Good morning Explorers, let's remember to have La Joya PRIDE in everything we do!

STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

*  If you are interested in the school spelling bee and need a list of the words, see your ELA teacher or Mrs. Allen in room 503.  The school spelling bee is Thursday, January 18th during both lunches in LM3.
* AVID is selling pizza today, $2 a slice and $1 for a water.
* Reminder students - you are allowed to wear knit hats (sometimes called "beanies") during the months of December through March.  However, they should be of a solid color with no logo or visible lettering.  All approved headgear must not cover your face and should be worn as intended to provide protection outdoors only.  They may not be worn indoors (classrooms, cafeteria, etc.)  Please see any administrator if you have any questions.
* This year La Joya is joining El Diamanté to perform their winter musical Cinderella the first week we return from Winter Break. The show dates are January 11, 12, & 13 at 7pm and January 13 also at 2pm. Ticket prices are $10 for students and $12 for general admission. See Mr. Morris in room 301 if you have questions or need to get tickets.

*  There will be no school on Monday January 15th, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

SPORTS NEWS

The Varsity Girls Soccer team lost to Valley Oak 1-3. Bella Flores scored a goal. Goal Keeper Payton Diaz recorded 1 save & Goal Keeper Mya Rodriguez recorded 6 saves.

The Varsity Boys Soccer team lost in a shootout 4-3 to Valley Oak.  Florentino Ruiz scored the only goal in regulation.

The JV Girls team tied Valley Oak 1-1, with Saleen Mariscal scoring the goal with an assist from Madison Garcia.

The La Joya Varsity Basketball Team defeated Valley Oak, 45 - 30, on Wednesday. Offensive standouts were Michael Ramirez (9 points); Nick Nelson (8); Austin Watson and Tanner Anderson (7); Chase Farmer (6); Darren Fisher (3); and Henry Vidak and Joshua Cano (2); Kaleb Castanon (1).

The La Joya Varsity Basketball Team defeated Woodrow Wilson, 42 - 39, on Tuesday. Offensive standouts were Michael Ramirez (12 points); Nick Nelson (9); Austin Watson (10); Chase Farmer (6); Darren Fisher (3); and Issac DeLeon (2).

On Wednesday the JV Boys basketball team defeated Valley Oak, 33-14. Leading the Explorers on offense were Elijah Martinez and Cooper Schimpf (8 points each), Rylan Montgomery (6), Noah Garcia (5), and Elijah Tamayo, John Chavez, and Alex Hernandez (all with 2). Good win Explorers.



Saturday 1/13:

7th and 8th grade Girls Basketball is at the Dinuba Tournament, game times TBD.
