DAILY BULLETIN

TODAY:

1.       JUNIORS: The PSAT will be held on Wednesday October 16th; cost is $18.00 per student.  REGISTRATION STARTS TODAY AND WILL CLOSE ONCE ALL SPOTS ARE FILLED.  SPACE IS LIMITED AND IS ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST SIGN-UP BASIS. Students can pay $18 in the Finance Center (Before School, After school and at lunch).  Cash or Card only.  No checks.  Students may also pay online through the Ranger Web Store.  https://www.vusd.org/redwood  There is a small convenience fee.  The Fall PSAT is designed for 11th grade students only.  9th and 10th grade students will have the opportunity to take the PSAT in Spring 2020. There are a limited number of fee waivers available.  See Mr. Matta regarding fee waiver guidelines.

2.       If you're looking for safe, fun, creative place where you can express yourself then do we have a club for you. RED INK, The REDWOOD CREATIVE WRITING CLUB is having our first meeting of the year TODAY, Room 103 at lunch. We'll be electing officers, discussing homecoming and being creative.  Come join us!

3.       A UCLA REPRESENTATIVE will be on campus TODAY during 5th period in the upstairs library.  Sign up in the Counseling Office.

4.       FCCLA (FAMILY, CAREER AND COMMUNITY LEADERS OF AMERICA) will be having a MEETINGTODAY in Room 29 at lunch to elect officers and Homecoming nominees.

5.       STUDENTS:  RHS MINI COLLEGE FAIR will be held TODAY during 6th period in the Cafeteria.  Several college representatives will be on campus for you to talk to.  Sign up in the Counseling Office.

NEW ANNOUNCEMENT:

1.       POTENTIAL MOCK TRIAL NEW TEAM MEMBERS must pick up an audition packet this FRIDAY September 13th after school from Ms. McFadden in Rm 44.  Tryouts will be held next Tuesday, after school from 3:30 to 5:30pm in Room 44.

2.       2019 HOMECOMING DRESS UP DAYS:  Monday - Power Rangers (class colors Seniors: Red; Juniors: Yellow; Sophomore: Pink; Fr4shmen: Black; Staff: Green.  Tuesday: ICarly (vsco, e-boy, tik tok trends).  Wednesday: The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air (90;s).  Thursday: Drake & Josh (duo day). Friday: Blues Clues (Ranger Pride, spirit day).

3.       There will be a baseball informational meeting on Monday September 16th at 6 PM at the Varsity Baseball field.  This MEETING is for PARENTS OF STUDENTS planning on trying out for baseball in the spring and for those who will participate in fall ball.  FALL BALL will begin Tuesday September 17th at the varsity baseball field. Time 3:40. If you have any questions see Coach Andrews or Coach Blair.

4.       RHS INTERACT - MEETING on Wednesday September 11th during lunch at the library. Please go to your student portal, Ms. Contreras has been posting important information in our google classroom. If you need to add it the code is: 8ir0el.

5.       JUNIORS AND SENIORS: College Board has launched the College Board Opportunity Scholarship. Please visit https://opportunity.collegeboard.org/ for additional information. Scholarship deadlines vary.

6.       CSF Membership Drive has been extended to Thursday, September 12th.  No applications will be accepted on Tuesday, September 10th due to Mrs. Cheatwood being absent that day. PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1.       Redwood High School is in the process of electing parent/guardian members to the SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL (SSC). If you are interested in being a member of the School Site Council and would like to nominate yourself, please contact Mani Tomola at 559-730-7367 or email mtomola01 at vusd.org<mailto:mtomola01 at vusd.org> by Wednesday, September 11th.

2.       UNIVERSITY OF REDLANDS will be on campus September 11th during 2nd period in the Upstairs Library.  Sign up in the Counseling Office.

3.       Ok, do-over. TARS TEEN AGE REPUBLICANS is having our for reals, "official" FIRST MEETING Wednesday  September 11th.  Come find out what we're all about.   Get on our remind Text  @rhstars to 81010.

4.       UNIVERSITY OF SAN FRANCISCO representative will be on campus September 12th during 5th period in the upstairs library.  Sign up in the Counseling Office.

5.       BIOLA UNIVERSITY will be on campus September 13rh during 4th period in the upstairs library.  Sign up in the Counseling Office.

6.       SCICON TRAINING will be on Tuesday September 17th during 2nd period in the upstairs Library for those who want to be a Scicon Counselor.  Sign up in the Counseling Office.

7.       Do you have a furry friend at home that you adore? Do you dream of owning a pet of your own? Whether you are a proud pet owner or someone who would love to have a four legged companion someday, you can easily help shelter animals by participating in CSF'S DONATION DRIVE for the Valley Oak SPCA. The SPCA seeks donations of dog and cat toys, cans of Pedigree and Friskies food, small bags of dry Purina kitten chow, puppy potty pads, and other items; please bring donations to room 108 between SEPTEMBER 19 AND OCTOBER 11. Your donations will go directly to sweeties such as Carmen the cat and Toby the dog. P.S: Many of these items can be purchased at your local Dollar Tree for just a buck!

8.       AP TESTING REGISTRATION WILL BEGIN TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1st.  AP Testing will take place May 4th - May 15th.  To register for an AP Exam, students must pay the full $94 fee in the Finance office or online through the Redwood webstore.  Registration forms are in the Counseling Office outside of Ms. Molina's office.  The deadline to register is Tuesday, November 5 at 3:30 p.m.  If you qualify for free or reduced lunch or meet Federal Income Guidelines, you may qualify for a fee waiver.  Please come see Ms. Molina to apply for the fee waiver.  If you have any questions regarding AP testing please see Ms. Molina.

9.       Redwood Students, do you need volunteer hours for your service club or college entrance requirements? Mineral King Elementary School's PTA is looking for students interested in volunteering for their annual carnival on October 4th from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. If you or your club is interested in volunteering please call Mary Garcia from Mineral King PTA at 559-799-9161.

10.   Be a SCICON COUNSELOR!   Come to the Counseling Office to sign up!  JUNIORS AND SENIORS!

11.   STUDENT LOCKERS:  If you are in need of a locker you may check one out in the office with Mrs. Gonzalez, before school, during lunch and afterschool only.

12.   OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS:  For students who need Official Transcripts throughout the year, we now have an online Official Transcript Request system.  It is located on the Redwood Website Homepage (www.vusd.org/Redwood<http://www.vusd.org/Redwood>) under the Quick Links on the right-hand side.  Official Transcripts can be picked up at the office.

13.   CURRENT HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS - TRANSCRIPTS will be ready for pick up in the Counseling Office five (5) days from the date requested.

14.   ATTENTION SENIORS, JUNIORS AND SOPHOMORES:  Just a reminder that if you accumulate 10 unexcused tardies and or 10 Unverified/Unexcused Absences then your off campus lunch privileges will be revoked for the remainder of the grading period. Please get to class and be on time. If you have absences for being sick, court, or family emergencies please have your parents call the attendance office. Freshman if you accumulate 10 unexcused tardies you will serve detention to make up missed time during lunch.

SENIORS:
SCHOLARSHIPS:

1.    AES Engineer Scholarship
Criteria:  Future leaders in all areas attending a college or university, it is not required
to be an engineer to receive this scholarship

2.    Gates Scholarship:
Criteria:*A high school senior-From at least one of the following ethnicities: African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American*Pell-eligible-A US citizen, national, or permanent resident
*In good academic standing with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) *Additionally, a student must plan to enroll full-time, in a four-year degree program, at a US accredited, not-for-profit, private or public college or university.
Ideal Candidate  - An ideal candidate will have:
*An outstanding academic record in high school (in the top 10% of his/her graduating class)
*Demonstrated leadership ability (e.g., as shown through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities)
*Exceptional personal success skills (e.g., emotional maturity, motivation, perseverance, etc.)

3.    Haz La U Scholarship
Amount: up to $15,000 grant
*Be of Hispanic heritage.  *Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States with a valid Social Security Number at the time of application. All legal permanent residents must submit a copy of their valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551 (not expired).  *Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. *Be pursuing or plan to pursue your first undergraduate degree *Have plans to enroll full-time in a degree seeking program at a two or four year U.S. accredited institution in the U.S., Puerto Rico, U. S. 4.    Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Scholarship
Amount:  $1,000 to $5,000 per year
Criteria:  Applicants must be:  *Current high school (or home-schooled) seniors attending school in the U.S. (or select DoD schools)  *U.S. Citizens, U.S. Nationals, U.S. Permanent Residents, Refugees, Asylees, Cuban-Haitian Entrants, or Humanitarian Parolees  *Anticipating completion of high school diploma at the time of application  *Planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution  Application Process: Apply at https://webportalapp.com/sp/login/ccsf

5.    Elk's National Foundation Most Valuable Student

Amount:  $1,000-$12,500 per year
