TODAY:
1. LOVE WEEK is arriving next week! LOVE WEEK is a time where we show our love as Rangers to our peers, our school and our community. It will be an awesome week filled with lunch time activities, and opportunities to tell someone how thankful you are for them. DRESS UP DAYS FOR THE WEEK ARE: TODAY: Perfect Pairs (bffs, famous couples); Wednesday February 14th: "What's your status?" Red-Taken, Pink-Talking, Blue-Single, White-Can't be Held Down, Grey - It's Complicated; Thursday February 15th: "Would you still love me if I looked like this?" Mix-Match, Fashion Disaster; Friday February 16th: "Love you 'till I turn Blue..." Ranger Spirit Gear!
2. VALENTINES's GRAMS are being sold in the QUAD TODAY. Get your friends or that special someone a gift and support your local LINK CREW.
3. SENIOR MEETING: A Senior Meeting will be held in the Gym on Tuesday February 13th from 12:10 - 12:30 p.m. ALL SENIORS will be excused from their 4th period classes at 12:00 p.m. We will be presenting information about Grad Nite.
4. AP TESTING REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN. AP Testing will take place May 7 - May 18. To register for an AP Exam, students must complete a registration form and pay a $15, non-refundable, deposit per exam. Registration forms are in the Counseling Office outside of Ms. Ashford's office. The deadline to register is Thursday, March 22 at 3:30 p.m. The cost is $94 per exam and any remaining balance not paid by March 22nd, will be due on the day of the exam. If you qualify for free or reduced lunch or meet Federal Income Guidelines, you may qualify for a fee waiver. All students qualify for a one-time fee waiver for one exam. Please see Ms. Ashford to apply for other fee waivers. If you have any questions regarding AP testing, please contact Ms. Ashford.
5. CHRISTIANS IN ACTION (C.I.A.) CLUB will be MEETING TODAY during lunch. Please bring a friend! See you there!
6. INTERACT CLUB: Dr. Seuss day is quickly approaching! If you would like to participate this year, please come to our next meeting (with a book to read) TODAY at lunch in room 101! (You may visit the Visalia Public Library and rent one if you would like!) :)

NEW ANNOUNCEMENT:
1. CSF OFFICER CANDIDATES for 2018-2019 MUST TURN IN COMPLETED APPLICATIONS TODAY to Mrs. Cheatwood in Room 108. If applications are not received by 3:30 p.m., candidates will not be scheduled for interviews. Senior applicants will have interviews at lunch and after-school this Thursday February 15th, and associate applicants will have interviews on Friday February 16th after school. See the list on the door of Room 108 on Wednesday February 14th at 3:30 p.m. for scheduled times. If you have any questions, please email them to gcheatwood at vusd.org<mailto:gcheatwood at vusd.org>.
2. IMPORTANT for all CSF SENIORS: If you have achieved lifetime membership as of this month, you must attend a MANDATORY MEETING on Thursday February 22nd in Room 108. At this meeting, you will receive very important information about the Visalia Lifetime luncheon and graduation procedures. In your 2nd period class this week, you will receive a reminder and a form to complete and bring to the Meeting. If you have not received the reminder by February 20th, or have questions, please see Mrs. Cheatwood or email at gcheatwood at vusd.org.
PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. SUPPORT REDWOOD ASB on VALENTINES DAY! A fundraiser at Blaze Pizza on Mooney will run on Wednesday February 14th from 3:30 - 8:30 p.m. Let the cashiers know you're supporting Redwood High School!
2. 8th GRADE VISITATION to Redwood will be on Friday February 16th.
3. Monday FEBRUARY 19th HOLIDAY - NO SCHOOL!
4. The TALENT SHOW will be held February 23rd at the Rotary Theater.
5. "Looking to enhance your public speaking and interpersonal skills? Interested in learning how to manage conflict, engage in small talk, or even flirt? Register for SPEECH 1 for the 2018-2019 school year. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email Mrs. Moore at smoore at vusd.org<mailto:smoore at vusd.org> OR come by Ranger Hall 203 and ask any questions you may have."
6. Come and get your Redwood Scarf and or Beanies for $20 each to benefit REDWOOD BOY's SOCCER TEAM. If interested, please stop by and see Mrs. Torres in the Counseling Office.
7. Hey Redwood! WRITING ON THE WALLS IS BACK! Yes, the annual RED INK WRITING AND ART CONTEST is open for this year. Rules and submission guidelines can be found in Room 103 or by emailing mlink at vusd.us<mailto:mlink at vusd.us>. Submissions can be turned in or shared at that same address. Any type of writing or art is welcome. Anyone who is a current Redwood student can participate. See your work published and hanging on the walls around campus, submit to WRITING ON THE WALLS before March 3rd.
8. INTERMEDIATE & ADVANCED DANCE AUDITIONS: Tuesday, March 6th 5:00-6:00 p.m. in the dance room. This audition is for incoming 8th graders and students that are not already enrolled in a Redwood dance class. Students should wear dance attire & jazz shoes. Bring the completed packet with you to auditions. Students will be placed into one of the following classes: Introduction to Dance, Intermediate Dance or Advanced Dance.
9. DANCE TEAM AUDITION INFORMATION *Dance Team (Dance Force) 8th Grade Orientation/Skills Screening Tuesday, March 6th 6:00 p.m. in the dance room. This is for 8th graders interested in trying out for the dance team. Students should wear dance attire & jazz shoes. *Dance Team (Dance Force) Audition Workshop Tuesday, March 6th 6:20-8:20 p.m. Dance Team (Dance Force) Auditions Wednesday, March 7th 5:00-8:30 p.m. This audition/workshop is for 8th - 11th grade advanced level dancers. Packets will be available Feb. 9th in Redwood Front Office. Students should wear solid color dance attire, jazz shoes & hair secured neatly. Students will be placed into one of the following classes: Introduction to Dance, Intermediate Dance, Advanced Dance, or Dance Performance (Dance Team)
10. Still stressed out about SATs/ACTs? Well now you can stress a little less because Redwood XL is offering FREE Kaplan SAT/ACT prep courses. These prep courses include official textbooks, word banks, and practice tests. As some of you may know Kaplan prep courses are valued at $300+, and we can only offer a limited amount of accounts. To learn more and to sign up please visit the XL Staff in the upstairs library after school ASAP.
11. Overwatch, League of Legends, Hearthstone, Rocket League. These competitive video games are recognized worldwide with hundreds of organizations, businesses, and schools supporting them. Redwood XL has joined this arena and brings to you RHS eSports! eSports (Electronic Sports) comprises the competitive play of competitive games, with emphasis on real time strategy and multiplayer online battle arena. The program will be held Mondays and Tuesdays from 3:30-5:30.
12. REMINDER: There are student tutors everyday afterschool from 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. If you need help in your classes schedule an appointment with XL Staff at 559-731-5628 or walk-in and look for the students with nametags on black lanyards.
SENIORS:
1. GRAD NITE TICKET SALES: GRAD NITE TICKETS for MAGIC MOUNTAIN will be available for SENIOR to purchase on Wednesday February 21st at 7:00 a.m. for $110 - CASH ONLY! Tickets will be sold in the Redwood Gym. SENIORS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ON CAMPUS UNTIL 7:00 a.m.! ALL FINES must be cleared through the Finance Center before seniors can purchase a ticket. GRAD NITE is Thursday May 17th. We will be leaving Redwood from the Mineral King Parking Lot to head to Magic Mountain at 7:00 p.m.
2. SENIOR PANORAMIC PICTURE is scheduled for Tuesday February 28th at 11:45 a.m. Teachers please release students at 11:40 a.m. and direct them to the Mineral King Bowl.
SCHOLARSHIPS:
1. CIF/FARMERS SCHOLAR-ATHLETE: Amount: up to $5,000; criteria: 3.5gpa or above, Varsity sport at least two years including senior year, display the 6 Pillars of Character; visit http://www.cifstate.org/parents-students/awards_and_scholarships/sa/SCHOLAR-ATHLETE_2018_APPLICATION_FINAL.pdf to apply; Deadline: Must be postmarked by February 12th.
2. Sons of Italy Western Foundation
Amount: $500 to $5,000 Criteria: Must be wholly or partially of Italian descent. Application Process: Apply at http://www.osiaca.org/Scholarships/How-To-Apply
Deadline: March 1
3. Tulare County Farm Bureau-Amount: Varies ($500-$2000)
Criteria: Must attend high school or have graduated from a high school in Tulare County, must complete and return application (paper or online), must submit two letters of recommendation, must submit a copy of current school transcript. Apply at www.tulcofb.org<http://www.tulcofb.org/index.php?page=formScholarshipIntro>. Deadline: March 1
4. The following 5 scholarships are available through the Visalia Rotary Community Foundation- Applications are available in the RHS Counseling Office or visit http://www.visaliarcfoundation.org/scholarships/ to apply now!
5. The Dwelle Four Year Scholarship is a four year college scholarship for the Redwood High School graduate who maintains a 2.8 or greater grade point average. The scholarship can be as much as $3,000 per year for a full four years.
6. The Provident Salierno Family Foundation Music Scholarship is for students interested in a music career who maintains a 3.0 or greater grade point average. The scholarship currently provides about $600 per year for the student at the five high schools listed in the purpose.
7. The Richard B. "Dick" Watson $2,000 STEM Scholarship (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) scholarship consists of two, one-time scholarships awarded each year to students from either Redwood, Mt. Whitney, Golden West, or El Diamante high schools who have demonstrated excellence in both the classroom and extracurricular activities.
8. The Robert Harrell Career and Technical Education Scholarship currently gives approximately 30 scholarships at $1,000 each for various vocational technical programs. The scholarship is for a student who is from Visalia and is pursuing a vocational technical school in an accredited institution.
9. The Jane & Bill Nash Scholarship consists of a $4,000, one year college scholarship for a graduating Redwood High School senior who maintains an unweighted, grade point average between 2.8 and 3.5. Deadline: March 1
10. National Association of Theatre Owners of California/Nevada
Amount: $5,000 to $10,000 Criteria: Must be employed by a CA/NV member movie theater

11. C.S.U. Fresno Scholarships Amount Varies Criteria: Plan on attending Fresno State University
