TODAY:

1.      CSF FALL MEMBERSHIP drive will be held the week of February 3rd through February 7th, 2020. Bring the following to room RH 108 during Lunch:  *completed application form (pick up early in room RH 108), *fall semester transcript provided to ALL students in their English classes by January 31, *a donation of one handback book for the Redwood Library, and *$5 fee to cover graduation supplies. Friday 2/07/20 is the deadline to apply. PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST A TRANSCRIPT FROM THE OFFICE OR COUNSELING DEPARTMENT. Freshmen are now eligible to apply for membership with their first semester grades. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Mrs. Cheatwood at gcheatwood at vusd.org<mailto:gcheatwood at vusd.org> or come to room 108.


SPORTS TODAY/EARLY RELEASES:

NEW ANNOUNCEMENT:

1.      IMPORTANT CSF NEWS: If you will be a junior or senior next year, are currently a 100% CSF member, have a 4.0 GPA, are active in community projects, attend meetings consistently, and would like to be a CSF officer for 2019-2020, please come by room 108 and pick up an officer application. These must be completed and turned in at a mandatory meeting at lunch on Thursday, February 20, 2020. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Cheatwood in room 108.

2.      VALENTINE’S GRAMS ARE BACK!!!! LINK CREW will be selling before school and during lunch from February 11th through February 13th by Ranger Hall. Each Valentine’s gram is $2 and it comes with a rose, candy, and a ranger wristband.  LET’S SPREAD THE LOVE.

3.      A COLLEGE REPRESENTATIVE from Azusa Pacific University will be on campus February 27th during 2nd period in the Library.  Sign-ups will be in the Counseling Office.


PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1.      💕SURPRISE YOUR FRIENDS and special someone with a Valentine Gram! AVID will be selling them during lunch in the Quad starting February 6 to February 13. We will have $.50 and $1.00 grams to accommodate all likes and budgets! Come check us out or talk to an AVID officer.  Thank you for your support!!❤

3.      ALL STUDENTS - Please return or renew all the library books that you checked out for independent reading last semester or before winter break. All books are in overdue and will be marked as lost on February 14th.

4.      FRESHMAN - If you took Health during the last semester, please return your textbook to the library.

5.      MANDATORY CSF MEETING FOR LIFETIME SENIORS: ALL CSF Lifetime seniors (as of 2/11/20) must attend a meeting in room 108 at lunch on THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2020. We will go over important details for graduation and for the senior luncheon that will take place on Tuesday, April 28th. If you are not sure of your current senior status, please contact Mrs. Cheatwood ASAP at gcheatwood at vusd.org<mailto:gcheatwood at vusd.org> or come by room RH 108.

6.      SCICON TRAINING:  For those students interested in being a Scicon Counselor, there will be training on February 20th during 2nd period in the Upstairs Library.  Sign-ups will be in the Counseling Office.

7.      A US NAVAL ACADEMY REPRESENTATIVE will be on campus February 26th during 5th period in the Upstairs Library.  Sig-up in the Counseling Office.

8.      WOW! IT’S BACK! Red Ink and Lit & Expression are delighted to once again bring you the Writing On The Walls contest. Writing, both prose and poetry and art entries will be accepted. We give awards in all three categories and publish the winners on posters that are hung around campus. If you’d like a chance to be published and share your work with the whole school, please enter today.  Rules are available on the door of room 103. All entries must be typed/photographed and turned in digitally to mlink at vusd.us<mailto:mlink at vusd.us>. Deadline to enter is February 28 at midnight. Questions? 9.      FOR THE LOVE OF ART! – Are you or do you know a high school student artist looking to make $ on their art?  Visalia Education Foundation (VEF) can help students sell their art…it’s easy and fun!  Check out VEF’s website for information on their upcoming art show and sale, For the Love of Art at http://www.visaliaedfoundation.org/. The deadline for submission is Thursday, February 27th, but it’s not too early to start thinking about what you’ll create!

10.  9TH AND 10TH GRADES ONLY: The PSAT 10 will be held in RHS Library on Wednesday March 11th 7:45am-12:15pm; cost is $18.00 per student.  REGISTRATION IS OPEN AND WILL CLOSE ONCE ALL SPOTS ARE FILLED.  SPACE IS LIMITED AND IS ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST SIGN-UP BASIS. Students can pay $18 in the Finance Center (Before School, After-school and at lunch).  Cash or Card only.  No checks.  Students may also pay online through the Ranger Web Store.  https://www.vusd.org/redwood  there is a small convenience fee. The PSAT 10 is designed for 9th & 10th grade students only.  Please pick up your student guide and practice in the RHS Finance Center once the PSAT 10 fee is paid.  Any questions please see Mr. Matta.

11.  ENJOY GAMING? Come put your skills to the test and take your team all the way to the state championship. This spring Redwood high school will have League of Legends, Rocket League, Overwatch, Fortnite, and a Smash Bros. esports teams. Contact Mr. Cazarez Room 45 with your interest in gaming for this spring season.



SENIORS:



1.      SENIORS - If you took Civics or Econ during the last semester, please return your textbook to the library.

2.      ATTENTION SENIORS! Are you struggling to find scholarships to apply for? Redwood XL has a binder with scholarships you may qualify for. SCHOLARSHIPS:

  1.  JUNIORS AND SENIORS: College Board has launched the College Board Opportunity Scholarship. Please visit https://opportunity.collegeboard.org/ for additional information. Scholarship deadlines vary.

2.      RUIZ 4 KIDS SCHOLARSHIPS

AMOUNT: Varies

Criteria: HS senior, minimum 3.0gpa for students attending a 4yr college, 2.5gpa for students attending a 2yr college or trade school, sealed school transcripts, essay (instructions on web), letter of recommendation, one-page resume.

3.      SONS OF ITALY 2019 NATIONAL LEADERSHIP GRANT COMPETITION
