-11.
9.  Students – friendly reminder to please continue to pick up trash after breakfast and lunch.  Show your MW Pride by keeping our campus clean.
10. Donation Drive benefiting the Visalia Rescue Mission on April 27th from 8:00am-12:00pm at the Visalia Unified School District office parking lot.  We are seeking donations of sleeping bags, cold weather gear, clothing, and toiletries.  We will have food vendors and all who donate will get a chance to win prizes donated by each ASB!

Club Notes





1.    The GSA Club will meet in J-4 for the rest of the semester.  Newcomers are welcome.



2.   The Intersectional Feminist Club meets every Monday at lunch in K7. Join us and bring a friend!


3.   Come join Hip-Hop Club after school Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. We have a new Choreographer!  Everyone is Welcome!! Come out and have fun with us!





4.   PLS (the poetry club) will meet Tuesday in J-5 at lunch.

1.     Seniors-Come by the counseling office during lunch or before/after school to sign up for college visits.

2.    There will be two speech opportunities at this year’s Commencement Ceremony:

#1- the Welcome Speech--a pre-written speech in English and Spanish; and

#2- the Senior Speech-written by the applicant.  #1-The Welcome Speech will be a pre-written speech.  We need someone to read the English version and someone to read the Spanish version.  When you sign up, you will be given a copy of the speech for you to practice.

#2-The Senior Speech will be written by the applicant- due by noon on Thursday, May 2nd.

Auditions will be held on Tuesday, May 7th, after school in Mrs. Oto’s classroom, B25.  You may sign up with Mrs. Reyes beginning April 12, 2019 and select the speeches you want to audition for.



3.    Seniors – the Fallen Memorial Scholarship essay is due Monday May 29th at 1:30 pm. If you have a parent or grandparent that served in the military you may be eligible. This scholarship is valued at $1,000. Please see Ms. Bravo or Ms. Herrera in the Counseling Office for more details.

Amount: Varies
Criteria:
InFaith donors create donor advised scholarship funds for any level of education, from preschool to postgraduate studies. InFaith offers two types of scholarship funds – designated scholarship and InFaith administered scholarships.
The InFaith Community Foundation Scholarship (formerly the Lutheran Community Foundation Scholarship) was established to benefit students who are members of congregations that hold active organizational endowment funds at InFaith Community Foundation (InFaith).  One $5,000 award will be given for the 2018-2019 school year. Applicants must be high school graduating seniors seeking a four-year undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university. Be a high school graduating senior and a member of a congregation that holds an active InFaith Organizational Fund; Demonstrate financial need;
Plan to attend an accredited college or university and seeking a four-year degree;
Be in good academic standing with a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Mary Barbara Price Lutheran Scholarship for Undergraduates (formerly Tulare County Lutheran Scholarship) was established to benefit students who are residents of Madera, Kings, Kern or Tulare County and are a member of a Lutheran church. High School Seniors. Any high school senior who is a member of a Lutheran congregation and has permanent residence in Madera, Kings, Kern or Tulare County may apply for this scholarship.All applicants to this scholarship program must demonstrate that they have graduated from high school in good academic standing and must maintain good academic standing in their undergraduate studies in order to continue receiving the scholarship.

Criteria:
*Applicant must be be actively participating in some way in Republican activities such as the Young Republicans, Tulare County Central COmmittee, Republican WOmen Federated, and/pr interning/working in the offices of Republican legislators
*Must be a US Citizen and a Visalia resident
*Applicant must have applied to or be enrolled full time in vocational school, community college, 4 year college or university, and must have a GPA of at least 3.0
*All applicant must submit a personal essay, 500 words or less, about what being a Republican means to you, your educational goals, and where you see yourself in 5 years.Describe any special circumstances that you have experienced that would assist the scholarship committee in the selection process.
