**Back-to-School Night - Thursday, October 19th**

STUDENT INFORMATION


VTEC FFA- Drive through BBQ is Thursday, October 19th. Pick up is from 5pm to 7pm. Tickets are $12 for individual and $45 for family Pack (4 individual dinners). FFA members may sell 8 tickets to earn 10 FFA points. Check out tickets from Ms. Thompson. Families can purchase tickets from FFA Members or any of the AG teachers.  Pre-order is recommended as limited dinners will be sold at Back to School Night! Proceeds go back to the chapter to fund future field trips and leadership conferences.  The last day to purchase tickets will be October 11th.  Monies will be due to Ms. Thompson on October 11th.



PSAT October 11th- All sophomores and juniors will test.  Juniors are eligible to earn scholarship money!



Pancake Breakfast - Saturday, October 21st from 7am-10am in the Party Barn.  Students will be selling tickets beginning next week.  Price is $5 per person.



ASL Club - Join the ASL Club on Tuesdays at lunch if you are interested in learning American Sign Language or if you are enrolled in an ASL COS class.  We will be learning songs and conversations and you can get extra help for your ASL class.  See Grace Webb for more information.  Meeting room - TBA.

Congressman Nunes is hosting an Academy Night at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the CUSD Professional Development Building in Clovis.  This evening is for students (of all grade levels), along with their parents, to meet representatives from the academies, gather information and learn about academy life and the congressional nomination process.  Applications are being accepted for students seeking a Congressional Nomination to attend a United States Service Academy.  For graduating seniors, the Academy Nomination Application must be mailed or hand delivered to the Congressman's Visalia Office by Wednesday, November 15, 2017.  There are four U.S. Service Academies that require a congressional nomination: United States Air Force Academy<http://www.usafa.af.mil/>;  United States Merchant Marine Academy; United States Military Academy (West Point)<http://www.usma.edu/SitePages/Home.aspx>; United States Naval Academy<http://www.usna.edu/homepage.php>. The International Agri-Center is hosting its annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 14th from 3 p.m.-9 p.m. We invite the community to join us for this fun, family friendly event. Carnival games, food, pumpkin patch, and more including games inside the AgVentures! Learning Center. As we prepare the AgVentures! Learning Center for the Harvest Festival we will be providing games and activities as well as coloring and a craft area for the little children inside the learning center, this year we are asking high school students to join us as a volunteer to help inside AgVentures!  We will be doing two shifts from 3:00-6:00 p.m. and 6:00-9:00 p.m. asking all volunteers to arrive 15 minutes before your shift to check in with me inside the AgVentures! Learning Center.

Fresno State will be offering three Saturday workshops on campus to assist students with the new fall 2018 application. Congressman Nunes is hosting an Academy Night at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the CUSD Professional Development Building in Clovis.  This evening is for students (of all grade levels), along with their parents, to meet representatives from the academies, gather information and learn about academy life and the congressional nomination process.  Applications are being accepted for students seeking a Congressional Nomination to attend a United States Service Academy.  For graduating seniors, the Academy Nomination Application must be mailed or hand delivered to the Congressman's Visalia Office by Wednesday, November 15, 2017. The International Agri-Center is hosting its annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 14th from 3 p.m.-9 p.m. We invite the community to join us for this fun, family friendly event. Carnival games, food, pumpkin patch, and more including games inside the AgVentures! Learning Center. As we prepare the AgVentures! Learning Center for the Harvest Festival we will be providing games and activities as well as coloring and a craft area for the little children inside the learning center, this year we are asking high school students to join us as a volunteer to help inside AgVentures!  We will be doing two shifts from 3:00-6:00 p.m. and 6:00-9:00 p.m. asking all volunteers to arrive 15 minutes before your shift to check in with me inside the AgVentures! Learning Center.

STUDENT INFORMATION

Harvest Dance - Saturday, October 14th, 8pm-11pm, El Diamante High School Gym.  $15 w/ASB; $25 w/o ASB; $35 at the door. Ticket prices are per person. Tickets go on sale the week of October 9th. You will need a signed permission slip prior to purchasing a ticket.  Tickets may be purchased in the Student Store from 1:30pm-4:30pm.

Mr. Morgan will be taking 10 students to see TCOE's production of "ELF" on Friday, November 17th.  If you are interested, email Mr. Morgan at his gmail account.

Student Store now open Monday-Friday, 1:30pm-4:30pm.
VTEC FFA- Drive through BBQ is Thursday, October 19th. Pick up is from 5pm to 7pm. Tickets are $12 for individual and $45 for family Pack (4 individual dinners). FFA members may sell 8 tickets to earn 10 FFA points. Check out tickets from Ms. Thompson. Families can purchase tickets from FFA Members or any of the AG teachers.  Pre-order is recommended as limited dinners will be sold at Back to School Night! Proceeds go back to the chapter to fund future field trips and leadership conferences.  The last day to purchase tickets will be October 11th.  Monies will be due to Ms. Thompson on October 11th.



PSAT October 11th- All sophomores and juniors will test.  Juniors are eligible to earn scholarship money!

VTEC FFA- Drive through BBQ is Thursday, October 19th. Pick up is from 5pm to 7pm. Tickets are $12 for individual and $45 for family Pack (4 individual dinners). FFA members may sell 8 tickets to earn 10 FFA points. Check out tickets from Ms. Thompson. Families can purchase tickets from FFA Members or any of the AG teachers.  Pre-order is recommended as limited dinners will be sold at Back to School Night! Proceeds go back to the chapter to fund future field trips and leadership conferences.  The last day to purchase tickets will be October 11th.  Monies will be due to Ms. Thompson on October 11th.



PSAT October 11th- All sophomores and juniors will test.  Juniors are eligible to earn scholarship money!

Applications are being accepted for students seeking a Congressional Nomination to attend a United States Service Academy. Carnival games, food, pumpkin patch, and more including games inside the AgVentures! Learning Center. As we prepare the AgVentures! Learning Center for the Harvest Festival we will be providing games and activities as well as coloring and a craft area for the little children inside the learning center, this year we are asking high school students to join us as a volunteer to help inside AgVentures!  We will be doing two shifts from 3:00-6:00 p.m. and 6:00-9:00 p.m. asking all volunteers to arrive 15 minutes before your shift to check in with me inside the AgVentures! Learning Center.

ASL Club - Join the ASL Club on Tuesdays at lunch if you are interested in learning American Sign Language or if you are enrolled in an ASL COS class.  We will be learning songs and conversations and you can get extra help for your ASL class.  See Grace Webb for more information.  Meeting room - TBA.

VTEC Chess Club will meet Monday and Wednesday during lunch in the Party Barn.  You can sign up in the Breezeway and/or see Joseph Miller.

Congressman Nunes is hosting an Academy Night at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the CUSD Professional Development Building in Clovis.  This evening is for students (of all grade levels), along with their parents, to meet representatives from the academies, gather information and learn about academy life and the congressional nomination process.  Applications are being accepted for students seeking a Congressional Nomination to attend a United States Service Academy.  For graduating seniors, the Academy Nomination Application must be mailed or hand delivered to the Congressman's Visalia Office by Wednesday, November 15, 2017.  There are four U.S. Service Academies that require a congressional nomination: United States Air Force Academy<http://www.usafa.af.mil/>;  United States Merchant Marine Academy; United States Military Academy (West Point)<http://www.usma.edu/SitePages/Home.aspx>; United States Naval Academy<http://www.usna.edu/homepage.php>. Yearbooks for Sale - Yearbook Pricing Deadlines:  $45 until January 31st; $50 until May 21st and $55 for the remaining school year.  There will only be a hardcopy option available this year.  See Mrs. Fraley in Room 6, or any yearbook staff member with questions.

Computers and Wifi will be available but students are encouraged to bring their own laptop or tablet.

*         Our priority registration date is Tuesday, November 28th at 8am.

o   If you have not taken a class within a year, you will need to re-apply on cccapply.  COS will assist us with this process during AVID periods.

o   Students and guardians must complete a High School Student Permission Form and return it to their AVID teacher by Thursday, October 26th.

o   Students and guardians must complete a COS Request Form and return it to their AVID teacher by Thursday, November 9th.

o   Begin searching classes on cos.edu.  ASAP!!!

o   Follow the IGETC and take the next Math and English class in your sequence for which you have placed:

STUDENT INFORMATION



Pancake Breakfast - Saturday, October 21st from 7am-10am in the Party Barn.  Price is $5 per person.

Mr. Morgan will be taking 10 students to see TCOE's production of "ELF" on Friday, November 17th.  If you are interested, email Mr. Morgan at his gmail account.

Student Store now open Monday-Friday, 1:30pm-4:30pm.

ASL Club - Join the ASL Club on Tuesdays at lunch if you are interested in learning American Sign Language or if you are enrolled in an ASL COS class.  We will be learning songs and conversations and you can get extra help for your ASL class.  See Grace Webb for more information.  Meetings will be held in Room 11.

VTEC Chess Club will meet Monday and Wednesday during lunch in the Party Barn.  You can sign up in the Breezeway and/or see Joseph Miller.


Yearbooks for Sale - Yearbook Pricing Deadlines:  $45 until January 31st; $50 until May 21st and $55 for the remaining school year.  There will only be a hardcopy option available this year.  See Mrs. Fraley in Room 6, or any yearbook staff member with questions.

As an early college, VTEC's goal is to have all students take at least one COS class per semester.  Some sophomores, along with many juniors and seniors have been able to do more toward earning

*         Our priority registration date is Tuesday, November 28th at 8am.

o   If you have not taken a class within a year, you will need to re-apply on cccapply.  COS will assist us with this process during AVID periods.

o   Students and guardians must complete a High School Student Permission Form and return it to their AVID teacher by Thursday, October 26th.

o   Students and guardians must complete a COS Request Form and return it to their AVID teacher by Thursday, November 9th.

o   Begin searching classes on cos.edu.  ASAP!!!

o   Follow the IGETC and take the next Math and English class in your sequence for which you have placed:

?  English 251, then transferable classes English 001, 002, and/or Comm. per your major.

?  English 251 will be offered after school at VTEC.  Please sign the interest form in the office if you placed in Eng. 251

STUDENT INFORMATION

Mrs. Potter will be holding a Citrus Judging interest meeting on Thursday, October 26th in Room 14 at the beginning of lunch.  Any student who is interested should attend to get more information.

Mr. Morgan will be taking 10 students to see TCOE's production of "ELF" on Friday, November 17th.  If you are interested, email Mr. Morgan at his gmail account.

ASL Club - Join the ASL Club on Tuesdays at lunch if you are interested in learning American Sign Language or if you are enrolled in an ASL COS class.  We will be learning songs and conversations and you can get extra help for your ASL class.  See Grace Webb for more information.  Meetings will be held in Room 11.

VTEC Chess Club will meet Monday and Wednesday during lunch in the Party Barn.  See Joseph Miller if you have any questions.


Yearbooks for Sale - Yearbook Pricing Deadlines:  $45 until January 31st; $50 until May 21st and $55 for the remaining school year.  There will only be a hardcopy option available this year.  See Mrs. Fraley in Room 6, or any yearbook staff member with questions.

Halloween Town ASB Movie Night - Tonight from 7pm-9pm in the Arbor.  Bring your own chair.  This event is open to VTEC students only and there is NO charge.  No food or beverage will be served.

If you need to take/re-take the COS Math and/or English placement test, please sign up in your AVID classes by Friday.

Sign up if you need a new COS ID card.  You must be currently enrolled in a COS class in order to get a card.  You must take your VTEC student id with you, and will be charged $5 for a replacement card.

COS INFORMATION

COS:
As an early college, VTEC's goal is to have all students take at least one COS class per semester.  Some sophomores, along with many juniors and seniors have been able to do more toward earning

*         Our priority registration date is Tuesday, November 28th at 8am.

o   If you have not taken a class within a year, you will need to re-apply on cccapply.  COS will assist us with this process during AVID periods.

o   Students and guardians must complete a COS Request Form and return it to their AVID teacher by Thursday, November 9th.

o   Begin searching classes on cos.edu.  ASAP!!!

o   Follow the IGETC and take the next Math and English class in your sequence for which you have placed:

?  English 251, then transferable classes English 001, 002, and/or Comm. per your major.

?  English 251 will be offered after school at VTEC.  Please sign the interest form in the office if you placed in Eng. 251

?  Math 200, 230, then transferable classes Math 154, 21, or 10 per your major.

*         Mrs. Williams will visit AVID classes to review the information and provide forms.

COS English 251 will be offered to VTEC students after school at VTEC with Mr. Morgan.  Sign up with Mrs. Williams.

Sign up if you need a new COS ID card.  You must be currently enrolled in a COS class in order to get a card.  You must take your VTEC student ID with you, and will be charged $5 for a replacement card.



ASL Club - Join the ASL Club on Tuesdays at lunch in Room11.  See Grace Webb if you have any questions.

VTEC Chess Club will meet Monday and Wednesday during lunch in the Party Barn.  See Joseph Miller if you have any questions.


Yearbooks for Sale - Yearbook Pricing Deadlines:  $45 until January 31st; $50 until May 21st and $55 for the remaining school year.  There will only be a hardcopy option available this year.  See Mrs. Fraley in Room 6, or any yearbook staff member with questions.

**Students were issued an ID card on picture day.  If you misplace your ID card - you may purchase another one for $5 in the office**

Fresno State will be offering three Saturday workshops on campus to assist students with the new fall 2018 application. Getting admitted to the campus starts with an accurate and complete application. We look forward to seeing your students at the workshops. Computers and Wifi will be available but students are encouraged to bring their own laptop or tablet.

Seniors and parents who missed the COS Financial Aid workshop last week, and those needing further assistance may come to a follow-up workshop at VTEC on Thursday, November 2nd from 8:15-10am in Room 11.



Seniors applying to a CSU are invited to attend a CSU Application Workshop at VTEC on Wednesday, November 8th from 9-10:30am in Room 4.  This is your chance to get assistance with your application, ask questions, and meet a CSUF representative from Fresno State!

Jostens will be on campus Tuesday, November 7th during AVID in Room 3 to take Cap and Gown orders.  Jostens will return on Wednesday, November 15th during AVID in Room 3 to take payment for the Cap and Gown orders.

Seniors have until January 31st to submit their senior portraits for the yearbook.  You may submit your photos to Mrs. Fraley in Room 6. If you do not submit a senior portrait, your school photo will be used.

There are three workshops being held in collaboration with Student Success Coordinators on all three COS campuses. These workshops are open to everyone, including future and current COS students, as well as the community. ALL VTEC students are required to return a completed COS High School Permission form to their AVID teachers by Tuesday, October 31st



Students should be searching spring courses at cos.edu, learning of pre-requisites, and completing the COS Request form.  The form requires a parent signature, AVID Teacher signature, and VTEC Administrator signature.  Students may refer to the IGETC, A-G requirements and their dream college recommendations in determining courses, or they may wish to explore an elective course.



*Families, please read the agreements on the forms provided and insure that your student is ready for the content and rigor of college courses.  Please support them through their classes, arrange transportation, and have them use the services at COS as needed.  Student grades follow them and will affect future financial aid.



Students who plan to register for Spring COS classes, but did not attend COS this fall, must complete a new online application at cccapply.  A COS representative will be at VTEC the following days and times to assist you with this process in AVID classes:



Seniors:  Friday, November 3rd from 8:35am- 9:30am



Sophomores:  Monday, November 13th from 2:30pm-3:15pm



Juniors: Tuesday, November 14th from 2:30pm-3:15pm



COS Placement Test:  We are tentatively scheduled to administer the test on November 15th or November 16th from 8-11:30am.  Students will need to make up all missed work.
