1.       JUNIORS: The PSAT will be held on Wednesday October 16th; cost is $18.00 per student.  REGISTRATION STARTS TODAY AND WILL CLOSE ONCE ALL SPOTS ARE FILLED.  SPACE IS LIMITED AND IS ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST SIGN-UP BASIS. Students can pay $18 in the Finance Center (Before School, After school and at lunch).  Cash or Card only.  No checks.  Students may also pay online through the Ranger Web Store.  https://www.vusd.org/redwood  There is a small convenience fee.  The Fall PSAT is designed for 11th grade students only.  9th and 10th grade students will have the opportunity to take the PSAT in Spring 2020. There are a limited number of fee waivers available.  See Mr. Matta regarding fee waiver guidelines.

2.       DANCE FORCE BOOSTER MEETING, TODAY 6:00 p.m. in the library.

3.       There will be a BASEBALL INFORMATIONAL MEETING TODAY at 6 PM at the Varsity Baseball field.  This MEETING is for PARENTS OF STUDENTS planning on trying out for baseball in the spring and for those who will participate in fall ball.  FALL BALL will begin Tuesday September 17th at the varsity baseball field. Time 3:40. If you have any questions see Coach Andrews or Coach Blair.

4.       BOYS SOCCER MEETING TODAY at 2:30pm at the soccer equipment room.

5.       BOYS SOCCER practice TODAY for those interested in playing and not in a Fall Sport.  ALL levels are able to attend.  3:30 - 5:30 p.m. on the Track.  Next practice will be Wednesday September 18th same time at the Gym.

1.       ABLAZE CATHOLIC CLUB MEETING tomorrow Tuesday September 17th! Pick up your shirt, plan for Fatima and Homecoming. Bring your friends tomorrow during lunch, room 30.
PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1.       2019 HOMECOMING DRESS UP DAYS:  Monday September 23rd - Power Rangers (class colors Seniors: Red; Juniors: Yellow; Sophomore: Pink; Freshmen: Black; Staff: Green.  Tuesday: ICarly (vsco, e-boy, tik tok trends).  Wednesday: The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air (90's).  Thursday: Drake & Josh (duo day). Friday: Blues Clues (Ranger Pride, spirit day).

2.       SCICON TRAINING will be on Tuesday September 17th during 2nd period in the upstairs Library for those who want to be a Scicon Counselor.  Sign up in the Counseling Office.

3.       BOYS WRESTLING:  IMPORTANT INFORMATIONAL MEETING on Tuesday September 17th in the wrestling room during lunch.  We will go over: Schedules, practice times, spirit packs, and expectations.

4.       RED INK is MEETING at lunch in room 103 on Tuesday September 17th. If you want to work on the Homecoming float please attend.

5.       GIRLS BASKETBALL will have an open gym practice on Wednesday, September 18th from 5:30-7:30pm.

6.       HIP HOP CLUB MEETINGS September 18th and 25th at lunch in the dance room.  Preparing for Homecoming.

7.       The RHS TEENAGE REPUBLICAN CLUB is meeting Wednesday, September 18th at lunch in Room 103 to discuss our plans for the Homecoming parade and other activities for the year. Come see what we're all about!

8.       Do you have a furry friend at home that you adore? Do you dream of owning a pet of your own? Whether you are a proud pet owner or someone who would love to have a four legged companion someday, you can easily help shelter animals by participating in CSF'S DONATION DRIVE for the Valley Oak SPCA. The SPCA seeks donations of dog and cat toys, cans of Pedigree and Friskies food, small bags of dry Purina kitten chow, puppy potty pads, and other items; please bring donations to room 108 between SEPTEMBER 19 AND OCTOBER 11. Your donations will go directly to sweeties such as Carmen the cat and Toby the dog. P.S: Many of these items can be purchased at your local Dollar Tree for just a buck!

9.       CAL GRANT OP-OUT:  With the implementation of Assembly Bill 2160, California public high schools are required to submit a Cal Grant high school Grade Point Average (GPA) for all graduating seniors, unless the student or parent has opted out of the submission process.  If you do not want Redwood High School to report a GPA, please have your student pick up the opt-out form from their counselor or the Redwood Counseling Office.  Opt-out forms must be returned by September 23rd.

10.  ATTENTION SENIORS AND JUNIORS:  Elizabeth Tinoco-Rodríguez, FRESNO STATE AMBASSADOR plans to be on campus every Tuesday starting September 24th.  She will be in the RHS library from 9am-1pm.  She is available to answer any application, major and general questions regarding Fresno St.

11.   AP TESTING REGISTRATION WILL BEGIN TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1st.  AP Testing will take place May 4th - May 15th.  To register for an AP Exam, students must pay the full $94 fee in the Finance office or online through the Redwood webstore.  Registration forms are in the Counseling Office outside of Ms. Molina's office.  The deadline to register is Tuesday, November 5 at 3:30 p.m.  If you qualify for free or reduced lunch or meet Federal Income Guidelines, you may qualify for a fee waiver.  Please come see Ms. Molina to apply for the fee waiver.  If you have any questions regarding AP testing please see Ms. Molina.

12.   Redwood Students, do you need volunteer hours for your service club or college entrance requirements? Mineral King Elementary School's PTA is looking for students interested in volunteering for their annual carnival on October 4th from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. If you or your club is interested in volunteering please call Mary Garcia from Mineral King PTA at 559-799-9161.

13.   ATTENTION SENIORS, JUNIORS AND SOPHOMORES:  Just a reminder that if you accumulate 10 unexcused tardies and or 10 Unverified/Unexcused Absences then your off campus lunch privileges will be revoked for the remainder of the grading period. Please get to class and be on time. If you have absences for being sick, court, or family emergencies please have your parents call the attendance office. Freshman if you accumulate 10 unexcused tardies you will serve detention to make up missed time during lunch.

SCHOLARSHIPS:

2.    AES Engineer Scholarship
Criteria:  Future leaders in all areas attending a college or university, it is not required
to be an engineer to receive this scholarship

3.    Gates Scholarship:
Criteria:*A high school senior-From at least one of the following ethnicities: African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American*Pell-eligible-A US citizen, national, or permanent resident
*In good academic standing with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) *Additionally, a student must plan to enroll full-time, in a four-year degree program, at a US accredited, not-for-profit, private or public college or university.
Ideal Candidate  - An ideal candidate will have:
*An outstanding academic record in high school (in the top 10% of his/her graduating class)
*Demonstrated leadership ability (e.g., as shown through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities)

Amount: up to $15,000 grant

6.    Elk's National Foundation Most Valuable Student

Amount:  $1,000-$12,500 per year
