STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

*Breakfast is being served inside the cafeteria before school and at break.
*The selling of outside food, snacks, or drinks is not permitted/allowed on campus.
*Our next Saturday Academy is January 25th. Join Ms. Moore to get caught up on your classwork or play some games with Ms. Mederos. On top of that, attending helps you make up an unexcused absence. *There will be no school on Monday, January 20th, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
*Band is selling pizza today, $2 a slice and $1 for a water.
*When bringing money to make purchases on campus, please do not bring anything larger than a $10 bill.
Sports ANNOUNCEMENTS
Congratulations to the Varsity Girls Soccer team who beat Woodrow Wilson on Tuesday 16-0. Alisha Vasquez and Morgan Phillipe kept the other team from scoring making 3 saves each in goal. Alison Alvarez, Madeline Alvarez and Isabella Stuhaan each had one goal. Jocelyn Housey, Morgan Phillipe, Alyviah Sanchez, Keyana Speight and Bella Villarreal each had 3 goals and Taylor Vandergriff had 3.
On Tuesday the JV Boys Basketball team defeated Woodrow Wilson, 36-32. Leading the Explorers were Ezra Ayers with 18 points, Matthew Perez (10), Logan Tavarez (6), and Owen Reimer (2). Great gritty play and defense from Ayers, Perez, Tavarez, Reimer, Cash Marquez, and Joseph Pena.
Congratulations to the Varsity girls soccer team who beat Valley Oak 2-1 on Wednesday. The girls played a tough physical match and had shooting opportunities all game. Allison Alvarez and Keyana Speight each found the net for La Joya. Morgan Philippe had an assist. Alisha Vasquez had 6 saves in the goal. Carmen Gaebe, Allison Alvarez, Michaela Castro and Jorja Moreno played a great game of defense. These girls just finished up the first round of league play undefeated, great job ladies!
The Girls Varsity Basketball Team came out on fire this week with two monster back to back wins. On Tuesday the lady Explorers played with great defensive intensity and put the pressure on Woodrow Wilson shutting down their offense. The offensive players of the game were Reyna Soto with 16 pts, Olivia Torres with 11pts, Kalisa Holmes with 8pts. Anabelle Navarro and Nevaeh Creason each had two points. Defensive players of the game were Anabel Navarro, Reyna Soto and Nevaeh Creason. La Joya won buy a score of (39 to 6).
Wednesday the Lady Explorers throttled Valley Oak. La Joya played relentless defense forcing many turnovers and creating a quick early lead. The team played an all around solid game, expanding the score (52 to 8). Offensive standouts were Reyna Soto with 18, Anabelle Navarro with 11, Olivia Torres with 9, Naveah Creason with 6, and Kalisa Holmes finished with 4pts. Each player on the team played solid defense, stealing the ball and blocking shots! Great winds team!
Friday 1/17
8th grade boys host the Al Wiley Basketball Classic. Tournament games begin at 3:30pm. La Joya will be playing at 6:30pm vs. Lincoln Middle School.
No soccer/wrestling practice.
Saturday 1/18
Al Wiley Classic Tournaments continues play at El Diamante High School games will begin at 8:00am. Games will be continuous throughout the day, with the championship game taking place at 3:00pm.
The 7th grade girls basketball team will be playing in a tournament at Redwood High School. There first game will be at 9:00am vs. Washington.
Our wrestling team will also be participating in a tournament. The tournament will be taking place at Divisadero.
parent ANNOUNCEMENTS
The next PTSA meeting will be held on Monday, January 27th at 5:30pm in the Library.
