Good morning Explorers, let's remember to have La Joya PRIDE in everything we do!


STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS


*Be an honor graduate! CJSF Sign-ups have begun.  Bring your semester report card and $1 due to Ms. Sayre in room 101 or Mrs. Allen in room 503 to see if you qualify to be a member of this prestigious society.  Sign-ups end today, February 7th,  so don't delay!!

* There will be no school on Monday, Feb. 10th, it is a Staff Development Day.

* Cell Phones:  When you come onto campus in the mornings, cell phones must be turned off and placed in your backpack/bag for the entire day. This includes passing periods, break, and lunch.
* Band is selling pizza today, $2 a slice and $1 for a water.
* Looking for something to do this Saturday. Come to Saturday Academy.  You can get work done with Ms. Moore, watch movies with Ms. Austerman, or audition for the play with Mr. Morris.   On top of that, attending helps you make up an unexcused absence. Sign up through the La Joya website, and encourage a friend to sign up too.

*Make Valentine's Day a little sweeter for your friends this year with a Valentine's Day Candy Gram!  AVID will be selling candy grams at break and lunch for $1 each or 3 for $2.  Sales end Wednesday and will be delivered on Valentine's Day!



Sports ANNOUNCEMENTS

Congratulations to the Varsity girls soccer team who beat Woodrow Wilson 7-0. Alyviah Sanchez scored 2 goals. Madeline Alvarez, Jorja Moreno, Morgan Phillipe, Keyana Speight and Taylor Vandergriff each had one goal. Jadyn Rivas had two assists. Morgan Phillipe, Jordyn Soto and Bella Villarreal each had one assist. Carmen Gaebe, Allison and Madeline Alvarez, Jorja Moreno and Kaitlyn Padilla did a great job on defense. Alisha Vasquez had two saves in goal. Come out and watch their home game Tuesday against Valley Oak.


On Wednesday the JV boys basketball team defeated Woodrow Wilson, 39-31. Leading the Explorers were Ezra Ayers (14 points), Owen Reimer (7), Jacob Avila (6), Joseph Pena and Matthew Perez (4), Logan Tavarez and Nathan Gurrola (2). Great gritty win boys!

On Monday the Varsity Girls Basketball team had a well fought game but took a loss to Green Acres.  The team is battling both sickness and injury and lost by three points, by a score of 28-31.  Olivia Torres and Reyna Soto each had nine points.  Kalisa Holmes was coming back from the flue and scored 8.  Jenevee Campos came off the bench, showed great hustle and scored 4.  Defensive players of the game were Anabelle Navarro and Katelyn Ramos.
On Wednesday the Girls Varsity Basketball team had defeated Woodrow Wilson by a score of 42-16.  The team started off slow on offense, but once they figured it out, they poured on the scoring.  Defense was great all game long.  Anabelle Navarro played awesome at point guard, making the right plays with the basketball.  She also played amazing defense causing many turnovers.  Kaitlyn Ramos fought off her sickness and gave an amazing effort all game.  On offense Olivia Torres took over the game and scored 15pts.  Olivia Torres had 6 assists to Kalisa Holmes who finished with 18pts.  Reyna Soto played with a lot of intensity and finished with 6pts.
The Girls Varsity Basketball Team finished league play in first place with a record of 10-1 and an overall record of 12-2.  Cheer on our Girls Varsity Basketball Players as they go into playoffs next Thursday at Woodrow Wilson.
