BULLETIN
3/8/17

TODAY:

 1.  MR. RANGER WEEK, DRESS UP DAYS:  TODAY-- Thousand Island (tropical); Thursday March 9th - Caesar (Greek/roman); Friday March 10th - Blue cheese (school spirit).  Mr. Ranger Night Friday March 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the Rotary Theatre.
 2.  AP TESTING REGISTRATION TODAY.  AP Testing will take place May 1ST - May 12TH.  To register for an AP Exam, students must complete a registration form and pay a $15, non-refundable, deposit per exam.  Registration forms are in the Counseling Office outside of Ms. Ashford's office.  The deadline to register is Wednesday, March 22 at 3:30 p.m.  The cost is $93 per exam and any remaining balance not paid by March 22nd, will be due on the day of the exam.  If you qualify for free or reduced lunch or meet Federal Income Guidelines, you may qualify for a fee waiver.  Please come see Ms. Ashford to apply for the fee waiver.  If you have any questions regarding AP testing or need an AP bulletin, please contact Ms. Ashford.
3.       SADIES HAWKINS DANCE TICKETS go on sale TODAY, before school, during lunch and after school.  Tickets will be sold TODAY, WEDNESDAY March 8th and FRIDAY March 10th.  NO TICKET SALES ON THURSDAY MARCH 9th!  Ticket prices are:  ASB sticker $15.00; without ASB sticker $25.00 and $45.00 at the door.  The dance is on Saturday March 11th at the Golden West High School Gym from 8:00 - 11:00 p.m.
4.       FEMINIST PERSPECTIVE MEETING TODAY at lunch in Room 38.  We'll be taking our Yearbook Photo and discussing a Day Without a Woman.
5.       ACTivist PLANNING COMMITTEE MEETING after school TODAY in Room 38.  Tickets for the ACTivists' Conference go on sale soon!  $5 includes lunch, sway bag, attendance to workshops, and a raffle ticket.  See Mrs. Hamblen in Room 38 for details!
6.       M.E.Ch.A. MEMBERS MEETING TODAY at the Library during lunch.  Wear your M.E.Ch.A. Shirt for Yearbook picture.
7.       M.E.Ch.A. CLUB is selling St. Patrick's Day Grams starting TODAY, if you want to send a note to a special classmate, teacher or significant other, contact the M.E.Ch.A. CLUB MEMBERS or see Ms. Contreras at the Library during passing, before school, after school or during lunch.

NEW ANNOUNCEMENT:
1.       FRENCH CLUB photo Thursday March 9th at lunch in Room 47. Wear a striped shirt!  We will have berets!
2.       DRAMA BOOSTER MEETING next Monday March 13th at 6:30 p.m. in the Drama Room 15 at Sierra Vista Campus.
3.       GAY STRAIGHT ALLIANCE MEETING Friday March 10th at lunch in Room 38 to take our Yearbook Photo!
4.       BOOK CLUB MEETING this Thursday March 9th at lunch in Mrs. Moore's Room 203.  We are going to decide on a new book to read.  Come with suggestions or just to hang with fellow book lovers.
5.       DANCE SHOW PROGRAM ADS:  Redwood High School's 17th ANNUAL DANCE SHOW, "RTV", will be held April 20th & 21st at 7:00 p.m. and April 22nd at 5:00 p.m.  In an effort to raise funds for program printing, costumes, props, equipment and technician costs, the students are selling program ads.  The ads may be sold to business or they ma be personal messages, and/or names from "well-wishers".  Price list for the ads:  $35 - 1/8 page (business card size); $68 - ¼ page; $120 - ½ page; $190 - gull page.  Ads are DUE NO LATER than March 17th.  Questions? 6.       The M.E.Ch.A. CLUB in collaboration with XL Leadership Club are working together in a heartfelt project "Bottles for Babies."  Members of both clubs are collecting donations to raise money during the month of March 2017.  All proceeds will go to Young Lives Organization.  The mission of Young Lives is to create a positive and sustainable change in the lives of teen moms and their children, impacting two generations at once.

PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 1.  We will be holding a WINTER RECOGNITION ASSEMBLY on Friday February 10th.  The bell schedule will be in the bulletin on that date.
 2.  Hey Rangers, have you realized that you're getting closer to adulthood and still don't know how to be a grown up?  Don't fret!  Starting Tuesday February 21st, Redwood XL will be kicking off a new program called "Adulting 101".  Come learn about all the things grown-ups wish they learned in high school - like how to do taxes, open a bank account, change a tire, get a job, and many other tasks.  This new class will take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. with Mallory Bonnema in Room 107.  We can't wait to see you there!
3.       TRUE Ranger Assembly will be on March 27th.  The bell schedule will be in the bulletin on that date.

 1.  PTSA MEETINGS will be on March 27th, April 24th, and May 22nd in the Redwood Library at 5:30 p.m.
 2.  It is that time of year again PROM 2017 is coming!   ENCHANTED EVENING PROM DRESS/TUXEDO GIVE-AWAY will be on Saturday April 1st at 6:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m., Wyndham Hotel (formerly Holiday Inn); for Junior and Senior boys and girls that can't afford a dress or tux because of a hardship.  Sign-ups will be in the Counseling Office, Deadline is Monday March 27th.
 3.  CAASPP testing for all Juniors/11 grade students will be administered from March 21 through March 24th for ELA portion and April 25th through April 28th for Math portion. During the testing days, all Redwood 9th- 12th grade students will adhere to the following block bell schedule BELOW:

 1.  REDWOOD SCARVES are available in the Counseling Office.  Proceeds will go to support Redwood Boys and Girls Soccer Teams.  Scarves are $20.  Please see Mrs. Torres in the Counseling Office if you are interested.
 2.  NEW FOREIGN LANGUAGE OPTIONS:  Redwood is looking to offer additional foreign languages for next school year.  The additional options are AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE AND CHINESE MANDARIN. Students who are interested in requesting either of these languages need to notify their counselor ASAP.
 3.  REDWOOD STUDENTS are spreading awareness of domestic violence.  In today's society, 1 in every 3 women and one in every 4 men will be impacted by domestic violence.  For more statistics and who to contact for help or treatment of domestic violence, check out the flyers posted around campus.
 4.  The HIGH SCHOOL ATTENDANCE INCENTIVE PROGRAM - "It's COOL TO GO TO SCHOOL" - is back!  Any student with PERFECT ATTENDANCE this year is automatically entered into the drawing for a new Nissan Versa, courtesy of the Groppetti Automotive Family.  There are two way to achieve PERFECT ATTENDANCE this year; please visit your Attendance Office for contest rules."
SENIORS:
1.       SENIOR CAP AND GOWN DISTRIBUTION:  SENIORS need to report the Redwood Gym at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday March 30th.  Jostens will be distributing pre-ordered graduation caps and gowns.

Transcript - freshman through first semester of your senior year 5.  14. Anita de la Vega Scholarship

Read for Life Criteria: Students must be a graduating high school senior in Tulare County, have a minimum of 50 hours of volunteer service outside of school, which focuses on improving literacy in Tulare County, cumulative GPA of 2.5, plan on attending a college, university, or trade school in the US.  1.  Central Valley Women's Network Amount: $1,000. Criteria: *The applicant must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. *Applicants must have a Grade Point Average of at least a 3.0 (B average) for the most recent academic year.  *The criteria for scholarship selection will be based on varying degrees of the following:  academics, school and community involvement, stated goals and career objectives. *The applicant must be at least 17 years of age. *The applicant must be a resident of Tulare or Kings County. *The applicant must be a legal citizen of the United States.  2.  The Robert Harrell Career and Technical Education Scholarship This scholarship currently gives approximately 30 scholarships at $1,000 each for various vocational technical programs. The scholarship is for a student who is from Visalia (or lives in Tulare County and is attending a vocational program in Visalia) and is pursuing a vocational technical school in an accredited institution. There are four application periods each year for the Robert Harrell Career and Technical Education Scholarship. Please refer to the scholarship for the dates.  Deadline April 15th.
