1.      COMCAST LEADERS AND ACHIEVERS(r) SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Criteria:
Have a demonstrated commitment to community service, outstanding qualities in character, integrity and leadership. Be enrolled as a high school senior. Reside in a community served by Comcast and/or in one of the following NBC or Telemundo markets: Boston, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, El Paso, Los Angeles, McAllen (TX.), New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Antonio, San Diego, and Washington, D.C. Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university or vocational-technical college in the United States for the entire 2019-2020 academic year. 2.      EECU EDUCATIONAL GRANT SCHOLARSHIP
Amount:  $2,000
Criteria:  You must be a member, joint member or joint owner of Educational Employees Credit Union a minimum of 6 months prior to application close date. Account must be in good standing.

3.      WE KNOW YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR IT. WELL THE WAIT IS OVER. Red Ink and the Redwood Gigantea are sponsoring the Fall Flash Fiction Contest. Tell an entire story, beginning, middle, and end in 55 words or less. 3 entries per person max please. Winners will be published. All entries due TODAY by Dec 6 at 11:59. Share with or email to mlink at vusd.us<mailto:mlink at vusd.us>. Think you're up for the challenge? Do you have what it takes? Throw down that story man! This could be fun.

4.      HEY GAMERS! The Computer & eSports Smash Tournament is TODAY in the Cafeteria 4-8 ! Entry is 10 dollars to play in the tournament, there will be prizes for 1st-3rd place! Make sure to get a registration form from Mr. C room 45 academic building! Everyone is welcome to the event, students 2 dollars, non-students 5 dollars. Family and friends are welcome too! GameQore will be in the house again with D&D, Magic the Gathering, and Pokemon free to play! See you there!

5.      SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY COLLEGE (SJVC) will be hosting an informational presentation on Thursday, December 5th at 2:30pm during 6th period in the second floor of the library. They will be speaking about the different programs they offer, resources and application process. Sign up in the counseling office with Mrs. Hayslett.

6.      "THE CLOCK STRIKES AT MIDNIGHT" WINTER FORMAL DANCE: Will be held on SATURDAY, December 7TH from 8:00p.m.-11:00 p.m. in the Golden West High School Gym. TICKETS ON SALE Monday, December 2nd - Friday, December 6th. You can purchase tickets in the Finance Office with Mrs. Bruder before school, during lunch, or after 6th period. There will be NO SALES afterschool on Friday, December 6th, only before school and lunch. Tickets are sold as single tickets only and are $20 w/ASB, $30 w/o ASB & $50 at the door. Credit/Debit card payments are not available. If your date to the dance is NOT a VUSD student you must have an approved guest pass before you can purchase a ticket for them. You can pick up guest passes in the Finance Office. All students must be cleared of all fines in order to be eligible to purchase a ticket. In addition, you must have a current student I.D. to purchase your ticket and at the door to be admitted to the dance. No exceptions!

NEW ANNOUNCEMENT:



1.      PTSA MEETING Monday, December 9. 12:15pm-1:15pm in Redwood Library. Everyone is welcome. You're welcome to drop in the meeting at any time. Guest speaker this month is Dr. Jesus Gonzalez, Redwood Assistant Principal of Instruction and Curriculum.

2.      BOYS SOCCER MEETING in the library Wednesday, December 11th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.
PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1.      DO YOU LIKE TO BE SELF-SUPPORTIVE? Are you independent? If so, then come join Mr. Cox in Auto Shop this Saturday, December 7th from 8:00am-12:00pm and learn how to be independent and self-supportive if your car ever has a flat tire! Don't be the person that waits two hours for help to arrive! If you have your own car, bring it so you can learn how to install YOUR spare tire!

2.      ATTENTTION ALL STUDENTS! Come by the lost and found located in the nurse's office if you lost or misplaced an item. All items that are not picked up will be donated at the end of this semester.

3.      ATTENTION GIRLS: if you are interested in playing softball for the Rangers in the spring, tryouts for girls not involved in another sport will be as follows; Varsity: Dec. 9-10. JV: Dec. 11-13. You must be athletically cleared to participate. If you have questions see Coach Sanchez at Sierra Vista Rm.P2, or Coach Rooney Metal Shop Rm. 56.

4.      TIS THE SEASON FOR GIVING TO OTHERS: Link Crew will be selling Holly Grams December 9-13 for $1.00 during lunch at the quad. They will be delivered back on the 17th, Tuesday before finals. Make sure to buy one to surprise your friends with!

5.      CHOIR CONCERT will be on Tuesday, December 10th at 7:00pm at the L.J. Williams Theatre.

6.      THE NEXT CSF MEETING IS WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 11TH AT LUNCH IN THE GYM! Wear your CSF shirt and plan on having a great time! Topics will include the membership drive, graduation requirements, a community service opportunity, student participation and trivia questions! PLEASE BE ON TIME! Activities will start at 12:35 pm!!

7.      ASB IS HOSTING THEIR ANNUAL "GIFTS OF GIVING- TRICKY TRAY" event Friday, December 13th at 5:30pm.  The raffle will be drawn at 6:30pm.  It is going to be a great event for people of all ages.  We will have food vendors, games and entertainment.  We are lucky to have amazing performances by our Ranger Choir and Band. Come out and enjoy a fun night with friends and family.  All money raised will be donated to CASA Foster Care and Transition Children's Services.  If you or someone you know would like to donate a basket please stop by room 31 so we can give you more information.

8.      SAVE THE DATE!!!  The Redwood Ranger Marching Band and Color Guard's 15th Annual Holiday Home Tour will be December 14th from 12pm-5pm.  Stay tuned for information on ticket sales!!!

9.      HOLIDAY ORCHESTRA CONCERT will be on Tuesday December 17th at 7:00 p.m. El Diamante Theater.

10.  BAND CONCERT will be on Wednesday, December 18th at 7:0opm at the L.J. Williams Theatre.

11.  FINAL EXAMS will be December 18th, 19th and 20th.  Bell Schedule will be in the bulletin on those days.

12.  FOR THE LOVE OF ART! - Are you or do you know a high school student artist looking to make $ on their art?  Visalia Education Foundation (VEF) can help students sell their art...it's easy and fun!  Check out VEF's website for information on their upcoming art show and sale, For the Love of Art at http://www.visaliaedfoundation.org/ . The deadline for submission is Thursday, February 27th, but it's not too early to start thinking about what you'll create!

SENIORS:


1.      ATTENTION CSF SENIORS who will achieve 100% lifetime status with first semester grades: If you are interested in applying for the 2020 Seymour, Sealbearer, or Redwood CSF Scholarships, please come by room 108 ASAP to pick up the application qualifications and instructions.  The deadline for applying for these 3 types of scholarships is Friday, December 20th. One of the requirements is a double spaced letter from a community service organization. 2.      1,000 WORDS FOR $1,000!  The Michelson Memorial Award is open to all seniors who are current members of CSF.  Members have until December 22nd to submit essays in response to the prompt published at the CSF state website:   https://csf-cjsf.org/csf-awards/.  Our chapter number is 512 and will be required to submit an entry.  For questions, see Mrs. Cheatwood in room 108.
SCHOLARSHIPS:

1.       JUNIORS AND SENIORS: College Board has launched the College Board Opportunity Scholarship. Please visit https://opportunity.collegeboard.org/ for additional information. Scholarship deadlines vary.

2.       FOOT LOCKER SCHOLARSHIP

Amount: Up to $20,000

Criteria:
*         Be entering college in the Fall of 2019 as a Freshman at a four-year school for an undergraduate degree.
*         Be currently involved in high school sports, intramural sports, or community based sports.
*         Have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
*         Be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident (you will be asked to prove citizenship and age if you win).
*         Not be an employee, officer or director of Foot Locker, Inc., or any of its subsidiaries, or a member of the immediate family of such an employee, officer or director.

3.       The Burger King Scholars



AMOUNT: SCHOLARSHIPS UP TO $50,000. Criteria: high school senior with a cumulative 2.5 GPA or above, and must be active in their community through volunteering, sports, clubs and/or religious organizations.

4.       EDISON INTERNATIONAL'S $1.2 MILLION EDISON SCHOLARS PROGRAM will award $40,000 scholarships paid over four years to 30 high school seniors planning to major in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) fields at accredited four-year colleges and universities. The Edison Scholars Program eligibility requirements include: High school senior must live or attend a high school in Southern California Edison (SCE)'s service area or attend an eligible high school surrounding SCE's San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, plan to be a full-time undergraduate student majoring in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer and Information Services, Management Information Systems, Natural Resources and Conservation or Physical Sciences and demonstrate financial need.
