TODAY:

1.       MOCK TRIAL Q&A MEETING for interested new members TODAY at 3:30 p.m. in Room 44.  We will be going over basic information about the team, sign-up and try out information for our competition.

2.       First FBLA MEETING of the year is TODAY in Room 74 at Lunch.  Come find out what FBLA is all about and enjoy a slice of pizza!  All Rangers are welcome!

3.       HISTORY DAY CLUB MEETING TODAY in room 33 during lunch.

NEW ANNOUNCEMENT:

1.       CHOIR BOOSTERS MEETING Tuesday September 3rd at 6:00 pm in the choir room. Please join us as we make last minute decisions about Stardust. Can't wait to see you there!!

2.       PERU TRIP & ICELAND TRIP- If you are interested in exploring Peru or Iceland while earning 3 units of college credit, bring your parents and come to an informational meeting on Thursday September 5th at 6pm in room P3 (sierra vista) or see Mrs. Yates!

3.       ART CLUB- The FIRST MEETING of the ART CLUB will be on Wednesday September 4th right after school in room P3 (Sierra Vista).

4.       What? There's a COLORING CLUB at Redwood? How did I not know about this? Well, you see, we took a year off because our advisor was tired but now we're going to see if there's enough people interested to start it up again. Oh cool. When's the FIRST MEETING? Thursday September 5th. Room 103. Anyone and everyone is welcome. Coloring Club, it's like recess for your mind.

5.       TEEN AGE REPUBLICANS will be having our inaugural meeting to kick off the year on September 4th at lunch in room 103. Homecoming and ideas for the year will be discussed. Come join us, everyone is welcome.

6.       If you're looking for safe, fun, creative place where you can express yourself then do we have a club for you. RED INK, The REDWOOD CREATIVE WRITING CLUB is having our first meeting of the year Tuesday September 10th, Room 103 at lunch. We'll be electing officers, discussing homecoming and being creative.  Come join us!

7.       UNIVERSITY OF REDLANDS will be on campus September 11th during 2nd period in the Upstairs Library.  Sign up in the Counseling Office.

8.       UNIVERSITY OF SAN FRANCISCO representative will be on campus September 12th during 5th period in the upstairs library.  Sign up in the Counseling Office.

9.       BIOLA UNIVERSITY will be on campus September 13rh during 4th period in the upstairs library.  Sign up in the Counseling Office.

10. AES Engineer Scholarship
Criteria:  Future leaders in all areas attending a college or university, it is not required
to be an engineer to receive this scholarship

11. Gates Scholarship:
Criteria:*A high school senior-From at least one of the following ethnicities: African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American*Pell-eligible-A US citizen, national, or permanent resident
*In good academic standing with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) *Additionally, a student must plan to enroll full-time, in a four-year degree program, at a US accredited, not-for-profit, private or public college or university.
Ideal Candidate  - An ideal candidate will have:
*An outstanding academic record in high school (in the top 10% of his/her graduating class)
*Demonstrated leadership ability (e.g., as shown through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities)
*Exceptional personal success skills (e.g., emotional maturity, motivation, perseverance, etc.)

12. Haz La U Scholarship
Amount: up to $15,000 grant
*Be of Hispanic heritage.  *Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States with a valid Social Security Number at the time of application. All legal permanent residents must submit a copy of their valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551 (not expired).  *Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. *Be pursuing or plan to pursue your first undergraduate degree *Have plans to enroll full-time in a degree seeking program at a two or four year U.S. accredited institution in the U.S., Puerto Rico, U. S. 13. Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Scholarship
Amount:  $1,000 to $5,000 per year
Criteria:  Applicants must be:  *Current high school (or home-schooled) seniors attending school in the U.S. (or select DoD schools)  *U.S. Citizens, U.S. Nationals, U.S. Permanent Residents, Refugees, Asylees, Cuban-Haitian Entrants, or Humanitarian Parolees  *Anticipating completion of high school diploma at the time of application  *Planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution  Application Process: Apply at https://webportalapp.com/sp/login/ccsf

14. Elk's National Foundation Most Valuable Student

Amount:  $1,000-$12,500 per year

PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS:

4.       CALLING ALL FRESHMAN!!! Are you excited for your first football game?! Join Link Crew this Friday August 30th from 4:30-6:30pm on the Sierra Vista football field for our Annual tailgate. First 150 students with ID's get free food, ALL freshman who make it out can enjoy activities, music, and a wristband for FREE entry into the Bowl for the games. We can't wait to see you out there!!!

5.       ATTENTION GIRLS INTERESTED IN RANGER SOFTBALL: Conditioning will begin Tuesday September 3RD, 3:40-5:00 p.m. for girls NOT in a Fall sport. Conditioning days Tuesdays & Thursdays.  For more information come to the meeting or see Coach Rooney in room 56 or Coach Sanchez in room P2 at Sierra Vista.

6.       CSF MEMBERSHIP DRIVE for Spring 2019 grades will be held the week of September 3rd through September 9th.  Bring the following to Room 108 during lunch:  *completed application form (pick up early in Room 108) *official copy of Spring semester report card or a transcript (juniors and seniors) from the office requested 1 week prior to when needed by signing up  *a donation of one hardback book for the Redwood Library and  *$5 to cover the graduation materials fee.  Monday September 9th is the deadline to apply.  Freshmen are not eligible to apply for membership until January 2020 but may attend meetings and activities. The first CSF meeting this year will be announced later.  CSF Rangers RocK!!

7.       REDWOOD BOOK DRIVE!  CSF is sponsoring a book drive benefit our fantastic library.  If you have a almost new hardback book, please bring it to Room 108 now through September 9th.  Monday September 9th is the deadline.  Please note that we will not be taking softback covers. 8.       STUDENTS:  RHS MINI COLLEGE FAIR will be held on Tuesday September 10th during 6th period in the Cafeteria.  Several college representatives will be on campus for you to talk to.  Sign up in the Counseling Office.

9.       STUDENTS A MESSAGE FROM REDWOOD ADMINISTRATION:  Just a friendly reminder that when you are crossing streets near Redwood ieg. Main, Mineral King, Giddings, and Conyer. Please you use all assigned crosswalks, please do not run in front of cars, observe the lights and only cross on the green light. This is for your safety as well as those driving cars. Thank you.

10.   RHS FAMILY SPORTS PASSES are on sale!  For 2 People $150 and for 4 People $250.  You can purchase them in the RHS Finance Office.

11.   Be a SCICON COUNSELOR!   Come to the Counseling Office to sign up!  JUNIORS AND SENIORS!

12.   STUDENT LOCKERS:  If you are in need of a locker you may check one out in the office with Mrs. Gonzalez, before school, during lunch and afterschool only.

13.   OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS:  For students who need Official Transcripts throughout the year, we now have an online Official Transcript Request system.  It is located on the Redwood Website Homepage (www.vusd.org/Redwood<http://www.vusd.org/Redwood>) under the Quick Links on the right-hand side.  Official Transcripts will be directly mailed home so you must request ahead of time.

14.   CURRENT HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS - TRANSCRIPTS will be ready for pick up in the Counseling Office five (5) days from the date requested.

15.   THE STUDENT STORE IS NOW OPEN!  Located near the Quad in the Business Building the Student Store offers many snacks and food for you to enjoy.  Come try our pasta, salads, sandwiches, Gatorade, and even our awesome Slushies!  Open daily at lunch.

16.   BOYS TENNIS:  Parking passes available for the Conyer/Mineral King lot for Ranger football games this season.  $35 gets one car reserved parking for the five home games and any Redwood playoff game(s) at Mineral King Bowl.  Please email Russ Brown at rbrown at vusd.org<mailto:rbrown at vusd.org> if interested and have $35 cash when you show up for Friday's home game.
