TODAY:

1.       SPRING FLING DANCE will be on Saturday March 3rd at the Mt. Whitney High School Gym from 8:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.  Tickets will be sold TODAY, before school, during lunch and after school.  On Friday March 2nd tickets sold before school and until the end of lunch, no ticket sales after lunch on Friday March 2nd!!!!  If you have not filled out a Dance Agreement Form, this needs to be turned in to purchase a ticket.  Also if you are bringing someone from outside the VUSD district, a Dance Guest Pass needs to be filled out prior to purchasing a ticket.

2.       Visalia Rotary Community Applications are due today!  Mrs. Jauregui will be accepting them until 3:30!

3.       CSF POTENTIAL LIFETIME SENIORS:  IF YOU NEED THIS SEMESTER IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND A MANDATORY MEETING on Thursday March 8th in Room 108 during lunch.  At this time, you will receive instructions on how to attain lifetime status, and what you must do before graduation.  This announcement is not for those seniors who have already achieved lifetime membership.  If you are unsure of your status, please see Mrs. Cheatwood before the meeting or email gcheatwood at vusd.org<mailto:gcheatwood at vusd.org>.

4.       Sons of Italy Western Foundation
Amount:  $500 to $5,000 Criteria:  Must be wholly or partially of Italian descent.  Application Process: Apply at http://www.osiaca.org/Scholarships/How-To-Apply

5.       Tulare County Farm Bureau-Amount: Varies ($500-$2000)
Criteria: Must attend high school or have graduated from a high school in Tulare County, must complete and return application (paper or online), must submit two letters of recommendation, must submit a copy of current school transcript. 6.        The following 5 scholarships are available through the Visalia Rotary Community Foundation- Applications are available in the RHS Counseling Office or visit http://www.visaliarcfoundation.org/scholarships/ to apply now!

a.       The Dwelle Four Year Scholarship is a four year college scholarship for the Redwood High School graduate who maintains a 2.8 or greater grade point average. The scholarship can be as much as $3,000 per year for a full four years.

b.      The Provident Salierno Family Foundation Music Scholarship is for students interested in a music career who maintains a 3.0 or greater grade point average. The scholarship currently provides about $600 per year for the student at the five high schools listed in the purpose.

c.       The Richard B. "Dick" Watson $2,000 STEM Scholarship (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) scholarship consists of two, one-time scholarships awarded each year to students from either Redwood, Mt. Whitney, Golden West, or El Diamante high schools who have demonstrated excellence in both the classroom and extracurricular activities.

d.      The Robert Harrell Career and Technical Education Scholarship currently gives approximately 30 scholarships at $1,000 each for various vocational technical programs. The scholarship is for a student who is from Visalia and is pursuing a vocational technical school in an accredited institution.

e.      The Jane & Bill Nash Scholarship consists of a $4,000, one year college scholarship for a graduating Redwood High School senior who maintains an unweighted, grade point average between 2.8 and 3.5. TODAY.

NEW ANNOUNCEMENT:

1.       REDWOOD OPEN HOUSE will be on Monday March 19th from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.  Information will be sent home with your student when the date gets closer.

2.       SATURDAY UNIVERSITY will be running this Saturday March 3rd.  Classes to be offered are PE with Mrs. Wall, auto with Mr. Cox, and video with Mr. Henshaw.  Students must sign up before Friday with these teachers.  If you are a senior, this recovers any previous absences.  SATURDAY UNIVERSITY is from 8:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.  Please be on time.  Classes are closed to students at 8:15 a.m.  Enter through the gates between the cafeteria and auto shop.

3.       ATTENTION ALL CLUB PRESIDENTS AND ADVISORS!  If you want your club to have a group photo in the YEARBOOK, you need to schedule it, get the word to your club, and tell Mr. Feehan when you want to take the photo; these must be completed by March 16th!

4.       FRENCH CLUB MEETING on Friday March 2nd at lunch in Room 47!

5.       WINTER RECOGNITION ASSEMBLY is this Friday March 2nd from 10:12 a.m. - 10:42 a.m.  Bell Schedule will be in the bulletin on Friday.

6.       Buff Ball is this Friday March 2nd! 6pm in the Gym. FREE with an ASB sticker, $2 without an ASB sticker. We have a lot of teams participating! It's going to be a great time, come join the fun!

7.       SCICON:  for those students who are GOING TO BE SCICON COUNSELORS THIS SEMESTER, there will be a SCICON TRAINING on THURSDAY MARCH 8th during 1st period in the upstairs library.  Signups are in the Counseling Office.

8.       ALL CSF CURRENT LIFETIME MEMBERS:  The YEARBOOK PICTURE will be taken on Friday March 9th in front of Ranger Hall.  Be there at 12:35 p.m. sharp, and wear your CSF t-shirts!  If you would like to buy one, there are a few left.  See Mrs. Cheatwood in Room 108.
PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1.       Hey Redwood!  WRITING ON THE WALLS IS BACK!  Yes, the annual RED INK WRITING AND ART CONTEST is open for this year.  Rules and submission guidelines can be found in Room 103 or by emailing mlink at vusd.us<mailto:mlink at vusd.us>.  Submissions can be turned in or shared at that same address.  Any type of writing or art is welcome.  Anyone who is a current Redwood student can participate.  See your work published and hanging on the walls around campus, submit to WRITING ON THE WALLS before March 3rd.

2.       Travel to Peru!  If you're interested in earning 3 units of college credit while visiting Machu Picchu and exploring the Amazon Jungle, then come to a PARENT MEETING on March 6th at 5:30 p.m. in Room P3 at Sierra Vista Campus or see Mrs. Yates!  Don't miss out on this great opportunity!

3.       Redwood family and friends.  Don't pay for a plastic bag at the store!  Support REDWOOD SOFTBALL during their Mixed Bags Fundraiser, now through March 6th. 4.       INTERMEDIATE & ADVANCED DANCE AUDITIONS: Tuesday, March 6th 5:00-6:00 p.m. in the dance room.  This audition is for incoming 8th graders and students that are not already enrolled in a Redwood dance class.  Students should wear dance attire & jazz shoes.  Bring the completed packet with you to auditions.  Students will be placed into one of the following classes:  Introduction to Dance, Intermediate Dance or Advanced Dance.

5.       DANCE TEAM AUDITION INFORMATION *Dance Team (Dance Force) 8th Grade Orientation/Skills Screening Tuesday, March 6th 6:00 p.m. in the dance room.  This is for 8th graders interested in trying out for the dance team.  Students should wear dance attire & jazz shoes.  *Dance Team (Dance Force) Audition Workshop Tuesday, March 6th 6:20-8:20 p.m.  Dance Team (Dance Force) Auditions Wednesday, March 7th 5:00-8:30 p.m. This audition/workshop is for 8th - 11th grade advanced level dancers. Packets will be available Feb. 9th in Redwood Front Office.  Students should wear solid color dance attire, jazz shoes & hair secured neatly.  Students will be placed into one of the following classes:  Introduction to Dance, Intermediate Dance, Advanced Dance, or Dance Performance (Dance Team)

6.       Visalia Unified School District seeks to form a student task force to provide input and insights to the superintendent and the board on issues that are of high interest to students.  The membership of this task force will be comprised of 20-25 VUSD high school students who: , Are currently in the 10th or 11th grade, Are from all of our traditional and educational options high schools Represent a wide range of student viewpoints, beliefs, backgrounds and experiences.  Would like to learn and provide input and insights to the superintendent and the board of education to assist them in making decisions that positively affect our students. This task force will meet 4-6 times a year with dates and times to be determined.  We will seek students who can serve a 1 or 2 year term on the task force.  Our first topic will be VUSD dress code. 7.       AP TESTING REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN.  AP Testing will take place May 7 - May 18.  To register for an AP Exam, students must complete a registration form and pay a $15, non-refundable, deposit per exam.  Registration forms are in the Counseling Office outside of Ms. Ashford's office.  The deadline to register is Thursday, March 22 at 3:30 p.m.  The cost is $94 per exam and any remaining balance not paid by March 22nd, will be due on the day of the exam.  If you qualify for free or reduced lunch or meet Federal Income Guidelines, you may qualify for a fee waiver.  All students qualify for a one-time fee waiver for one exam.  Please see Ms. Ashford to apply for other fee waivers.  If you have any questions regarding AP testing, please contact Ms. Ashford.

8.       ENCHANTED EVENING PROM DRESS GIVE-a- WAY IS HERE!  Saturday March 17th from 6:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Wyndham Hotel located in Visalia.  It is for Junior and Senior girls - your name must be submitted by the school before the day of the event.  ALL DRESSES ARE FREE!!!!  1000 plus dresses, Sizes 0-30 in many colors, short and long.  Every girl receives a dress and (1) accessory (either a purse or jewelry)!  If anyone wants to help you can donate your clean, gently used dresses, jewelry and purses!  This will help make another young lady's Prom event and night, a night to remember!  SIGN UPS ARE IN THE COUNSELING OFFICE!

9.       There is still time.  Time for what?  Time to get jiggy, aka swimmy.  (Is that a word?)  That's right REDWOOD'S ROBOTICS CLUB will be fielding three teams in this year's U.S. Navy's Seaperch competition on April 15th.  So, if you like building underwater robots for the sheer joy of winning join us on Monday or Tuesday after school in the Cafeteria.  We'b get'n jiggy in'da pool.  Don't you just love how Tom, Huck and Jim talked?

10.   TUX-N-TAILS is partnering again this year with ENCHANTED EVENING for the upcoming Prom.  They will be offering a discounted tuxedo rental to SENIORS.  A wide range of options in style, colors and price.  SIGN UPS ARE IN THE COUNSELING OFFICE:  when purchasing your Tux you must show a school ID, be a senior.  Be fitted two weeks prior to Prom (vest and tie colors may be chosen closer to Prom).

11.   REMINDER:  The XL SAT/ACT Prep Course is officially running!  There are MANDATORY MEETINGS every Friday in the month of March.  If you signed up for the course and have yet to set up an account you are at risk of losing your account.  Please visit the XL Office in the upstairs library if you have any questions and/or concerns.

12.   BOOK DRIVE!  Please donate your old children's books to Valley Children's Hospital!  If you have any children's books lying around at home, or if you're kind enough to purchase some for this cause, please drop them off in designated boxes located in the front office and library.  You can also find donation boxes in Room 47 (Mrs. Newman) and Room 12 (Mr. Harris) on the Sierra Vista Campus.

13.   The English part of the CASSPP TEST FOR ALL JUNIORS will be administered from Tuesday March 13th through Friday March 16th.  Juniors will take the state test in their Junior English Class.  The following is the schoolwide block schedule for all Redwood students during the four testing days.
