DAILY BULLETIN
9/13/19

TODAY:

1.       JUNIORS: The PSAT will be held on Wednesday October 16th; cost is $18.00 per student.  REGISTRATION STARTS TODAY AND WILL CLOSE ONCE ALL SPOTS ARE FILLED.  SPACE IS LIMITED AND IS ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST SIGN-UP BASIS. Students can pay $18 in the Finance Center (Before School, After school and at lunch).  Cash or Card only.  No checks.  Students may also pay online through the Ranger Web Store.  https://www.vusd.org/redwood  There is a small convenience fee.  The Fall PSAT is designed for 11th grade students only.  9th and 10th grade students will have the opportunity to take the PSAT in Spring 2020. There are a limited number of fee waivers available.  See Mr. Matta regarding fee waiver guidelines.

2.       BIOLA UNIVERSITY will be on campus TODAY during 4th period in the upstairs library.  Sign up in the Counseling Office.

3.       POTENTIAL MOCK TRIAL NEW TEAM MEMBERS must pick up an audition packet TODAY after school from Ms. McFadden in Rm 44.  Tryouts will be held next Tuesday September 24th, after school from 3:30 to 5:30pm in Room 44.

4.       There will be a brief recognition ceremony TODAY at lunch in the quad for the BOYS TRACK AND FIELD VALLEY CHAMPIONSHIP.  Student athletes will be recognized and will receive their championship rings.  Please come out to support their accomplishment from the 2019 championship season.

NEW ANNOUNCEMENT:

1.       HIP HOP CLUB MEETINGS September 18th and 25th at lunch in the dance room.  Preparing for Homecoming.

2.       The RHS TEENAGE REPUBLICAN CLUB is meeting Wednesday, September 18th at lunch in Room 103 to discuss our plans for the Homecoming parade and other activities for the year. Come see what we're all about!

3.       RED INK is MEETING at lunch in room 103 on Tuesday September 17th. If you want to work on the Homecoming float please attend.
PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1.       DANCE FORCE BOOSTER MEETING, Monday, September 16th 6:00 p.m. in the library.

2.       There will be a baseball informational meeting on Monday September 16th at 6 PM at the Varsity Baseball field.  This MEETING is for PARENTS OF STUDENTS planning on trying out for baseball in the spring and for those who will participate in fall ball.  FALL BALL will begin Tuesday September 17th at the varsity baseball field. Time 3:40. If you have any questions see Coach Andrews or Coach Blair.

3.       BOYS SOCCER MEETING Monday September 16th at 2:30pm at the soccer equipment room.

4.       2019 HOMECOMING DRESS UP DAYS:  Monday September 23rd - Power Rangers (class colors Seniors: Red; Juniors: Yellow; Sophomore: Pink; Fr4shmen: Black; Staff: Green.  Tuesday: ICarly (vsco, e-boy, tik tok trends).  Wednesday: The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air (90's).  Thursday: Drake & Josh (duo day). Friday: Blues Clues (Ranger Pride, spirit day).

5.       SCICON TRAINING will be on Tuesday September 17th during 2nd period in the upstairs Library for those who want to be a Scicon Counselor.  Sign up in the Counseling Office.

6.       BOYS WRESTLING:  IMPORTANT INFORMATIONAL MEETING on Tuesday September 17th in the wrestling room during lunch.  We will go over: Schedules, practice times, spirit packs, and expectations.

7.       GIRLS BASKETBALL will have an open gym practice on Wednesday, September 18th from 5:30-7:30pm.

8.       Do you have a furry friend at home that you adore? Do you dream of owning a pet of your own? Whether you are a proud pet owner or someone who would love to have a four legged companion someday, you can easily help shelter animals by participating in CSF'S DONATION DRIVE for the Valley Oak SPCA. The SPCA seeks donations of dog and cat toys, cans of Pedigree and Friskies food, small bags of dry Purina kitten chow, puppy potty pads, and other items; please bring donations to room 108 between SEPTEMBER 19 AND OCTOBER 11. Your donations will go directly to sweeties such as Carmen the cat and Toby the dog. P.S: Many of these items can be purchased at your local Dollar Tree for just a buck!

9.       CAL GRANT OP-OUT:  With the implementation of Assembly Bill 2160, California public high schools are required to submit a Cal Grant high school Grade Point Average (GPA) for all graduating seniors, unless the student or parent has opted out of the submission process.  If you do not want Redwood High School to report a GPA, please have your student pick up the opt-out form from their counselor or the Redwood Counseling Office.  Opt-out forms must be returned by September 23rd.

10.  ATTENTION SENIORS AND JUNIORS:  Elizabeth Tinoco-Rodríguez, FRESNO STATE AMBASSADOR plans to be on campus every Tuesday starting September 24th.  She will be in the RHS library from 9am-1pm.  She is available to answer any application, major and general questions regarding Fresno St.

11.   AP TESTING REGISTRATION WILL BEGIN TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1st.  AP Testing will take place May 4th - May 15th.  To register for an AP Exam, students must pay the full $94 fee in the Finance office or online through the Redwood webstore.  Registration forms are in the Counseling Office outside of Ms. Molina's office.  The deadline to register is Tuesday, November 5 at 3:30 p.m.  If you qualify for free or reduced lunch or meet Federal Income Guidelines, you may qualify for a fee waiver.  Please come see Ms. Molina to apply for the fee waiver.  If you have any questions regarding AP testing please see Ms. Molina.

12.   Redwood Students, do you need volunteer hours for your service club or college entrance requirements? Mineral King Elementary School's PTA is looking for students interested in volunteering for their annual carnival on October 4th from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. If you or your club is interested in volunteering please call Mary Garcia from Mineral King PTA at 559-799-9161.

13.   ATTENTION SENIORS, JUNIORS AND SOPHOMORES:  Just a reminder that if you accumulate 10 unexcused tardies and or 10 Unverified/Unexcused Absences then your off campus lunch privileges will be revoked for the remainder of the grading period. Please get to class and be on time. If you have absences for being sick, court, or family emergencies please have your parents call the attendance office. Freshman if you accumulate 10 unexcused tardies you will serve detention to make up missed time during lunch.

SENIORS:
SCHOLARSHIPS:

1.       JUNIORS AND SENIORS: College Board has launched the College Board Opportunity Scholarship. Please visit https://opportunity.collegeboard.org/ for additional information. Scholarship deadlines vary.

2.    AES Engineer Scholarship
Criteria:  Future leaders in all areas attending a college or university, it is not required
to be an engineer to receive this scholarship

3.    Gates Scholarship:
Criteria:*A high school senior-From at least one of the following ethnicities: African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American*Pell-eligible-A US citizen, national, or permanent resident
*In good academic standing with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) *Additionally, a student must plan to enroll full-time, in a four-year degree program, at a US accredited, not-for-profit, private or public college or university.
Ideal Candidate  - An ideal candidate will have:
*An outstanding academic record in high school (in the top 10% of his/her graduating class)
*Demonstrated leadership ability (e.g., as shown through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities)
*Exceptional personal success skills (e.g., emotional maturity, motivation, perseverance, etc.)

4.    Haz La U Scholarship
Amount: up to $15,000 grant
*Be of Hispanic heritage.  *Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States with a valid Social Security Number at the time of application. All legal permanent residents must submit a copy of their valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551 (not expired).  *Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. *Be pursuing or plan to pursue your first undergraduate degree *Have plans to enroll full-time in a degree seeking program at a two or four year U.S. accredited institution in the U.S., Puerto Rico, U. S. 5.    Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Scholarship
Amount:  $1,000 to $5,000 per year
Criteria:  Applicants must be:  *Current high school (or home-schooled) seniors attending school in the U.S. (or select DoD schools)  *U.S. Citizens, U.S. Nationals, U.S. Permanent Residents, Refugees, Asylees, Cuban-Haitian Entrants, or Humanitarian Parolees  *Anticipating completion of high school diploma at the time of application  *Planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution  Application Process: Apply at https://webportalapp.com/sp/login/ccsf

6.    Elk's National Foundation Most Valuable Student

Amount:  $1,000-$12,500 per year
