Good morning Explorers, let's remember to have La Joya PRIDE in everything we do!
STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS
*Open House
Open House will be on Thursday, April 4th, from 6 - 7:30 pm. Students and parents are welcome to visit teachers in their classrooms - there is no set bell schedule. We will also have some wonderful performances from our Orchestra, Choir, and Band groups. Tacos Galacticos will also be selling tacos, churros, and drinks, courtesy of our La Joya PTSA, from 5 - 7:30 pm. We hope to see you all there!
* ATTENTION 7TH GRADERS! You can enroll for the 2020 DC/Jamestown/Williamsburg trip! There will be an informational meeting in Room 407 at 5:30 PM tonight! Bring your parents to gather information about this incredible opportunity!
*AVID is selling pizza today, $2 a slice and $1 for a water.
*Dress Code Reminder
As the weather begins to warm, here is a reminder about the Dress Code. The Visalia Unified School District Student Conduct Code for grades 7-12 reads as follows: Clothes shall be worn as intended and be sufficient to conceal undergarments which shall be worn and covered at all times. See-through or fish-net fabrics, halter tops, tube tops, spaghetti straps, off-the shoulder and low-cut tops are not acceptable. Other types of dress that expose bare midriffs or cleavage are prohibited. Basketball jersey style tank tops with scooped front, back and armholes are only allowed if worn with a T-shirt with sleeves. Shirts with cut-off sleeves are not allowed. Hoodies, beanies, or any head gear may not be worn within the classroom. Cell phones must be turned off and out of sight.
*Cheer Packets
Cheer Packets are now available at EDHS student services offices, and the La Joya front office. Packets are due today, March 29th at place of pick up. You must complete a packet in order to try out for the EDHS 2019 - 2020 cheer squads. No late packets will be accepted.
Sports ANNOUNCEMENTS
The JV boys Baseball team is off to a hot start with a record of 5-1. The bats have been live with players up and down the line up crushing the ball. Offensive standouts have been, Caleb Silva, Keynen Gomez, and Noah Matta. Pitching has been lights out for the team. Pitching standouts have been Kevin Baldwin with one win, Noah Matta with two wins, and Keynen Gomez with two wins. The defense has been solid behind the pitching. Defensive standouts have been Caleb Silva, making diving plays and throwing out runners at home from center field, and Sebastian Aiello has been great calling the game and ball blocking behind the plate.
Congratulations to the La Joya Track team who competed on Tuesday, at El Diamante against Divisadero, Ridgeview, Washington and Green Acres athletes. Some of our outstanding finishers from our home track meet for 7th grade include. Abraham Maciel took first place in the 100 m run with a time of 11.07 seconds, first in the 200 m and first in the high jump. Isabella Struhaan took 2nd in the 100 m. Allison Alvarez took 2nd in the 400 m run with a time of 1 minute 13 seconds. David Medina took 2nd in the 400 m run. Emmanuel Santa Cruz took first in the 800m with a time of 2:27.83 and first in the Mile run with a time of 5:18.67. Carmen Gaebe took 3rd place in the 800 m and Rylee Mc Daniels took 4th.
Outstanding 8th grade finishers were, Albert Cano took 1st in the 400 m run. Keyajay Daniels took 1st place in the 100 m in 11.77 seconds .Jazper Malone took 1st in the 200 m with 24.16 seconds. Josh Onstott ran a personal best in the mile with a time of 5:40.08. Hailey Martinez took 1st in the 800 m with a time of 2:50.67. Andres Padilla took 1st place in discus with a throw of 135 feet 7 inches. Damien Jiminez took 4th in shot put.
