BULLETIN
9/26/17

TODAY:

1.       HOMECOMING DRESS UP DAYS (Week of 9/25-9/29):  TODAY - Twister Tuesday, "Fashion Disaster"; Wednesday 9/27 - Which is Which "Twin Day"; Thursday 9/28 - Kansas Day, "Country Western"; Friday 9/29 - There's No Place Like Redwood! "Show your Ranger Pride!

2.       Construction for the national VEX in the Zone competition has started.  The details of this robotic event will be discussed during Redwood's next ROBOTICS CLUB MEETING in Mr. Harris' Room TODAY during lunch.  Our first competition is October 11th.  Will Redwood be ready in time?  Only time will tell.  (What a cool alliteration).  Come hungry.

3.       PAWS 4 a CAUSE Homecoming FLOAT COMMITTEE MEMBERS only MEETING TODAY at lunch in Room 94 to finalize ideas, design, etc.

4.       HISTORY DAY will be holding an informational MEETING in Room 38 on TODAY during lunch.  History Day is a competitive organization that creates a project based on student research.  Students will be able to compete in the following categories:  documentary, essay, exhibit, website, and performance.  Come during lunch to find out more!

5.       US ARMY will be doing a PUSH-UP COMPETITIION TODAY during lunch.  They will be giving away prizes!!!

6.       RED INK CLUB MEMBERS, there is a scheduled MEETING TODAY in Room 103 at lunch to discuss final plans about homecoming and plans regarding future events for the club.
SPORTS TODAY/EARLY RELEASES:
NEW ANNOUNCEMENT:

1.       CHRISTIANS IN ACTION are inviting you to join them to the annual See You At The Pole prayer event in front of Redwood High School on Wednesday September 27th at 7:15 a.m. in the morning.  If you have any questions please contact Mr. Tadeo at atadeo at vusd.us<mailto:atadeo at vusd.us>.

2.       HIP HOP CLUB MEETING will be on Thursday September 28th at lunch in the Dance Room.  Homecoming details will be finalized at this meeting!  Remember that you will need a black t-shirt and blue jeans for the parade.  We are in need of large (refrigerator size) cardboard boxes, paint, glue, glitter and paint brushes.  Drop off donations at the Dance Room.  Thank you for the support!

3.       PSAT FEE WAIVERS:  There are still a number of fee waivers available for the October 11th PSAT Test. See Mr. Matta regarding fee waiver guidelines.

4.       AUDITIONS for this year's ALL SCHOOL MUSICAL are coming!  October 3rd at 6:00 p.m., October 4th at 4:00 p.m.  Callbacks will be October 5th!  You can pick up an info packet from Mr. Carrillo in the Choir Room, or from Mrs. Galvan in the Drama Room 15 at Sierra Vista Campus.  Everyone is welcome!

5.       JIU JITSU is officially starting!  If you are interested in participating in this sport please join your XL instructor Tyler Alexander in the cafeteria lounge starting THIS WEEK.  Jiu Jitsu will be held Monday-Friday from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m.  Everyone is welcome!

6.       KEY CLUB MEETING:  There will be a MEETING on Wednesday September 27th in Room 95 during lunch.  We'll be discussing the homecoming float, membership dues and new service opportunities!  See you there!
PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1.       PICTURE MAKE-UPS  for 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th GRADES will be on September 27th from 11:30 a.m. - 1:10 p.m. in the library.  SENIORS: last free opportunity for yearbook pictures; if you don't have an appointment with Essence to get your pictures taken; YOU MUST COME TO MAKE UPS on September 27th!!!

2.       HOMECOMING PARADE will be on September 29th and parade schedule to be in the bulletin on that date.

3.       CAL GRANT OPT OUT:  With the implementation of Assembly Bill 2160, California public high schools are required to submit a Cal Grant high school Grade Point Average (GPA) for all graduating seniors, unless the student or parent has opted out of the submission process.  If you do not want Redwood High School to report a GPA, please pick up the Opt Out Form in the Counseling Office before October 1st.

4.       "SOCIEDAD HONORARIA HISPANICA" MEMBERS are invited to order a SHH t-shirt this semester.  They will be gray with the national SHH symbol on front.  Come to Room 2 to pay your $10.00 and give your shirt size to Sra. Jimenez by October 6th.  You can also email Sra. Jimenez at ajimenez at vusd.org<mailto:ajimenez at vusd.org>.

5.       ATTENTION JUNIORS AND SENIORS:  YOUTH LEADERSHIP - STEPUP leadership and mentoring program.  Want the opportunity to...visit college campuses, get a job, and get involved.  Apply today for the opportunity to make a difference in your community.  Application deadline is October 6th. SCHOLARSHIPS:

1.       Wendy's High School Heisman Scholarship
Criteria:  Student Athletes: high school seniors can nominate themselves for this prestigious honor by using the online form to give our judges a sense of who they are as athletes, scholars and citizens.  Application Process:  Deadline: October 2
